Thorn in Paw

[Jasperpaw]

Jasperkit nodded. "Okay. I'll remember to work on that. Do you have any tips on how to attack and make it look like its not where its going to go?" Jasperkit asked softly, trying to think about it in his head. "I thought moving from side to side might help..." He meowed thoughtfully. "And I need to dodge." He said, ears turning red, he remembered several dazes. Crouching down and wrapping hsi tail around his paws, relaxing, he thought. "But Clans really do fight over prey, and is it ever best to give the other Clan some prey instead of fight. Like if they are starving a lot and you have a lot of prey?" He asked softly, thinking about the background stories.

The spotted apprentice padded in and up to the cats. "Most cats will say no to that, but I think we should help others. My sister used to help when she was younger," the cat said as she walked to her sister and sat next to her. "What I do to trick others is dash straight at them and wait until your real close, then dance to the side and attack. They never expect it."

As the spotted apprentice appeared, Jasperkit's tail twitched, he recognised her, she had been apprenticed at the same time as his friend, Goldenpaw. Listening to her words, Jasperkit smiled. "If I were in the same situation I would want someone to help me out. I think that the Clans should work together sometimes. But knowing when to fight is important." The kit meowed after a little bit of thought. "I'm Jasperkit in case you don't recognise me. I remember you from the cermoney, you're Spottedpaw, right?" He said, softly, licking his paw and trying to wash his face, but failing as he always did. "Right, dash and then to the side. And if you're scary you might be able to scare them with the dash." The kit grinned.

"You will be Jasperpaw soon! That should turn out fun for you! Yes I'm Spottedpaw," she mewed as she looked at him with soft eyes. "You are right. We should, but that is the leaders choice. We have no control unless we break rules."

Jasperkit nodded, and smiled. "Maybe we could train together. Maybe if I come up with some interesting methods we can share them." He meowed happily, enjoying that idea. "I wonder what its like outside of camp. I've never been there before." He meowed, his voice full of wonder. How big was the territory that they owned? How much prey was inside it? Jasperkit had never seen a living prey animal, but he had always hoped to see a slightly alive one when going near the fresh kill pile. "Well, I'm not going to break any rules and I trust Venomstar to make the best decisions."

"Maybe we will. Who knows. Its huge out there. lots of prey and open space to run. Its tons of fun, yet, scary at first," she says with a purr as she looks at the young tom.

Jasperkit thought about it. He knew how small he was compared to the rest of the Clan, so far just another mouth to feed and tiny in comparison to the older cats, such as the warriors. "Yeah... but I'm sure its something that we can come to grips with. I want to be the best warrior ever and help support the Clan." He grinned. "I'm going to have to learn how to hunt as well. I want to help improve the prey pile." He said, smiling. There was so much to do. "Is it very busy as an apprentice?" He asked, thinking about all the jobs. Then he was wondered how hard it had to be for medicine cats. As the time got closer it did seem harder.

"You change nests, hunt, train, and do what ever your mentor tells you," she replies with a purr. She looks at the tom and then at the medicine cat. She knew how tough Silentstep's training could be.

Thinking, Jasperkit nodded. It sounded reasonable and he hoped that he would be able to keep in his mentor's good side. "Sounds like fun. I've never changed a nest, but you need to keep thorns out of them, thorns hurt." Jasperkit said remembering the sore thorn that had been in his paws. "I have no idea what's needed for hunting, though." He meowed softly.

"You will learn Jasperkit! I promise that much!"

Smiling, Jasperkit dipped his head in thanks. "Thank you, Spottedpaw." He meowed, happily. Thinking for a second, Jasperkit guessed that it was easier with the ability to work with others. As a kit he had nothing to do and not much encouragement or anything to pace himself with. And being an apprentice would allow him to spend more time with Goldenpaw. For the first time, Jasperkit wondered what his warrior name would be.

The she-cat got up after a moment and padded from the den.
