(I think Red and Wild need to have another one of their 'Friendly chats'. Private. Join and we beat with with sticks and rocks eue) Redstorm slowly squeezed into Wildwind's den. For a moment he simply looked at the den. It had never been full, not once. In fact it hadn't even gotten its first elder until he was around warrior age. It was his great-grandmother, Wildwind. A blind she-cat that could kill a cat with her words. He had never gotten along with Wildwind. The problems started when he accused her of being too old to replace the old deputy, Birchtail. Now Wildwind wanted him dead because he had four kits with her half-sister, Ivycloud.
But he wasn't here to argue with the elderly she-cat. He was here for advice. Every moon he got closer to retiring. He knew he still had a moon or two left in him, but he was at a point in life where he really just wanted to give up and move into the Elders' den. He wanted to know what he should do, what signs to look out for so he knew when to retire. He obviously couldn't just retire because he wanted to. He was still fit to fight, hunt, and patrol and do his warrior duties. But there were also enough warriors, apprentices and kits to do all of that. In fact, he hadn't hunted in several sunrises. He mainly just sat around camp, watching the newer generation buzz about.
Finally he sat down next to Wildwind's nest and coughed, trying to get her attention. He just had to hope she wouldn't try to rip his pelt off.

I was snoozing away in my den, dreaming, dreaming of who knows what. I shivered in my sleep as the sharp winter winds blew through the open den entrance. Someone really needed to fix that. No wonder I get sick every year. The sudden bitterness of the cold woke me, but I didn't move from my bundle in the nest. My nose lifted slightly, and I caught a familiar scent. I knew it instantly. How could I not? What's he here for? Coming to kill me off while he has the chance, eh? Thinks I'm a helpless, frail elder in the winter, does he? Well I'll prove him-
Cough
That set me off. I flung up from my piles of moss and feathers, flinging it's contents in every direction. That is, the contents that weren't already stuck in my fur. What moron comes into an elder's den when they're coughing? Does he want me to get blackcough once again? Well, I knew the answer to that. Of course he does.
"I swear if you're sick and you get me sick you won't live to see the next day." I hissed, pressing back against the cold, stone walls of the elder's den.
"What do you want?"

Redstorm blinked, not at all surprised by Wildwind's sudden burst of anger and energy. "I'm here for some advice. Calm down." He said smoothly, sitting down. He looked at Wildwind's now scattered nest. "I'll have an apprentice bring you fresh, dry moss. And I'll fix up that entrance hole myself." He said, pointing his tail toward the entrance. "And don't worry, I'm as healthy as could be. The cough was just to get your attention. And it worked rather well." He said, his voice filled with humor. He sometimes wondered if Wildwind got lonely. She generally spent her time alone in the den. Her only visitors seemed to be story beggars or moss-bringers.

Advice. Pft. Advice on what? Like I'd help with that! You make my life miserable and you expect me to help you? Okay, hello? Are you all there? What moron thinks I'll help them after all that?
I kept quiet, and accepted the calmness. My eyes where still burning with hatred. I didn't put forth any effort to hide it. I didn't care that he knew how much I hated him. I made that clear enough.
"I can do things on my own, mind you. I'm not helpless, Redstorm, unlike you."
I knew I was acting inappropriately for this situation. He was indeed being kind, but I could never forgive such a... such a... let's just say a word no cat in this forest ever wants to be called. I kept back the comment I wanted to make about if he fixed my den he'd probably set it to collide on me as I walked out and crush my every bone.
"Still, think of the germs. I wouldn't be surprised if you just came here to get me sick, so mind you, I'm going to keep my distance." I said, inching away.

Redstorm ignored the fiery hatred radiating off of Wildwind, and simply kept calm. He knew Wildwind would probably never forgive him for the thing, but that didn't mean he would hate her back. "I know very well you aren't helpless. But our apprentices are lazy and could do with some moss collecting." He pointed out. It was true, the apprentices only ever trained and chattered like a bunch of squirrels. It was time they learned something besides battle and hunting skills.
He shrugged as the tabby backed away. "Whatever makes you happy."

I was growing inpacient. One more second with him in my den was going to drive me insane. I resisted the urge to attack him. He was my clan mate... and grandson... and brother-in-law... no matter if I liked it or not. Which, if you haven't found out already, I do not like.
"Could you hurry up and get to your point, or else I'd prefer you leave" The bitterness on my last word was loud and clear. I didn't want such a moron in my presence.

Redstorm was also growing a little impatient. He was trying his best not to let his neck fur fluff up, or his true anger show. "Yes, yes of course." He said, half to himself. "How did you know it was time to retire?" He asked, looking into her eyes. "You won't like this, but I think my time as a warrior is coming to an end." It took all her could not to grin at the thoughts of her reaction. Wildwind already hated him in her den for this conversation. Living in it would probably make her heart stop.

My heart skipped a beat and I tried my best to comprehend what Redstorm had just said. The words didn't seem to want to fit properly together. Time. Retire. Redstorm. Retire. Warrior days coming to an end. RETIRE. I'm so screwed.
It this was anyone else besides Redstorm I'd be shocked that my great grandson was too and elder, but this was Redstorm. I had to stop myself from slamming my head hard against the stone walls.
No no no no no no no no NO! Please be joking! This can't be true!
"Oh, but Redstorm, you're still so... younge....and.... fresh. You really don't want to waste your days away stuff up in an elders den like me, do you? With... all those... kiddos running around asking for stories... and... sharing a den with lil' ol' me? Doesn't that sound... unpleasant at all? I'm sure a few more years as a warrior will be fine... You can stay a warrior a while longer... heh..."
Or, I'd prefer until I'm dead.
I sucked at convincing, that's for sure.

It took every fiber of his being not to start laughing his tail off. It was quite obviously Wildwind was trying to do everything in her power to make him stay a warrior for a long, long time. He sighed and shook his head. "No. I get tired much faster now, and every so often my joints will start to ache. I was thinking of retiring next moon, or maybe in two moons. The worst of Leaf-bare will be over by then and the clan won't need me." He said flatly. "Besides, telling the kits stories and having the apprentices do as I say sounds rather nice, honestly. And being able to sleep as long as I want sounds very nice as well. Sharing a den with you probably wouldn't be as bad as sharing it with the newer warriors, as well.

Crap...
Why me?
Oh, Cloudclan! Did I do something wrong to deserve this? I'll be a good girl, I swear, just... keep him away from me!
I flexed my ears downward and shifted my eyes to the floor. When he first came in here I was determined to make sure he didn't kill me, now, more than anything, I wanted him to do so.
"Maybe... you... could... uh... stay in the warriors den and... still be an elder? Yea, that would work, right? Pft... That's a great idea. Wildwind, you're a genius! So why don't you scoot on out of here and go to your den! See, this works for the both of us!"

Redstorm rolled his eyes and flicked tail tip. "When I retire, I will be staying in this den, Wildwind. Nothing you could ever say would make me choose otherwise." He said dryly, a bit of a thread in his voice. Now she was on his nerves. He knew she didn't like him, but she could least act a little nicer. He had no intentions on staying with the warriors after he were to retire. They were restless in the night and he would most likely end up murdering several of them not a moon after retirement.

Stubbon little... Oh look, there's that word better left unsaid again!
That just cut the last tie to my sanity. I would not share my den, especially not with him. No, just, NO.
"Fine, Redstorm. Have your way. But I'll let you know now, Your life in here will be made a living hell. Granted to you by yours truly." I wasn't lying. I'd go to great extremes to get my way. Whatever had to be done, I would do. No. Matter. What.

At that moment, he snapped. His fur fluffed up, his claws flexed and his jaw clenched. How dare she be such a fox heart?! He jumped to his paws and thrust his face to her, until he was nose-to nose with her. "Listen here you crazy old bat. I've worked my paws off to try and make you happy. You may not like the fact that I have four kits with Ivycloud, but you need to get over that. I love those kits, and I love Ivycloud. If that is a problem to you, then so be it. But I don't care. We both know that you can do NOTHING to make me leave this den when I retire. You're blind and half deaf as it is. If I wanted to, I could easily rip your throat out right now. So from now on, I would suggest stop being such an annoying like brat and get along with me. Because once I retire, I will be here for a long, long time. And I don't plan on backing down from retiring just because it is a pain in your tail." He lashed his tail and did everything he could note to swipe at the aged she-cat.

Now, if I hadn't been so caught off guard with a small comment, I would have said some pretty gruesome things, but as of now, I had blanked out as soon as he said four kits. I must not have heard him correctly. There was only Morningkit... Right...?
"Wait... WAIT, WHAT IN THE NAME OF CLOUDCLAN ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT? FOUR KITS? FOUR. FREAKING. KITS? WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU! I SWEAR, WHAT ARE YOU DOING TO MY SISTER! THERE IS NO WAY SHE WOULD EVER HAVE MORE KITS AFTER MORNINGKIT, ESPECIALLY WITH YOU. YOU'RE LYING. IVYCLOUD NEVER SAID ANYTHING ABOUT OTHERS. DON'T FREAKING LIE TO ME. THERE IS ONLY ONE. YOU'RE JUST TRYING TO PISS ME OFF. NO! NO! NO! NO! NO! GET OUT OF MY FREAKING DEN! I DON'T WANT TO EVER SEE YOUR FACE AGAIN! EVER! GET. OUT! AND LEAVE MY LITTLE SISTER ALONE!"
...and that's when all hell broke loose.

Redstorm hissed. "No, Wildwind, we have four. Morningkit, Brownkit, Thornkit and Winterkit. Two girls, two boys. And you know what, Ivycloud did have them with me. Ivycloud wanted the kits with me, too. And we both love those kits more than life. I don't know why this upsets you so much, but it shouldn't. This is simply love. You should know about love, you've had several kits yourself." He retorted sharply, unsheathing his claws.
