Okay, so the rumor is out by now. But just in case you're behind that times and haven't heard, the hacker was a friend of Skydancer's, named Andrea. After she hacked the site via Leah's account, Skydancer rightfully called Andrea's mother to let her know of Andrea's illegal activity on the internet. Her mother grounded her, but Leah and Skydancer saw that she came on VWW yesterday anyway. Now, that may seem like a bad thing, but fortunately, Skydancer was able to figure out Andrea's account; Nalakit. (Ironic, though, because a while back, people were asking me to ban her for various reasons!) So I then went on and banned her IP address only.
Now, if Andrea's as a good a hacker as we suspect, she should be able to out-hack the ban and get in anyway. But for now, that's the best I can do.
So, this brings me to my point...
There is a difference between hacking and knowing one's log-in information. Leah said that her password was very hard, and even if it were easy, there would still be a million easy passwords to guess! So we've pretty much come to the conclusion that Andrea really did hack into Leah's account. Why a person her age would know how to hack, I don't know. Why a person would hack a site like this, I still do not know! But this is proof that there are people out there who are ready and willing to hack sites like VWW, so we must all do our best to stay safe.
So say a problem like this were to occur again. What do you do? Just stay calm. The following are some various tips to keep you a little bit safer from such a thing to happen, and what to do if it happens here again.
•Change your password monthly; once a person knows your password, they can keep accessing your account, and you may not even be aware of it. They can get you in trouble, and ruin everything, so change your password every now and again so they don't have it saved.
-Make your password difficult; something you can remember, of course, but try to refrain from your name an birthday! Mix in some random numbers and letter, as well.
-Do not share you log-in info with anyone, including your good friends. They may fall out with you one day, and if it ended in a fight, who knows what they'll do.
•If someone is claiming to be an admin or leader (or anyone, for that matter) assume that it is not true. Now, that doesn't mean you should go around thinking that someone is in everyone's account all the time-just if a person is breaking the rules or acting suspicious-THAT'S when you can assume the worse. Ask them questions like "what's so-and-so's favorite color?", "what does so-and-so always say?", ect. If the person does not answer, or answers incorrectly, then you can confirm that it us an invader.
-If someone is in someone's account and you have confirmed it, do not message them on that account! The hacker will be the one to read and delete the message, and it'll never get to the actualy person. Contact another staff member, instead.
•If a hacker gets into VWW and deletes the site, go to the temporary/evacuation site. It's a back-up for when the real VWW is closed for maintenance and situations like these. A hacker could log in to my admin account at anytime, and delete the whole site. So that you guys don't have trouble finding us, bookmark the temporary site. I will NOT be posting the site all over the board or linking it, as it'll be easier for a hacker to get the link, go there, and delete that as well.
Now, I know that you guys have all been very excited to see the temporary site, but don't bother getting thrilled. It's NOTHING special, AT ALL. So don't complain, because it's merely a backup! I was going to wait until Operation: Soaring Eagle, but that hacker may be angry at me for banning her, so here it is. Remember to bookmark it!
