Nightpaw streched and padded out of the den the first rays of sunlight had already spread into the den. It reminded her back to when she was a kit and watched the sun rise with Oriolepaw. But with her growing age she would only get more busy and have less time to play, one more rank and she wouldn't have a drop of free time.
Nightpaw sighed and padded out of the den, she looked back at Oriolepaws black and white plet, slowly rising, then she saw Jaypaw in another corner of the den looking as good as ever, she sighed again and cept walking. Nettleflight must have slept in this morning, she thought as hunger ebbed at her stomach, she glanced at the pitifully small freshkill pile and tried to forget about her hunger, the clan needs to be fed before you do she though.
The Sun Rise border patrol was just leaving and disopeared out of the camp, "Hopefully someone will wake up soon," she said with a twinge of aditude and she pricked her eyes at the sound of movement.

A near-by apprentice shifted. She was trying to sleep on the branch she had stuck in the ground earlier. It was a rather strange sight, but Flyingpaw didn't really mind.
She finally awoke and dropped off the branch lazily. She too had a gnawing feeling in her stomach that she thought she had learned to ignore, having felt that way nearly since she was born. This time it was more intense. Rising to her paws, still groggy from sleep, she blinked in the morning sunlight.
"Oh, high, Nightpaw," she yawned. "How's it going?"

"Pretty good," Nightpaw purred noticing she was hungry too," want to share a mouse?"
Nightpaw couldn't help it she was hungry and flyingpaw seemed to be too, so she asked and didn't care what nettleflight said sharing wasn't going to hurt a sole.

Flyingpaw's stomache growled at the thought of a mouse, and her ears flattened sheepishly. "ok, lets go."

Nightpaw padded over to the fresh kill pile and selected a medium sized mouse and then sat it down before Flyingpaw, "you can have the first bite,"she said, licking the still warm blood off her jaws. I wonder who caught this she thought, pushing it twards Flyingpaw again go on.

Flyingpaw gratefully took the first bite of the mouse, trying not to make it too big. Licking her lips, she pushed it towards Nightpaw. She was now starting to get eager for her turn again to satisfy her rumbling stomach. It had been the night before the last since she had eaten because she was trying to save it for the cats who were doing the hunting, and the kits and queens.
She was sure Nightpaw deserved the food more, since she knew how to hunt and was probably born when the clan had fresh-kill to spare making her less used to the famine.

Nightpaw took a gratious bite, her withered stomach making it a hard task to keep it in. She had to keep forcing it down until finally it stayed. She sighed and pushed it back to Flyingpaw then laid on her back and looked at the sky, the ash still blowing off the trees. "Flyingpaw, I have something to tell you," she said looking around to see if anyone was there, and they werent, or not that she could see anyways, she would tell Oriolepaw later when they were alone, " I think I'm falling for Jaypaw."

Flyingpaw watched sympathetically as Nightpaw made pained expressions before passing her the mouse. Flyingpaw took a bite, and when her friend made a confession, she purred in amusement.
"It was easy enough to see that." she mewed, "the way you were goggling at him and following him everywhere." shaking her head, the apprentice said, "Here." and pushed the fresh kill closer to Nightpaw.

Nightpaw nawed on the mouses rib cage and scraped off and meat then gave flyingpaw the other half to naw off. "I hope he likes me back," Nightpaw sighed.
Getting to her feet she shook off the soot and began to lick herself clean.

Flyingpaw's whiskers twitched.
"Who couldn't like you back, your the most popular cat in the clan." she joked, referring to the days when Nightpaw was only Nightkit and a bit of an oddball, not the sleek she cat she was now. "Besides, it looks like he likes you, just not LIKE like you, if you know what I mean." The cream colored cat took a bite of her half of the mouse, now more interested in the conversation than the food.

Nightpaw blushed, "Im not the most popular cat in the clan," she replied, she didnt really want to be either, she would probably get caught up in things and forget her real friends. She flicked her tail and looked at the scraps of the mouse,"want me to go through those out?" she asked Flypaw, "I need something to do."
Nightpaw waited for her answer and started pawing at the scraps looking them over for any remains, although all that was left was bad to eat.

"Sure" Flyingpaw replied. "I think Jaypaw might be that kind of cat, the popular kind." she said, hoping he wouldn't hurt her friend. If he did, she decided to teach him a lesson, using claw and tooth if necessary.

Nightpaw picked up the remains, which were now cold and the blood tasted stale, making her want to cough up the mouse she had just eaten. But she kept it in and dropped the mouse behind the nursery in the heap of decomposing remains. Luckly they were mostly bones and didnt stink much. She covered the remains in dirt then trotted back over to Flyingpaw. The mid-day sun beginning to rise. (I would stop this thread but we both need the posts...)

Flyingpaw nodded in acknowledgment when Nightpaw returned.
"So, what have you been learning lately with Nettleflight?" she asked, trying to start a conversation. (lazy)

"Oh you know the normal hunting stuff, though it isnt her stongest piont," she mewed, turning twards Flyingpaw, "but all that is in my mind is Jaypaw, and I cant seem to get it out!"
Nightpaw shook her head rolled around, but it didnt work the picture was still in her head and she sighed, "anyone your interested in yet?" she asked Flyingpaw, although Flyingpaw might not want to say about it.
