( Just wanted to do this 'cauze I'm bored x3 )
Jaystrike sat outside the Apprentices' Den, a sincerely apologetic look set on the tom's face. He had broken his promise, and he was angry at himself for doing it. His amber eyes stared sadly inside the den, hoping to find the familiar blue-grey pelt and the single copper eye of his closest friend, Finchpaw.
I'm so sorry, Jay said in his mind, standing and turning to leave, only to be stopped from walking away by a call of his name. Jaystrike. How he hated his name now. He wished he was Jaypaw again, to be free from the duties of a warrior, and most importantly, to be with Finch again. With a saddened sigh, the calico tom turned around, hoping it was her that had called him.

(LOLOL I WAS JUST ABOUT TO MAKE A THREAD EXACTLY ABOUT THIS. :3)
A single yellow gleam met Jaystrike's two amber eyes from the darkness of the den. Finchpaw let out a long, slow sigh. How was she going to talk to the calico tom now? He'd broken their promise, and left her alone. Of course, the young apprentice had no idea what was happening between her old friend and that other she-cat, Nightsong. It sure wasn't going to be pretty when she did find out, though.
Jaystrike rose to his paws, beginning to leave. Somehow, the thought of not confronting her friend and leaving things alone seemed all the more terrible. Her one eye wide with sorrow and sudden desperation, Finchpaw darted forward, her jaws opening to let out a cry. "Jaystrike!"
She stopped in front of the tom, her expression deeply hurt. Finchpaw was no actor, either - she'd trusted this cat. They had been the best of friends... and maybe things even went a little further than that. The blue-gray cat stared at the calico for a few moments, her jaws parted, but she was unable to think of anything to say.
After what felt like moons, she finally spoke. "Why?" The single word somehow carried even more emotion than if she had tried to say more. She stared at Jaystrike through one coppery eye that might just be stinging with the threat of a tear. He had abandoned her. Who else did she have in the apprentices' den? Even Dustpaw had moved on, and he was Dustclaw. She was utterly alone, and she felt as if somehow she had been betrayed.

Jay just couldn't bear it any longer. He kept to the growing silence, thinking of a way to tell her how it happened. But even he didn't know why he had done it. Staring into her single yellow eye made guilt settle itself at the pit of his stomach and even more when he saw how hurt she was by what he had done.
Unable to stand it anymore, Jaystrike padded forward and shook his head, his amber eyes now gazing at his own paws. “I-I don't know ..” The calico tom mewed, his voice barely high enough to be declared a whisper. Again, he shook his head, tears threatening to spill from his eyes. “Finch .. I-I'm sorry. I didn't realize-” Jay mewed, trying his best to apologize, but he couldn't bring himself to string his words to sentences.
Biting his lip, he mentally stepped back, allowing something else get the best of him. Quite subconsciously, the warrior stepped nearer the she-cat, amber eyes staring into hers. “I-I'll make it up to you ..” He whispered, licking her face a few times before stepping back, waiting for another set of words to get himself even more crushed.

You don't know? But Jaystrike, you /promised/. Was it really just an insincere word? The one-eyed cat blinked, pretending not to notice the salty teardrop that rolled off cheek as she did so. "We were supposed to be... together. Were supposed to earn our... names... at the same time..." She trailed off, her voice faltering.
She heard the calico's apology, but her face registered no change. She still stood in front of the warrior, one paw half-raised as if she were about to take a shaky step. Eventually she took her paw back, turning her head so the blind side faced Jaystrike. And, not meeting her old friend's eyes, she began to cry silent, bitter tears. The apprentice wanted to wail out loud like a kit, but she held the sound back.
And then, before she could say anything, the amber-eyed tom was stepping closer. She turned to look at him once more, the side of her face damp with tears. His words hardly made an impact, but it was the warrior's soothing touch that dragged Finchpaw out of her thoughts. As he took a pace back, the blue-gray female moved forward, pressing her muzzle into his chest fur. Her feelings were torn in two by this cat; she felt so betrayed, and yet she couldn't let him go. So she just burrowed her face into his tricolored fur, just wanting to hold onto the scent of his pelt while more tears dripped into Jaystrike's fur.

He watched with sorrow held in his amber eyes, stepping near again to lick the single tear that fell from her single copper eye. He listened to her words, letting each and every single one of it sink into his mind. “I know, and I'm such a fox-heart for leaving you .. I'm sorry, Finch. I really am ..” Jaystrike reasoned, his own voice getting whisked away by a breeze that flew past.
“I'm so sorry ..” He mewed again, licking the top of her head, not even caring if his fur got wet by her tears. “Anything, Finch. Anything to make it up to you. I-I'll even risk my life just to be your Jaypaw again. Run away and be rouges, I don't care. Just stay with me. Please ..” The calico warrior mewed, trying to make her feel better. To make her realize that he wasn't going to leave her under any circumstance.
They were friends, best friends. And he silently promised to CloudClan that he wasn't gong to leave her ever again, even if he died in doing so. Anything for her. Still rasping his rough pink tongue across the top of the blue-grey apprentice's head, Jaystrike murmured one thing he had been wanting to tell her but just hadn't enough time to do it.
“I'll never leave. Ever. and you know that. Friend or not, I'll always be there for you.”

Finchpaw absolutely refused to remove her face from Jaystrike's soft calico fur. She was listening to every word the tom was saying now. Although salty drops still seeped from her eye, the lapping of the warrior's tongue on her fur was calming. She took a deep, shuddering breath at last, and moved just enough to be able to look at Jaystrike.
"You better not be leaving," she managed to say after a few deep breaths. "Because I'm not letting you go." Sure, it might sound cliche as heck, but it was true. As soon as she finished her training, Finchpaw was determined to make it even more so.
She moved to stand beside Jaystrike, resting her tail-tip on his shoulders. "Come on. Let's go see what we can scavenge from the fresh-kill pile." She let out a slow sigh, trying to stay calm so she didn't end up sobbing again. She began to walk ever-so-slowly, her gaze set not on the camp, but on the future. She would become a warrior, and then... well. First things first, right?

Smiling softly at the blue-grey female, Jaystrike nodded his head in a solemn way. “Of course I won't. I never will.” He answered, an almost inaudible purr emitting from his vocals. Jay stood up, flicking his tail at her ear and giving her his usual playful, mischievous smirk before padding to the fresh-kill pile, Finchpaw right beside him.
Jay let his amber eyes trail their gaze to the sky, where the sun was now setting, the different colors blending with the darkening sky perfectly. The calico tom finally halted when he felt his paws brush against cold, mildly wet fur. He gazed down, seeing a rotten-looking mouse at his feet. He nudged it away, hoping nobody else would eat that.
Jaystrike turned to Finchpaw, lowering his head in some kind of bow and letting his eyes flicker to hers and his smirk widen slightly. “You first, I believe?” He said in a joking voice, tail flicking one of the grey apprentice's ears again.

And just like that, things were almost back to normal. It was almost as if the calico was Jaypaw again, when they were playing in the clearing like the oversized kits they were. Finchpaw let out a soft purr as well. The two made their way to the fresh-kill pile in contented silence. The apprentice hoped she didn't look too much like a mess after that, but too bad if she did. Right now, all that mattered was having Jaystrike right by her side.
The sun was casting a fantastic display of colors across the sky as it sank closer to the horizon. Finchpaw turned the good side of her face to the stars for just a moment, enjoying the feel of the dying light on her fur. Dappled light shone on the two cats' pelts, and the apprentice's expression gradually turned into a faint smile.
When they came across the half-rotten prey, she didn't pay it much mind. Now, if she had been a medicine cat or a nervous old elder, she would have taken a moment to realize the significance of the mouse. A rotten omen in their path... indeed, there was more to come before Jaystrike and Finchpaw could truly be a pair. That mouse represented a certain she-cat called Nightsong.
But Finchpaw wasn't a medicine cat or a paranoid old elder. She certainly didn't expect that there was more to overcome before she could be happy with Jaystrike. So she spared the rotten prey only a half-glance before passing it, hoping that no one would end up in Waspwing and Fernpelt's den with a bellyache.
She grinned at Jaystrike's flicking of her ear, and she returned his joking half-bow. "Why thank you, good sir," she purred before snatching up a thrush in her jaws. The apprentice retreated a few paw-steps to a clump of ferns, where she laid down with her meal. She looked up at the warrior expectantly, feeling as if nothing else could go wrong between them. After all, they had everything settled. Right?

Chuckling at Finchpaw's response to what he was doing, Jaystrike straightened up again and picked a thrush from the poorly stocked fresh-kill pile. Settling down beside the blue-grey she-cat, the lean tom put down his share of the prey and began tearing it into little pieces, a contented look crossing his face.
Right now, everything was okay and it felt like nothing could ruin it, except for just one little thing. What am I doing to my life?, he asked himself, groaning in his mind and doing a mental roll of his eyes. The young tom turned to Finchpaw after he was done with his meal, digging a hole and burying the remaining bones of what was once a living, breathing creature of the forest.
Just to make Finch think that everything was going to be all right, Jaystrike stubbornly pushed the thought to the back of his mind, his full attention on the apprentice he was with and her only. Smiling his kit-like smile, the calico-pelted warrior attempted to tackle her to the ground gently, not wanting to hurt her any more than he already had.
“Gotcha~” He declared with a purr rising in his throat and echoing all around the two felines.

The blue-gray cat began to take swift, neat bites of her prey as Jaystrike settled down and started his own meal. She smiled softly, enjoying everything about this moment. She was with Jaystrike, the sun was setting beautifully over the forest, they were eating a meal together... what more could a cat want?
Having finished her thrush just after the calico tom did, she buried the meal as well before sitting down. A quiet purr rumbled in the half-blind cat's throat as she began to lap at a forepaw, drawing it over the good side of her face. She flicked an ear, glancing over at Jaystrike as she continued grooming her pelt. Something seemed to be almost troubling her friend. Finchpaw tilted her head curiously, wondering what in CloudClan there was to worry about now.
The thought was pushed away as Jaystrike broke out his trademark grin. Hmm... must have been nothing important, I suppose, she concluded somewhat reluctantly. Perhaps she'd ask him about it soon. Finchpaw rose to her paws, and was immediately pounced on by the calico. "Ugh! You got me!" she meowed in a light joking tone. Finchpaw was pinned to the ground, and she tried to roll over to loosen Jaystrike's grip with a laugh.
Just like old times, indeed... it was almost as if nothing had changed. The two were wrestling in a carefree kit-like manner, much like they had Jaystrike was still an apprentice. Something had changed, though - and it wasn't just the fact that the calico had gotten his warrior name. Something was going on behind the scenes, and it wouldn't stay a secret for long. Nightsong would very soon become a part of Finchpaw's life... whether sooner or later, it was still bound to happen.

Well at least for now everything was fine .. but even good things have to go away sometimes. Jaystrike purred in amusement, amber eyes twinkling happily like they used to do when he was still the old Jaypaw. "Is it that obvious?" He replied in a tone that had only friendly sarcasm in it. Waving his tail back and forth, Jay rolled off of her, his back on the ground and all four of his paws high up in the air.
Finchpaw knew what he was doing, having been his best friend every since they met all those moons ago in the Apprentices' Den. The reminder of that day made him laugh, his voice drifting off into the coming night. Turning his head around so that he could see the blue-grey apprentice, Jaystrike smiled, putting his white paw on her nose for just a moment before putting it away.
"You know, I wish it could stay like this forever. You and me .. Nobody else to ruin it." The calico tom mused. Realizing what he said, the tips of his ears grew warm and he looked away, smiling sheepishly at himself.

(YESH I'M AT 150 POSTS. >D)
The two cats stayed lying on their backs, staring up at the spectacular colors of the dying sun as it sank below the horizon. Finchpaw purred quietly as Jaystrike turned toward her, resting one of his gentle paws on her nose for a second. She licked the paw carefully as it drew away, smiling.
Her tail twitched as the calico spoke again. Noticing how he looked embarrassed, she reached out a paw to bat lightly at his ears. "Well, that would be nice," she replied, her voice a half-whisper. Somehow, she was surprised that she hadn't rejected the thought immediately. Would I really be happy with Jaystrike? she asked herself silently, her face solemn. Somehow, she couldn't think of the answer being anything but yes.
Well, she was nearly a warrior. In just a little while, she would be able to share a den with the calico cat once again. Apprenticeship really was too young for a true romance... but then again, she only had a few more days left as an apprentice. Just imagine! I would be Finchsong, and we'd be able to be... together. The blue-gray cat's cheeks started to grow hot, and she resolved to just enjoy the evening. After all, what harm were they doing?

[ Ohmygod. MOAR DRAMA. -shot- ]
Jay chuckled when Finch batted at his ears, making it twitch involuntarily. His eyes widened as he heard her answer. "That would be nice." Those words rang in his ears, engraved themselves in his mind. His tricolored fur grew even more warm at this, but this just wouldn't be the end of it. There were no happy endings, especially with him. Sighing silently but keeping his face free of that particular emotion, Jaystrike let his tongue rasp once on the grey she-cat's nose.
Now grinning, Jaystrike stood to his paws, almost bouncing as he did so. "Bet you can't-" The calico started to say, only to be stopped as thunder boomed loudly, making him pin back his ears and wince lightly at the loud sound. His amber eyes gazed at the sky, now darkening to an almost black color. Rain started pouring, drenching his fur with water. He looked at Finchpaw, beckoning her to the Apprentices' Den with a nod of his head. His white paws easily obeyed to what he wanted and he started to trot to the dry, cool den, hopefully with her right behind him.
Sitting down by the entrance, where the rain couldn't touch him, Jaystrike waited for the apprentice to sit by him.

(More drama for the win. Heh. :3)
If she had indeed been a reader of omens, the sudden downpour would have set her on edge. A storm was darkening bright skies... So there would be more problems yet to come. But Finchpaw had remained the same naive young cat, and she anticipated none of this.
She got to her paws quickly as rain began to fall, narrowing her good eye against the precipitation and flattening her ears. The thunder was a bit loud and unnerving; she had never liked storms. The apprentice darted after her friend, settling down just inside the apprentices' den with an indignant shake of her pelt. "Ugh, so much for the sunset," she meowed half-jokingly.
Finchpaw shivered slightly, scooting a little closer to Jaystrike and pressing up against his flank. "Great CloudClan, I wasn't planning on getting drenched," she protested weakly. The half-blind cat began to lap at her pelt, trying to dry off and warm up. She looked up after a moment, gazing into the clearing. Rain was pouring down, creating small puddles all over, and lightning crackled across the sky.
Truth be told, the apprentice had been terrified of thunder and lightning ever since the fire. It had been much harder escaping the blaze with only one eye; Koisplash had been the one to save her. Finchpaw let out just the faintest whimper as thunder echoed through the air, and she buried her face in Jaystrike's soft fur once again.

Jaystrike nodded in agreement, his smile fading as an image of the forest fire flashed in his mind. Lightning struck again, making his calico fur bristle at the startling light. But upon hearing Finchpaw's voice, he stayed calm, not wanting to scare her even more than she already was. "And I thought I was the only one complaining about that." He joked with a small grin, the corners of his lips twitching upward and showing off his sharp teeth.
"Wasn't planning on this either. But hey, you couldn't possibly blame us for not knowing." He said, shrugging his shoulders and letting a purr rumble in his throat. Jay's amber eyes slightly widened when Finch pressed up against him, but that wasn't really the case. The one that surprised him that he didn't object to the she-cat's actions. Instead, his white-tipped tail curled rather protectively around her more slender figure and letting warmth envelop the two felines.
Worry instantly struck him as Finch made the smallest of whimpers and buried her face into his fur in a frightened way. He felt his tail curl up even more protectively around her. "It's okay. I'm here." He assured the grey apprentice, licking the fur between her ears.
