The tom's fluffy white tail curling around her, as well as Jaystrike's soothing tone, calmed the apprentice down somewhat. She drew her face away for a moment to glance outside, just as another bolt of lightning lit up the sky. Another monumental crash of thunder made her press even closer to the calico, her good eye wide with fear.
Lightning had sparked the forest fire that had ravaged TreeClan's forest. As the tongues of flame had devoured the territory, the Clan had scattered and fled blindly, trying desperately to escape the blaze. She had tried to run, but there had been too much smoke, and she hadn't been able to see well enough with just one eye. It had been Koisplash that saved her, guiding her to the IceClan border. The apprentice flinched at the memory, trying not to remember that day, but the images kept filling her mind.
Taking a deep breath in an attempt to calm herself, she turned to Jaystrike. "You can stay here, just for the night," she meowed in a shaky voice. "I mean, it's storming... I don't want you to have to get rained on again." She didn't mention the other reason, that she was scared to stay all alone with the thunder crashing overhead. Finchpaw gazed at her friend pleadingly, feeling rather pathetic for being scared of a little lightning. But at the same time, she couldn't help it. The memory of the fire was just too strong...

Fire danced in his eyes, snapping at his heels and threatening to burn him alive. He was calling for Finchpaw, but only catching sight of her blue-grey pelt along with the deputy's. The calico Tom had come across Dustpaw, Finch's rival. And as much as he wanted to leave him there, he just couldn't. Jay tried to help him, but he refused and even threatened to hurt him.
Shaking the memories away, he listened closely to his friend's pleading. He nodded in response, licking the fur between her ears again in a second attempt to calm her down even more. " Will do, Finch. " He said in a somewhat firm tone. Jaystrike stood, nudging the femme to do the same. " We should get some sleep. Who knows, maybe tomorrow will be your assessment. " He half-joked, padding to the nest where Finchpaw's scent lingered strongly.
The calico Tom sat down, waiting for her to lay down beside him. He would always be there for her, and today it seemed was the time to prove it to her. Truth be told, he would stay here until the end of his days just to be with her. Stretching his paws out in front of him, Jaystrike let his body set itself into a laying position.

The younger cat felt a surge of relief as Jaystrike agreed. She hadn't any idea how she'd sleep without her friend around, not with this storm. Finchpaw followed the calico without hesitation as he padded over to her nest, and quickly settled down next to the tom. Hoping that she wasn't coming off as too clingy or nervous, she rested her face against his shoulder.
The blue-gray cat felt much better now, despite the fact that the storm was still raging. Letting out a small yawn, she blinked her good eye as a sudden wave of exhaustion washed over her. "Do you really think I'll be a warrior so soon?" she asked, feeling a small glow of hope warming her thoughts. "I'll be so happy when I do get my ceremony," she purred quietly. Finchpaw didn't want to be alone anymore, to her surprise; she just wanted to be able to stay with Jaystrike forever.
She wrapped her tail close to herself as she trailed off into silence. A thought struck her - perhaps she and Jaystrike were more than just friends. To her surprise, Finchpaw didn't immediately shy away from the idea. She was almost a warrior, after all... Apprentice romances were rather fleeting, but somehow this seemed different. The half-blind cat snuggled close to the calico, enjoying the feeling of his warm pelt. It was better than sitting in a cold nest alone, that was for sure. She shifted her head so her cheek was on her friend's shoulder, and her good eye began to lose the battle to stay open. The apprentice began to purr softly, drifting slowly into sleep despite the storm.

( Meh. Post shall be lazy. -nod- )
Jaystrike nodded his head in reply, not caring if anybody thought of him as a demented cat for staying in the apprentices' den even if he was already a warrior. "Of course you will. And you'll be one of those cats that become warriors because of their determination, not some love-stricken apprentice who only wants to be a warrior so that mates can be allowed." The calico mewed softly, his thoughts ebbing away as a yawn emitted from his vocals.
Jay felt happy again, as if his broken promise hadn't done any change in their friendship. But something else was on his mind. Not Nightsong, or any other she-cat he had met, but Finch and him only. Was it really like this? Well, he'll just have to wait. Let it grow in its own time. He wouldn't push it too far for he was still afraid of breaking their relationship forever.
Amber eyes drifted back to the blue-grey female, a small smile playing on his maw when he saw Finchpaw losing her will to stay awake and slowly getting carried away by sleep. Now that he was bothered by his drowsiness, Jaystrike let himself drift off to a peaceful slumber as well, the feel of his best friend right beside him making content warm his heart.
