(Private; Redstorm and I only. Thanks.)
Maplefrost shivered. What a miserable day. The now-senior warrior had woken up early because the warriors' den roof was leaking again. It had been raining hard since late the previous night, and the precipitation hadn't eased yet.
Seeing as how the fresh-kill pile had been running low, she had spent the entire morning hunting for the Clan in the drenching rain. The tortoiseshell cat was now chilled to the bone, not to mention frustrated. There had hardly been any prey around, and she had only caught a few mice and some fish.
Sighing, the long-furred cat padded toward the elders' den with a mouse hanging from her jaws by its tail. She hoped that it was dry in there; otherwise she was likely to be tasked with fixing the roof. She wanted to go and pay a visit to the Clan's famous elder, Redstorm, in any case. Maybe she'd be able to chat with him.
Maplefrost entered the den, water streaming from her pelt, and sat down just inside. She glanced around. "Redstorm? I've brought prey. Is the roof holding up?" The Maine Coon female's gaze was warm despite her slight frustration; it was always great to visit the elders.

"Finally, someone here to fix the blasted roof!" He growled, eyeing Maplefrost. "I'm freezing, wet and freezing. Yes, I said freezing twice. That's because I'm practically freezing my fur off!" He muttered, pacing around.
"Nobody ever bothers to check here anymore. Only when they're forced by their mentors do apprentices come, and warriors simply only come when they want to escape the horrible life of being a warrior." He muttered, mostly to himself.
It was always the same with him. Complain about the lack of respect, sleep, and then have a meaningful talk. It was becoming a cycle, one he would eventually have to break if he wanted to stay sane.
"...What kind of prey?"

Oh, great CloudClan. So the roof was indeed leaking. Maplefrost flinched as water dripped onto her already-soaked pelt. She forced herself to remain positive, however, and smiled at Redstorm. Rising to her paws again, she deposited the mouse on a dry patch of ground near the pacing elder. "It's mouse. Not too fat, unfortunately, but it's still warm," she meowed, answering his question.
The tortoiseshell glanced up at the roof, and was rewarded by a splash of water on her nose. "I'm Maplefrost, by the way," she sighed conversationally. "No worries; I'll get to fixing the roof." With that, she whisked out of the den, grimacing as rain poured onto her drenched tricolor fur. The warrior snatched up a mouthful of broad, waxy leaves from a plant near the edge of camp. She then darted back to the elders' den with the leaves clamped in her jaws, and set the bundle down near the entrance.
She picked up one of the leaves and stretched up so she could reach the roof. Then, taking care not to make any of the leaking worse, the she-cat began to weave the strong, flexible leaf into the branches above. "So, I trust that the apprentices have been taking care of you?" she asked without looking away from her task. Perhaps Redstorm was in a talkative mood.

"Hah! I probably do more work for the apprentices than they do for me." He growled, taking a bite out of the mouse. "They're all lazy and arrogant today. Same with about half of the warriors. You're one of the few warriors in this clan that isn't afraid to do work and do your duties." It was uncommon for him to give compliments to strangers, but he knew Maplefrost by name. She was getting to be a popular warrior, and he respected the fact that she didn't sit around and mope about mates all day.
(too lazy to make post look decent)

She dropped back onto all fours for a moment to take another of the leaves before returning to her task. "I sometimes wonder what in CloudClan goes through the minds of the newer generations," she sighed halfheartedly. Maplefrost flicked an ear in surprise at the elder's compliment. "In any case, I'm glad to help," the long-furred cat meowed. "It's not as if I can abandon my duties as a warrior like some of these younger cats."
Having finished with patching up one of the leaks in the roof, she moved on to another problematic area of the ceiling and started weaving in more of the broad, waxy leaves. "Have you gotten out of camp recently?" the younger female inquired. She hoped that the elder wasn't staying cooped up in the den all the time. After all, everyone needed to exercise once in a while if they were to stay healthy.

"Uh..Not really." He had last been out with Windflurry, out fishing. That was at least a moon ago, maybe two. Memory of that event was beginning to disappear.
"I suppose I need to get out once more before Leaf-Bare falls." He said with a little more enthusiasm. To be completely honest, he hated snow. Light snow was fine, and somewhat pretty. But the heavy snow that fell during the heart of Winter was not only annoying, but also bad for health.
Winter always brought illness, specifically Whitecough and Greencough, sometimes even Blackcough. Wildwind was known to get sick every single Winter, and Redstorm was known to go into depression during the blizzard seasons.

"Well, I'd be happy to go out with you anytime. It's not as if I've got any apprentices to keep me busy all the time, and you've got to get some fresh air before the cold really sets in." The warrior reached for another leaf, wincing as water dripped into her face.
"Great CloudClan, this roof is just full of holes! I'd swear it looks as if no one's ever touched it." Maplefrost gritted her teeth as a cold trickle of water made its way down her forepaw and onto her back. Fortunately, it looked as if that particular leak was almost fixed.
Weaving a few more leaves into place, she sat back to admire her work. The roof was certainly dripping less. As another splash of water caught her eye, the tortie moved over to a new part of the ceiling and continued her labor.
"Eat your mouse before it gets cold," she commented with a purr to the elder. "You'll need some fresh meat to warm your belly in this weather." Luckily, her job was almost done. Her back feeling a little stiff, Maplefrost continued repairing the last hole with one ear angled toward Redstorm.

"Perhaps we can go out in a few days. Today is a bit too rainy for my liking." He purred, taking another bite out of the mouse.
"Tell me, Maplefrost, how is life truly treating you lately? Not too stressful I hope." Ew, small talk. Still as bad at it as ever.
(Lazy, sorry)

(Bluh, I'm a bit lazy too.)
She settled back onto her haunches, gazing up at the roof with a small glow of satisfaction warming her pelt. "That should do it. Anyway, just let me know when you're ready to go for a stroll. I'm usually to be found in the warriors' den."
The tortie scooted over so she could sit on a semi-dry patch of earth. "I've been quite well, actually. I'm lucky to be healthy and strong this leaf-fall; I wouldn't want to fall ill later in the season. Hopefully, with my long fur, I'll avoid catching a chill even with all this wet weather. As far as Clan duties go, it's the usual. I'm without an apprentice, so that makes things a tad easier."
She gazed calmly at the elder. "Have you been doing okay? Nothing unusual to report?" Maplefrost was a little concerned for Redstorm, even though she wasn't about to openly admit to it. He was looking a little frail - but then again, perhaps that was the usual for an older cat?
