Hello!
This is Rushingheart. This is my first time posting in the Debate Club. So I wanted to begin a debate.
Is it true that the world is going to end on December 21st?
Like everyone at my school says its gonna. Like they said that the world was going to end on October 2011 and.... IT NEVER HAPPENED. I disagree with what people say about the worlds gonna end on December 21st. Exactly, I think its stupid and a piece of crap. Because get WUT?! When its December 21st. IM GONNA BE LIKE TO EVERYONE. if the world doesnt end "I TOLD YOU! I TOLD YA ALL!!!" And they will be extremely embarrassed and be like WTF?
Now, I know, I know. This is a stupid debate. But I was wondering what YOU think. Tell me now! And sorry fi this doesnt belong in the debate club

The world isn't going to end. Plain and simple. The Mayans ran out of room on their calendar and as a side note, it wasn't a sign of the end of the world; it was a commonly celebrated day in their culture.
And don't rub it in their faces because that'd be a bit rude, i think the knowledge that you never fell for these stupid rumors if just enough, you can just have a smug smile on your face the entire day/the rest of your life.
But yeah, no, the world isn't going to end just so suddenly. The world isn't going to collide with some distant planet nearby, an asteroid isn't going to hit us, the world isn't going to combust on that specific day. So don't worry.

Scientists have predicted the sun will become a red giant in around a billion or so years. They say the sun will consume Mercury, Venus, and Earth that day. The world will not end on December 21st. This is a quote from the last paragraph of this site. The world will not end, so relax, people who believe it will. |

The world will not end on December 21, because my yogurt says it is best by February 12, 2013.

I AGREE! the world ISN'T gonna end PEOPLE! OMG! WHY DO PEOPLE KEEP THINKING THAT?! the world will end when the Lord decides it to end. I really don't care right now if you're an athiest and don't believe in God, I'm NOT debating! This is NOT the thread.

Hmm. Personally, I'm not religious and I don't really care what the Mayans predicted all those years ago. Everyone said the world was going to end at the advent of 2000. People say the world is going to end all the time. If anything, I do not believe that things will magically blow up from some supernatural "Judgement Day". If humans survive long enough, the sun becoming a red giant would destroy the earth - but heh, I'm sure we wouldn't have stayed on this planet by then if we had any sort of technological advancement. Humans are actually destroying themselves far quicker than that would happen anyway - the way the environment is headed, we'll turn the earth into a second Mars fairly soon.
So lolyeah. Sorry for all those who disagree, but I've shared my views - the world isn't going to magically end unless we bring it about or natural causes do so first.

Heha, I guess we all agree. This is like sorta like a friendly debate. But lets get this straight, THE WORLD ISN'T GONNA END. But if it does.... We all ill regret what we said. But thats how life goes!

I personally am one of those people who make fun of the world ending. I laugh that it will end, 'cause I could care less. Eh, so the world's gonna end. What are ya' gonna do about it? Also, SNookie's due date is around December 21st, making the end so much more hilarious.
But it has been said that every year, the Earth moves a little bit closer to the sun. So, about thousands of years from now, we'll all burn up. =)

The people at your school will probably end up as the weird guy sitting on the street with a cardboard box that says, "It's the End of The World! Give me some food." Not to be mean or anything... Please don't call me Hun. It urks me becaue it makes me sound young and sound like a noob, which I certainly am not. Don't call me hun again, seeing that I have been on for about a year now, which, Miss Rushingheart, makes me not a hun. It was on NASA's site, and I can't pull it up right now because it was long ago. Besides, I'd prefer that the world would end. It would be so freaking hilarious to see people panic and squirm. |

We'll only burn up if we don't advance in space technology. By the time expands and what not, we could easily have advanced enough to make colonies many galaxies away.
But hey, we're humans. We're constantly too busy with our personal wars to actually take time to evolve, to become a superior species.
Anyway.
I don't believe the world is going to end on December 21st of natural causes. There are no meteors spotted coming at us. There are no volcanoes, or at least none I know of, that are big enough to wipe out the planet, and are active at the same time.
However, we could easily wipe out most of our planet ourselves. With all of our bombs, nukes, etc. All with the push of buttons.
So is it possible that the world could end December 21st of this year? Yes. Is it likely? Not really.
