Oh gosh, this place is a mess!

Goatpaw padded into the Medicine Cats' Den, large wad of moss resting between his chin and his chest. He needed to start cleaning some dens, and what better den to clean than this one? Despite the fact that this was supposed to be a place filled with injured and sick, Goatpaw loved this place. The herbs all blended together in a delightful set of scents, and Forestbreak and Clovepetal both seemed so nice. It was a shame he didn't get to talk to them that much, they probably had so many life lessons and stuff to give.

Oh well, he was here to clean, not to chat away. Medicine Cats would probably be too busy, anyway. He began by pawing at some old moss, hoping to Cloudclan it was contaminated with some kind of disease or something. Finally he clawed it all away to the side, shaking his paw to free one last scrap of it. He then began to fluff up some of the moss he had brought in, setting it in more of a nest shape. He had originally tried to bring some feathers, but most of them seemed to have fallen out while he was on his way. Oh well.

Forestbreak poked her head up from the corner of the den, a leaf of thyme in her mouth. "Hello, apprentice." She grinned and spat the leaf out, then slunk towards the front of the den, nearer to the young cat. "Here yo clesn? I ppreciate is." She purred. "We haven't had anyone come to clean for a while. Between caring for patients and cleaning everything singlehandedly, my workload's been pretty heavy. So thanks."

Sitting back, she watched as the apprentice worked. "Good work. A lot of cats just shove some limp moss crookedly into the nest and skip away to chat with their little girlfriends."

Goatpaw smiled at Forestbreak, giving her a respectful nod as she padded over. Even though he knew the Medicine Cats were pretty nice, he still felt a bit anxious around them. Something about the fact that they had a type of 'power' that no other cats in the Clan had was somewhat intimidating.

"Oh, I actually enjoy doing this. Between training and listening to all the other apprentices blabber nonsense, this is what tends to keep me sane." He purred, pawing away at another old nest. "Plus, there's something about this den that's kind of amazing. I can't tell if it's the smell of the herbs, or if I missed some kind of true calling of being a Medicine Apprentice."

Forestbreak smirked. She liked this kid. "Glad you find your refuge in this kind of thing. Drop by whenever you like if you're tired of the rest of the apprentices. I could use some company from time to time. You know, someone to talk to. Clovepetal hasn't been around much lately," she admitted.

"Yep, it smells nice in here, doesn't it?" She kept listening to the apprentice, then added, "I'm sorry you feel you missed your calling. Unfortunately, we're not taking apprentices. Anyhow, being a warrior will be pretty fun, huh?" She smiled, genuine sympathy in her eyes.

"It does smell pretty good." He purred, replacing yet another old nest. "But yeah, being a warrior will be pretty nice. Despite enjoying this den, I don't think I could handle the sick and injured. I think that's what I respect you and Clovepetal for most. You see so many horrible things, and you always seem to be so calm." He mumbled, sniffing at another bit of bedding.

[Forestbreak]

"I suppose so. I think we're all afraid like that on the inside when we see the injured. We medicine cats are just better at keeping it locked up." She smiled softly. "Keeping a cool head is critical, so we can't afford to let our nerves get the better of us."

"You haven't told me your name yet," she added. "What's your name, kid?"

"Oh, silly me. My name is Goatpaw." He purred, clawing at at what seemed to be the last nest. He didn't really want this to end, he was actually having fun talking to Forestbreak. But soon enough he'd have to get the job done and move on to his next line of duties. But he'd probably be back to clean eventually.

"You're most likely aware that I am Forestbreak." She smiled crookedly at the apprentice. "Well, it was wonderful speaking with you, Goatpaw. Feel free to drop by whenever you need refuge from those crazed warriors and apprentices." She padded to the back of the den and began pawing at a few dried clumps of herbs on the den floor. "Good luck in becoming a warrior."

"Thanks Forestbreak." He purred, glancing around to make sure he hadn't forgotten anything. Yep, done, time to leave. He watched as she padded to the back of the den, and nodded. "Thanks again. I promise, when I get an apprentice, I'll make sure they come and clean your den, too!" He purred, trotting out of the den.

[Forestbreak]

"Wonderful. Most mentors aren't very strict when it comes to getting their apprentices to clean dens. Believe me, it's been forever since someone besides me has tidied up this place." She smirked. "It is my den, but still, it's a big place, and it's an awful lot of work to get everything in shape constantly."

"Anyhow, goodbye, Goatpaw. I hope to see you later."
