"Ugh. How did such a fine cat create that? "
Firelight shook her head in disgust, inquiring the remark to Snowflare, but leaving an open answered air to no one in particular.
"So, what are your thoughts on the Vaporpaw deal?"

"Particularly, I have no opinion on Vaporpaw's betrayal. It would be unkindly of me to say anything."
Snowflare bristled at Firelight's comment.
"Be respectful, Firelight. I'm sure Hawkbreeze is a fine and gentle tom, and you don't need to be saying anything unkind about him. And Sparrowfur is your mother? That's dazzling news, always to find out who your real mother is."
She smiled, laughing softly, almost in a purr.

"I have nothing really to say. One more cat we can't trust out of the clan."
Hawkbreeze walked over to Snowflare, resting his tail on her shoulder, looking at Firelight.
"Firelight! You never told me how kind your daughter is!" he exclaimed.

Snowflare blushed, and covered her face with her plume of a tail.
"Well, I wouldn't be so bold as to say that, but I do try to be as nice as I can to everyone I meet. You never know when someone is having a bad day."
She closed her eyes in a lighthearted laugh.
"Yes, I am just like old Firelight, aren't I? She's just the sweetest thing imaginable. But thank you, Hawkbreeze. That really does mean a lot," She breathed.

Firelight said nothing, but narrowed her eyes into yellowy slivers, staring intently at Snowflare's shoulder. What was he thinking, after her warning? He should even be having social contact with her daughter, but let alone physical contact? She growled to herself, looking at her feet. Mothers would be mothers.

"It's no problem at all, Snowflare. I love meeting friendly cats." He removed his tail from her shoulder, reclaiming his former seat. "Calm down, Firelight. I won't ever hurt your daughter. It's like I won't hurt her by talking to her."

"I didn't say you were going to hurt her. I just don't need your germs and awful ideas infesting in my daughter's mind."
Firelight scowled, in a pouty kind of way. At heart, she was still a kit. If she couldn't have her way, nobody could.

Snowflare looked up at Hawkbreeze. He was such a massive cat, she had to tilt her whole head back, or, at least, she was a rather short cat, with her short legs, and her incredibly plumy body. Must be paternal. Firelight was, after all, very lithe and long legged.
She grinned. "Really, Firelight, I do believe I'll be talking to Hawkbreeze more often in the future, regardless of what you think of him. He's a clanmate. Not an enemy warrior. Smooth your fur, will you?"

He smiled at Snowflare, a warm purr in his throat.
"It will be nice to speak to you again, sometime. I'm free when you wish to talk. Anyway, Firelight. You still going to bite off my tail and make me Hawkstub?"

Snowflare nodded happily. Then, at his following words, gasped, horrorstruck.
"She can't possibly be serious, can she?! Bite your tail off, make you Hawkstub?!"
Snowflare glanced from Firelight to the tom, still shocked he'd say such a thing.

"Well, she did say she could bite off my tail, but I came up with the Hawkstub part." he meowed, cracking a smile at his little joke about being Hawkstub.
