Willowbreeze turned to hear the screeches of Ibiswing and Cherryleaf. "Cherryleaf, what are you doing? Get out of there!" she yowled above the roar of the flames. Tongues of blazing red and orange flicked at her pelt, and flaming leaves fell from the sky. Tempted to run leap around the walls of flame to reach the TreeClan warrior, she gasped and began coughing with tears in her eyes as the wind buffeted her fur with scorching smoke and embers.
Cracking one eye open with her teeth gritted and claws digging into the searing grass, she barely managed to see the silhouette of Cherryleaf's body through the smoke and falling ashes before she yowled once more and leaped into the flames. "Cherryleaf!"
Willowbreeze squealed in shock as she heard the loud crack of more charred tree branches falling nearby, sending a blizzard of embers and ash into the air. Closing her burning eyes and coughing on the smoke that threatened to suffocate her in the next couple minutes, she had to find somewhere safe from the fire. Deciding not to stick around any longer, the silver tabby--probably now charcoal-colored from the endless smoke and singes--pelted off where the smoke began to barely thin. Looking back to see how far the flames were from burning her pelt off, her front paw slipped and she gasped as she tumbled down what seemed to be a small ravine and plunged into the stream at the bottom of it. A stream! Yes, finally! It was only a couple tail-lengths deep and four tail-lengths across, but it would hopefully keep the fire from reaching to the other side.
She hadn't run too far from the other warriors, but the way she came was about to be closed in by more flames. "Ibiswing! Cloudbreeze! Quickly, there's a stream over here!" she screeched, hoping her voice would just barely be audible above the roaring inferno. Climbing to the top of the ravine away from the fire, Willowbreeze sat shaking, her eyes clouded in shock with the stunned memory of Tuftfeather's lower body crushed by a monster and Cherryleaf charging into the wall of fire that enclosed her replaying itself in her head.
"Ibiswing, Cloudbreeze, hurry!"
