Hawkspirit could now sense the presence of Cheetahfur. He instantly stopped crying and sat upright looking at Cheetah with his puffy eyes. She looked like she was about to cry herself. "Cheetah, I...." Hawk croaked. His voice felt raw from sobbing and he didn't know what to do. He felt so weak and afraid and unsure. Hawk was vulnerable. For the first time in his life, he was vulnerable. Hawk now realized how brave he tried to be, but couldn't. Not now. It was too hard.

 "Don't." Cheetahfur whispered. "Just, don't." She put her head on the floor. She now thought of all the brave things she had done. How brave she had TRIED to be. It started to rain. Thunder crackled above her head. She can't be brave anymore. The two things she was most afraid of. Losing Hawkspirit and thunder. But she can't move. She just can't move. She crouched there, rain soaking her pelt. For once in her life, she didn't know what to do. She had broken her leg, twisted her ankle, got into 2 real fights with her clanmates. She had known what to do. She did nothing. She just carried on with her life. But now, wih a little rain and a tom, she didn't know what to do. She couldn't ignore it- at least she couldn't ignore Hawkspirit. She suddenly thought of all the love she had felt for him. And took a deep breath.
"I love you, Hawkspirit. But I know you love Ebonyblaze. But I love you. You don't have to love me. Just know I love you." she let the tears fall, forming a bigger puddle then the rain.

Hawkspirit felt the rain hit his pelt with a stinging that stung deeper than his skin. Hawk listened to Cheetah's sad, sad words and looked at the sky, biting his lip till it bled. The taste in his mouth was bitter as the red liquid swam onto his tongue. He bent his head and sat for several minutes in the rain, Cheetahfur crying. Then, he looked at her and padded up next to her. He laid down with her and comforted her. But this comforting had an aura of a friend, not of love.

"Oh, Cheetah...there's nothing wrong with you...I just...have this special feeling around Ebonyblaze that I just don't feel when I'm with you...but, you're still one of my best friends I've ever had." Hawkspirit had to have been straight with her. It would've been too hard to lie, especially to Cheetah. He looked at Cheetahfur and smiled.

Cheetahfur gave him a small smile.
"I understand. I'm happy for you, Hawkspirit. I'm sorry things didn't work out diffrently. But I guess I just wasn't in you path from CloudClan." She reached up to touch his nose with hers.
"I hope you an Ebonyblaze will be happy together. I'll just.... Find someone else who sparks the same feeling." she meowed bittersweetly. "But note, this still doesn't make me and Ebonyblaze friends." she looked up at him with sad eyes. "I'm sorry. I just can't stand her."

Hawkspirit smiled, happy she understood. But then, his smile dropped. He avoided her gaze. "I'm sorry you two can't be friends..." Hawk had really wished that they could all get along, but life didn't work that way. Cloud Clan had too much fun adding drama to their lives.

Cheetahfur rested her head on Hawkspirit's shoulder for a brief moment. "But you have competition now. Adderstone came back." she looked up at him. "Good luck with him." she meowed.

Hawk smiled a little. "I know. He can be a handful, but I think Ebonyblaze will really decide who she loves..." Hawkspirit trailed off, not wanting to think about what would happen if Ebony didn't choose him.

Cheetahfur gazed at the orange sunset and thought of the great animals she was named after. She turned again to look at Hawkspirit. This was one of the only times - the ONLY time when... perfect. There's no way to describe it. Perfect.
