Taking in a deep breath, Matana swallowed any overwhelming emotions she had about this idea of hers. Now, she would face all fears that made her shake like a pup. It was the time that she would speak to Rueff and brace herself for heartbreak. All this time she had been running away form the fear that he would no longer love her. Holding on to hope that things could go back to how they were. Those happy days when they had first fallen in love and the would seem to be at peace. Why was she a fool? Why did she leave? It was time she payed for the crimes she had done against the black male in which she still gave her heart. This was the time for him to strike his revenge for all those seasons of pain.
--------------------------------------------------
Matana had searched around and got word that Rueff was an alpha of a new formed pack that was growing in size, really growing. She also heard that there was an alpha female, but Matana knew nothing about her other then the fact her name was Yechta. As for her relationship with Rueff, the black female new nothing. When she found out about Rueff, she also discovered the pack's grounds. So, there she sat close to camp to where the black male could hear her call she waited. Trying to muster all her strength to call him, to see him, to hear his voice, to take in his scent, to be around him once more. So, taking a deep breath, Matana raised her black snout to the air and howled a soft and gentle howl. She howled a few times and then fell silent. She waited in a clearing under the moon and the stars to see if he would show.

A challenger? An ally? All he knew was a trespasser.
Pounding paws, big and black and powerful. Just like him. A snarl erupted from his bared jaws. Wired to kill.
And then he stopped. His snarl turned to a sneer. Look who it was.
And then emotions kind of swelled up inside him. Hate, love, redemption. Confusion. He kept his eye trained slightly north of her ears. He shouldn't look. He couldn't look at her, or he might pounce.
Or he might break.
" You are a trespasser on the tundras of the Amaryllis pack. Explain your intentions or leave "
He bared his teeth and let loose another snarl, but his mouth turned up in the corners. It was a sneer. A vicious, spiteful sneer.
He wasn't thin and brittle anymore. He had four working legs, though no matter how hard he exercised it his wounded one gave him constant, irreversible pain. Still one eye, still one ear, but he would hear from two
And he was strong. Thick rods of muscle had built up over a short period of time.
He could snap her like a twig

Matana seemed to hold her breath when she saw him. His handsome black form causing her heart to freeze with loving fear. All the emotions, good and bad, hit her lick a full powered elk. All she wanted to do was tackle him to the ground and cover him loving licks, but she knew better. So, she stayed where she sat and just gazed at him. Taking all his magnificence like it was the last time she would ever see it. "I came to see you Rue. Look how far you've come. I recall when you were just an omega and I was walking all over you." The female gave a chuckle that was weak and almost made her break down into tears. "Now you are an alpha of a growing pack. You are strong and fearful."
--------------------------------------------------
Matana too had changed. Her time as a longer gained her more muscle and naturally being a larger female made her look tough. She had many knew beauty scars on her body, a shiner running right down her face. One of her ears was shredded but still worked well. Yet, what changed the most about Matana was her atmosphere. It was more gentle and opening. The old Matana was snap at anyone who even dare come into eye shot of her. Always looking for a fight and never letting her pride drop below the clouds. Her head was lower, almost even with her shoulders, her tail was tucked in close to her body and her ears flat against her head.
--------------------------------------------------
Matana came to notice that he wasn't really looking at her, just past her. So, her soft honey brown eyes were left to scan his form once more. "So....how is alpha life treating you?"

Rueff let go another growl. He bared his teeth and screwed his eye shut, trying to drown her out. Shut up, shut up, shut UP!
" State your business or leave Stranger"
Rueff pulled his paw up to his muzzle and dug in his claws, taking comfort in the pain. Clearing his head. The familiar warmth ran down his face. He took a deep breath, his facade faltering. Breathe in, breathe out. And he opened his eyes, staring at the ground before her paws. A manic smile broke across his face.
" Did you decide to crawl back when I had power, hmm? Are you looking for security? Are you looking for fame? Power? Authority? You're in the wrong place. I wouldn't recommend staying too long. It's heard to leave. But, then again, you're pretty good at that! "
He chuckled under his breath. Where was her brother? It wasn't like her to go anywhere without him
But it was like her to go somewhere

Matana lowered her gaze when he began to scold her. This was what she was expecting, but no matter how much she prepared herself it still hurt. The scent of crimson iron made her head launch up. "Rue don't!" The female didn't want to see him get hurt and it made it worse he was doing it to himself. Without realizing it, she had stood up and took a step closer to him. It bothered her that he wasn't looking her in the eyes, she wanted him to look at her not what was around. Then he began to list all the things that described a greedy wolf seeking power. With every suggestion he made she shook her head in denial. "No Rue. I didn't come seeking power. I came seeking love." Matana kept stepping closer and closer to him. She didn't know if it was because he still had feelings or was holding back his rage within. No matter what happened she wanted to be closer to him, she had to be closer to him. She wanted to take him in one more time. This was most likely her last time to take in his scent and his voice, she had to remember it all.

He watched her paws step closer, and he took a step back, looking up as he did so. And he wanted to step forwards. He wanted to rest his muzzle in the crook of her neck and breathe her in. He watched her honey brown eyes, full of hope and worry. And so he looked away. He watched the beautiful poppies swirl in the light wind to the left, their dark seeds carried away by the wind.
" How many times are you going to leave? Leave me alone to starve? I'm not leaving you for a single wolf inside that pack, Matana "
He winced at the sound of her name. The way his words carried across the beautiful tundra. He squeezed his eye shut and relished the growl building in his throat. He wish he'd never said it, but he carried on.
" I have a home now. A family! I can walk because of SOMEONE ELSE! And you weren't there "
He was not leaving his life behind, so Matana could leave him behind again. But he wouldn't leave Amaryllis. And he couldn't leave Yechta. But he didn't think he could do what Matana did. To leave her behind. He turned away. His shoulders hunched - defeated.
" You either join my life, or leave it "
And he started back to camp

"Rue, I ask that you give me another chance. I know I've done you wrong and have left you to suffer alone, but I want to make it all up. I want to the spend the rest of my days with you, till my heart stops and I take my final breath." As she stepped closer he seemed to back up, but that didn't stop her from stepping even closer. She listened to all the wonderful things that entered his life and she was happy for him, but she didn't like the fact that he was speaking of Yechta so directly, but not. When he turned his back to her and began to walk back to his camp her leaped. 'You either join my life, or leave it' Did this mean he would give her another chance? Could he love her like he did before? Dashing to his side, she stayed close and looked at him with sweet honey brown eyes that seemed to be overflowing with love. "Does that mean yes?" Matana's voice was full of hope and glee, that small bit of hope she had been holding onto was growing quickly and showing in the atmosphere around her.

Rueff grunted in response. Urg, why was it so hard to let go. He kept his head bowed as he walked.
" It's not my job to try anymore. It's my job to keep 11 wolves in order "
11, not 12. Yechta didn't need to "stay in order". He wondered where Yechta stood in his life. And now he was wondering where Matana stood.
" I'm not looking for drama, and I'm not looking for love. I'm looking for wolves to protect my pack and keep them thriving. Because that is my life. I'm not looking for a stupid soap opera. Take it, or leave it "

Matana walked by his side trying to figure out what to do. The female didn't really care for his pack and would find it funny if they all died of starvation, but she did want to be part of his life again. So in order to be part of it she would have to join his pack. Letting out a sigh, she looked at Rueff hoping it would help make a choice. Maybe she was wrong. Perhaps he didn't love her, but didn't want her to feel the pain she caused him, yet that would be the revenge he should be seeking. If he knew it or not, he could shatter her right where they stood with only a few words. Of course, Matana want Rueff's affections, but clearly was not going to get them as soon as she wanted. Maybe time with him would change his mind. "Rue... can I ask you something?" This time Matana didn't look at the black male as she spoke, he seemed to better when she wasn't looking.

Rueff just sighed.
" Fire away "
Rueff stared at him paws, big mitts of black, with long, dark, protruding claws. The more he stared, the bonier they looked. He watched them crush the beautiful petals beneath them, stirring golden wads of pollen into the air. It was just a few broken flowers, but he felt like he was leaving a wake of devastation.
He was slumped, defeated. He thought he had gotten over this, but he was painfully wrong. Finally, new beginnings. He could be self-reliant if he wanted to. He could survive. He and Yechta were the heads of a community.
And then Matana showed. And he wasn't sure he wanted to know the question

Matana thought for a moment, wondering if she should really ask her question or just leave it alone. Taking in a sigh she choice to speak, "Do you want me around?" Looking at her paws, she waited for him to reply. As she looked at the ground she noticed the many flowers that she was hitting with her paws. Golden flacks came rising in the air and right to Matana's nose as she breathed. Twitching her nose she let out a small sneeze. 'Why are there so many flowers?' Matana would have preferred an open golden grass land with lots of rocks. It would be like the place she grew up in a small pack hunting with her brothers, Kodi and Blackfire. If anything she would have settled for a forest, but all these flowers gave her a headache and made her sneeze like no other. If she did join the pack she would need something to cover her nose with and her eyes too.

Rueff hesitated at that. He missed the way he would curl up to her, feel the warm of her pelt through his. Like he did with Yechta. He missed the way they would walk side-by-side, he missed the way they would hunt. But it was never really lovey-dovey with them, was it? It was he would save her, and she would save him. Matana was his means of coping, and he guessed he was hers.
He snarled in frustration. He could lie. He could save her feelings, or crush them. But he couldn't do it, couldn't lie. He scowled at the ground and answered truthfully,
" Yes. But I shouldn't. And I won't "
He screwed up his face to prevent himself from smiling as Matana sniffed the pollen and sneezed. Smiling was so easy, so natural. So was laughing. They were both so... un-Rueff, but they were two actions he'd grown accustomed to, it was kind of hard to suppress.
He used to be like Matana about the flowers. The scent was overwhelming, the pollen used to fill his lungs, and the territory was impractical. But he put up with it, because Yechta saved his life. And he grew used to it

Matana turned to look at him only to find his crooked face. The way he tried to hide his smile made him look funny, but Matana found it cute actually. The black female let out a cheerful and lighthearted giggle, "Rue you really shouldn't make such a face, you will scare pups away." The she-wold lightly teased him and giggled some more before calming down and just smiling. Matana couldn't help, but find her gaze resting upon the handsome black male. Thought many of his features were gone or broken, she still saw him as the most perfect creator alive, so beautiful. The more she gazed at him the more she was captivated. Her mind went blank and she stepped closer to his side. Pressing her head against his strong shoulder, she took in his scent. The warmth his body gave brought her such comfort, it was unlike anything else, not even her brother could provide this comfort. "I've missed you Rue," Matana said with a weak helpless voice.

Rueff sped up a little, brushing Matana off like nothing happened. He just stated dead ahead, at the dip in the flowers. The small, cave ridden clearing. He didn't know what he was feeling. He wasn't sure he wanted to know. He just growled when Matana spoke. He missed the way her voice sounded. He shouldn't. But he did. And he hated himself for it
" Don't tell me what to do "
He breathed in deeply through his nose. Calming himself. He felt the pollen swirl in his lungs, and he didn't care anymore. He cared about Nero, and Yechta. He wondered if she knew about Yechta. Then he realised, how did she know about him?
" How did you know where to find me? "

Matana felt her heart drop as he pulled away from her and picked up his speed. Her tail fell limp and her ears pressed against her head. Honey brown eyes falling to the ground where she followed him. "I was only teasing Rue." Matana tried to speak, but her voice seemed to be stuck in her throat. She was disappointed. Was this how it was going to be? If she joined the pack would he always turned a cold shoulder to her? Of course, Yechta would then have rights to order her around and would always keep her away from Rueff. This isn't what Matana wanted. If she had a chance to get Rueff back she would do anything for it. Yet, he was denying all of her. He said he wanted her around, but he didn't show it. Yechta told her to leave and stay away saying he was happy now. It made her sick thinking of the two wolves sharing a nest and being so close.
--------------------------------------------------
"I asked around. It wasn't hard to get information about a growing pack in these parts. Besides, I ran into your alpha female and your beta Lagoon." Matana didn't look at Rueff anymore, her head just hung low and her pace seemed to become slower. She was starting to regret the idea of joining the pack. This was painful enough, if she had to see them together she might just break. Matana came her expecting everything to end, but Rueff didn't run her off. Maybe he was welcoming her only to crush her in the end. Even if he didn't plan for it, it was working anyway. 'He doesn't want me around. He has a new female, he loves her and her flower self. Face it Matana, you've lost to a little pup of a wolf.' Matana finally came to a stop and refused to take another step.
