VEX OF DEATHCLAN It was still raining as Vex trotted through the forest during one dreary afternoon. There had been a bad storm the previous night - thunder and lightning split the air almost constantly, and it was a good thing that the heavy downpour had prevented any serious fires. But the royal could still see some damage when she looked around. One particular tree, a once-majestic spruce, was now a charred husk. Vex padded over and started sniffing around the roots curiously.
She was so enthralled by this task that she didn't hear the pawsteps behind her. WORDS: 094 || WRITTEN FOR: Anyone NOTES - Reposting this since the original one died with no replies. template by Margie @ Adoxography v2

bringing Dove back to life<3
It was raining and Dove could not be any happier. She took a leap into a puddle, splashing the murky water everywhere around. Her once clean coat was now a complete disaster - silver to brown. She was near a strange looking tree. It looked like it seriously fought quite a battle in last night's storm and saw a silver tabby approach the tree too. "I don't know if I feel worse for the tree, or the cats who fear water." she mewed, not minding her soaking body.

VEX OF DEATHCLAN Startled by the sudden appearance of Dove, the bobtailed feline spun around, damp fur bristling. She forced herself to relax upon recognizing the other royal. "Gave me a fright. Dove, isn't it? Drought told me about you - I'm Vex."
With that, she turned and resumed her examination of the scorched tree. "Bit of a shame," she murmured to herself. WORDS: 059 || WRITTEN FOR: Dove NOTES - n/a template by Margie @ Adoxography v2

Dove didn't notice that the cat was startled, or she did not acknowledge it. The tree was for more of a bigger interest to her. The tabby's ear perked, hearing her name addressed. Hmm? How did she know her name? "Drought told you, huh?" she asked to herself. "Meaning that you're a royal too?"
She was gone in the plains for so long that she almost forgot how quickly ranks and aging could change. Just like the raining weather. . .

VEX OF DEATHCLAN Her ears twitched, and Vex spoke again. "Yeah, I guess I am. He seems to have taken a liking to me for some reason…" She trailed off into silence. It was hard to say why the leader kept her around - she wasn't bloodthirsty, really, just opportunistic and violent if cornered. Maybe it was the fact that she'd killed that one apprentice? Or perhaps he was using her. Drought's motives were indecipherable as always.
A scratching noise dragged the grey tabby out of her thoughts. It seemed like they had company. And sure enough, seconds later, a pair of large and bedraggled rodents emerged from the bushed behind the charred tree.
"Rats!" Vex hissed as she took a step back. Judging by the malicious gleam in their dark eyes, these two were looking for a fight. WORDS: 135 || WRITTEN FOR: Dove NOTES - Everything's curious about the lightning tree, not just the cats. template by Margie @ Adoxography v2

Dove wouldn't have reacted quick enough to the rats if Vex did not give out her warning. Her pelt rose and teeth bared. She did not have to use her combat skills in so long that she feared that they were a bit raw and ancient. Half of her wanted to flee, but what would that do? Bring more cats in danger and Vex would report Dove's potential disloyalty.
Instead of taking a step back, the tabby stepped in front of the younger royal. 'Well this isn't going to end up well.' She couldn't imagine her pelt getting drenched with blood - rat blood to make things worse, but it was better than putting the whole clan in danger.
She did not wait for the rodents to strike first - she would be the on the offensive. This was Deathclan's land. A dumb move it could have been seen as, separating herself and Vex, but she went after the larger of the two rodents with tooth and claw.

VEX OF DEATHCLAN Well, it sure was a good thing that Dove hadn't fled. Vex's battle skills were somewhat sub-par. Ironic, seeing as she was part of a group that practically mandated combat, but the techniques just didn't come naturally to her. She preferred using trickery to win her fights.
Ignoring the urge to climb a tree or otherwise get some distance, the younger female moved as soon as Dove attacked. She hissed, circling the smaller rat. Though it could hardly be called small. The ghastly thing was bigger than the average squirrel. When it tried to nip at Vex, she retaliated by slashing its nose and backing up.
It took nearly a minute of fighting for the royal to find an opening. She ripped the rat's flank open with one clean slash. As it lay there dying, Vex turned to see whether her fellow DeathClanner needed help. WORDS: 145 || WRITTEN FOR: Dove NOTES - n/a template by Margie @ Adoxography v2

Almost getting bite on her front paw, Dove jumped in the air, avoiding the encounter. One bite and her leg could be lost for good. She would have to be quick on her toes. It was a method of pushing the rat out of the plants and into the open. That way, there would be no advantage for either creature.
The rat bit onto the tabby's shoulder, clinging onto Dove and she shrieked, taken by surprise. Large, she would have expected it to be rather clumsy, but it was even more energetic out here, angry that it was pulled out of the darkness. Dove hissed and pounced onto the rodent, holding it down with her weight, teeth locking its neck. She remained in that position, grunting as the rat tried to fight off the cat's weight, but with each struggle, Dove bit harder, giving the rat a harder time to breath until it dropped to the ground.
Good. That was done. She looked around for Vex, seeing that her ally defeated their enemy too. "That wasn't too bad," she proclaimed, though the tabby was in fact shocked that they won with such rusty skills.

VEX OF DEATHCLAN It looked like Dove was just about done dispatching her rat by the time Vex finished. She sat down, breathing a bit heavily - it probably would've been best to check for other enemies, but the fight had worn her out.
"Yeah, could've been worse. You alright?" The tabby eyed the other royal's shoulder, which had apparently been bitten. Vex wasn't unscathed, herself, but she'd managed to avoid the rodent's teeth. Which was definitely for the best. Their mouths tended to carry all sorts of nasty diseases. WORDS: 086 || WRITTEN FOR: Dove NOTES - n/a template by Margie @ Adoxography v2

Dove nodded, not wanting to show her pain even though her shoulder felt like it was on fire. Although the two fought together, to show weakness in Deathclan was something that could be easily used against her. She'd have to patch herself up and soon. When Vex was gone of course.
"Couldn't be any better," she responded, wincing as she caught onto where Vex was staring at. "For the safety of the younglings, we should prowl around. Rats usually live in colonies and those were probably just two strays."

VEX OF DEATHCLAN Vex raised a fictional eyebrow but didn't press the topic. DeathClanners were fiercely individualistic by nature. It was probably stupid to expect Dove to do anything other than deny that she wan't entirely fine. That was just the way things worked here.
"Yeah. Let's head towards Twolegplace?" She guessed that the rats had come from there, so it would make sense to search in that direction. The tabby silently hoped that they didn't run into any more trouble - as much as they were obliged to keep enemies out of DeathClan, the huge rodents always unnerved her. Dove nodded. The Twolegplace was somewhere familiar to her. She was raised there most of her kithood and some period before getting recruited by Viper. There was a moment of hesitation, wanting to admit to her pain as she kept moving her shoulder, but bit her tongue in attempts to just show her pride.
"I can't wait to see what we find," she commented, trying to lighten the mood. "We might not even run into the rat's but the food that kittypets usually eat. It's not that bad, considering how it wasn't fresh kill."

VEX OF DEATHCLAN Knowing that there could be more rats around every twist and turn that DeathClan's forest had to offer, Vex was on edge as they padded along. She nearly jumped when Dove spoke. Hoping that the other female hadn't paid it any mind, she replied, not taking her eyes off their surroundings.
"Hmm. I'd sooner eat Twoleg scraps, personally - that stuff they feed kittypets is practically inedible. I've seen it. Can't believe any self-respecting cat would tolerate it." Her tone was more of a mutter than anything. She'd spent enough time in Twolegplace already to know how things were around there.
