From the shadows of a patch of thick underbrush, blue eyes shone faintly, revealing the location of a feline. The eyes vanished, and then a black tom lumbered out from the darkness. He had a look of pride about him, head held high and tail swinging as he padded along, paws silently falling upon the grass and lifting again just a few moments later. The only thing disrupting his cover in the darkness of the night was his underbelly, swathed over in pure white fur, which he revealed as he took a seat at the base of a tree and lifted a black paw, licking it thoughtfully. The tips of his ears also looked like they'd been dipped in snow, flicking as he listened to the sounds of the forest. The tom wondered if he'd happen across another cat on this shadowy night.

She was young, her figure small, and her eyes grey much like her figure that also happened to be blotched with black. There wasn't much to her, no story, no relations, nothing. Just a living, breathing, she-cat by the name of Unity, the one thing she had held onto from her parents. Wherever they had gone.
It was night, she should've been finding a cave or a bush, some place to sleep. But she wasn't tired, and much of the prey was nocturnal. So there she was, following a creek that shown silver by the light of the moon when movement caught her attention. If there hadn't been white on the tom she would have never noticed he was even there, the rest of him jet black like the color of shadow. Without a moment's hesitation the she-cat bounded into the reeds beside her, keeping a silver gaze upon the tom.
To her dismay his own blue gaze was trained directly towards her, and when you were a loner it wasn't smart to trust anyone.

The tom's head twitched when he spotted something grey and black moving about, moonlight glinting off of fur. He tilted his head, a small smirk lighting up his expression. "I know you're over there." He called softly to the she-cat hiding in the nearby reeds, his voice smooth and quiet. "Come on out, I won't bite." His tail flicked back and forth as he awaited the other cat's reaction. His white patches made him appear almost ghostly in the shadow.

Her muscles, tense. Not to mention quivering. Unity had never been the brave type, sticking to the shadows, avoiding the gazes of other cats and trying her hardest to kill her scent. But now she was spotting, and the tom was strolling over, looking almost ghostly in the moonlight.
Standing up she tried to make herself look larger by extending her plume, but her kit fur had not completely left her pelt. She looked even younger than she was. Within noticing this she backed down, shrinking again with her ears laid against her head and eyes staring wide into the icy blue eyes above her.
"I... I... I can leave." She stuttered, backing up ever so slightly until she reached the water's edge. Only realizing she had after her paw sank into the mud. Today was not a day she wanted to die, but she saw no way out. If she ran, he would surely catch her. His long legs more than making up for the distance her short ones could make.

He laughed gently. "Oh, dear, I'm not planning on staining my claws, you know." He explained, stretching. He reached his front paws as far out in front of him as he could, and yawned. Then he took a few cautious steps closer. His blue eyes shone like sapphires, clearly showing in his expression that he wasn't being completely honest in his kindness. He didn't seem interested in trying to hide it, though. "I'm Kot. And you?" He sat down, curling his tail around his legs, waiting patiently for a reply.

He seemed calm, but there was almost a tiny hint of hostility under his kind voice. Almost like, if she tried to run a sharp paw-full of claws would easily tear through her pelt like that of a razor. That of which she would rather not find out. So instead she contemplated her options, way she saw it was that she could run and die, or stay and possibly live.
Sighing she put on her act, letting the emotion drain from her body as her eyes turned a dull silver. No longer shining or glowing in the dark but glinting almost demonically from her small figure. "My name?" She mewed, her voice all but suddenly turning to stone. "Unity."
Standing up straightly and as tall as she could she moved forward, sitting directly before the tom with her fear suddenly gone. "Unity, of this most..." The warrior paused for a minute, trying to think up something clever, "barren forest."

Kot tilted his head in confusion at her sudden change in attitude. He wasn't quite sure what had passed over the cat, but he played along. "Unity? Interesting." He smiled. "And this is indeed a rather barren place, hm?" He gazed around, studying his surroundings. "Do you live around this area?" He turned back to her, eyes sparkling with curiosity.

Unity sat before a minute, staring up at the tom with her un-breaking gaze then closed her eyes as she licked a forepaw and brought it over her head. "Eh," The young she-cat mewed, shrugging and getting to her paws.
Walking around to the back of the tom she circled him as she continued her conversation, any trace of fear before hand gone. Unity had all the reason to be afraid. She had absolutely no fighting skills whatsoever, she could barely hunt for herself, and her ribs were basically stuck to her pelt. But she kept the same way she had been. Fear was a sign of weakness, and she would rather not get any weaker than she already was.
"I don't really live anywhere. I'm more of a nomad." And this was the plain and simple truth. Never being able to find herself settling down somewhere, the silver cat loved to travel.

"Then there's a trait we have in common," Kot purred. "I also don't have a strict place I call me home. As long as I find shelter for the night I'm happy." This wasn't the whole truth, however. He did have a home, but if he shared the fact that he was part of the group known as DeathClan, he was positive that it wouldn't garner a positive response. The part of that statement that held truth was that he was indeed pleased if he could find safety for the night in the dangerous territory he called home. He spun his head around to watch as the silver cat circled him, solid blue eyes only leaving her pelt for a fraction of a second as she passed out of his viewing range and he snapped his head around to continue watching.

Sighing she ceased her circling and moved down to the rivers edge, looking into the shining water and stared into her own reflection. It was quite pitiful. All the other loners had muscle, they were more built and ready for the Leaf-bare that was only a few seasons away. Unity sighed and let her haunches meet the ground in a sitting position, her pointy shoulder-blades sticking out of her back.
"It's a lonely life." She admitted, running her claws through the current. "Not knowing anyone, sticking to ourselves, surviving on our own."
The she-cat folded her ears along her head, her eyes dulling.

He lowered his head sadly. "Indeed it is," he agreed with a frown. There was one thing he could be truthful about; he loved having company. He just preferred to get into mischief whenever he did have the chance to make a friend. Oh well, he didn't regret the trouble he'd caused, so it didn't matter. "Never being able to trust another cat... It's quite sad." He lifted his chin again, watching Unity as she gazed into the river.

Unity nodded, trust was something that was very VERY hard to find, especially in loners who used any asset they had just to stay alive. She had known of cats who would pretend to be your friend but would then turn around and slice your throat merely for a vole. This happened especially when the cold seasons came around, when there was literally a fight for any type of resource, even water.
"Well at least I have your company for a spared moment." Breaking from her deep thought the loner got to her paws and turned around to face the tom, no longer having her back towards him which was a terrible idea in the first place.
"Why don't we go do something, I don't know what exactly. But while I'm still around, while you're still around." Unity suggested, a warm smirk spreading slowly across her pearly whites.

Kot got to his paws. "Oh? And what would you suggest doing?" He asked, cocking his head to the side. "What all is there to do?" He rephrased the question, stretching quickly and then standing up straight. He was tall and fairly thin, but his fluffy black shoulders were broad. He was built to move fast. He watched her through solid sapphire orbs, waiting for her to decide upon an activity.

The feline stared directly back at him, her silver eyes unbreaking as she thought deeply. There really wasn't much to do together, being a loner was really about survival rather than fun and games. It was about making allies and trying to keep as far away from the bigger cat and rouge clans as possible. Staying off the Clan Cat's territory and sparing as much of your own blood as possible.
Hmm... how about..." She trailed, biting her lip and breaking her cold gaze as she looked down upon her paws, moving them below her chest.
"Ever go swimming?"

"Swimming?" He asked, flicking his ears. He hadn't been expecting that. "Yes, I've been swimming. The water can be nice, especially in the scorching heat of the summer. Wouldn't you agree?" He walked over, sitting at the riverbank, watching it sluggishly flow past. He looked at his distorted reflection, partially obscured by moonlight. All he could really make out was his rough silhouette and a hint of dark blue that was his eyes.
