Meeting Others

[Silvercloud]

Silverkit sat quietly at the edge of camp, watching as cats passed her on their way to their duties. She was bored! There was never anything to do in this clan, and the kits she played with were asleep. She sighed, shook the snow off her pelt and padded towards the nursery. 
Suddenly, she felt something at her paws. She had almost walked into some cat! 'I'm so sorry!" she mewed softly. 

[Snap-paw]

Snapkit's large eyes blinked up at the kit, and an easy smile flashed across his face immediately. "Why apologize? You didn't end up doing anything wrong." He stood, shaking out his brown and white pelt with a gleeful laugh. "I should be thanking you! If you hadn't almost walked into me, I wouldn't have met you, after all."

[Silvercloud]

SIlverkit twitched her ears in embarrassment. Great, even when i'm trying to make friends I still embarrass myself. She wanted so badly to make friends with other cats.
Then she heard the cat's second sentence. Immediately, she perked up. The cat wanted to meet her. Wow! She mustn't mess this up.
"Well, I suppose. Thanks and I'm delighted to meet you. I'm Silverkit." She mewed shyly. 

[Snap-paw]

Snapkit laughed, quickly filing away the name so as not to forget it. Silverkit. He glanced over her black pelt and laughed again quietly. Perhaps there was another reason behind her name. "Snapkit. It's nice to meet you, Silverkit." He nodded rapidly a few times. "What's up?"

[Silvercloud]

Silverkit blinked her sliver-speckled eyes. This cat seemed nice. But Silverkit could hear him laughing quietly. She wondered if she had a leaf stuck in her pelt. Nope, not a leaf, she decided, after a quick sweep of her pelt.
"The sky. What else?" If this cat wanted to ask such a ridiculous question, she would answer it. (Silverkit is not particularly well versed in lingo)

[Snap-paw]

At Silverkit's words, Snapkit looked up before remembering he was inside the den. "Oh, right!" He bolted outside then looked up again, his eyes widening. "I had forgotten," the brown and white cat breathed quietly. "The sky is so beautiful." He turned and beamed at Silverkit. "Right?"

[Silvercloud]

Silverkit blinked up at the sky. MRROW! It hurt to stare directly at the sun. Silverkit supposed that she should have known that, but in her excitement, she had forgotten.
"Yes, the sky is amazing. I used to sit by it at night and stare at CloudClan. I'd like to think they're watching us." Silverkit mewed, lost in her thoughts.

[Snap-paw]

- Serious or joking about what?? -

Starclan, huh? It was strange that Silverkit had thought of that, or perhaps it was strange that Snapkit had instead thought of the Darkpool. Maybe that was only because Edgekit had mentioned it only the other day. "Just at night? I prefer sunrise, or maybe sunset......Hmmm, perhaps both? That would be awesome, if we combined them!"

[Silvercloud]

Silverkit was startled out of her thoughts by Snapkit's mew. She was possibly one of the few cats who hated the sunrise and sunset. To her it had always seemed like fire, like the sky was burning up and the CloudClan warriors were burning in it. She would have thought of the Darkpool cats, but she had been told that if she thought of them, they would haunt her dreams. She shook her head vigorously to get rid of those thoughts. They were a simple kit fantasy, nothing more.
"Well, I suppose. But I think that combining the birth and death of a new day would be quite weird. I suppose I'm more of a night cat."

(Normally in real life answering the sky to what's up is a joke and will receive a joking reply? It's okay it's irrelevant now)

Snapkit was still purring, his mind still on the same peach and purple tones that constructed the sunrise, and his mind had wandered while Silverkit spoke. "Very weird!" He agreed, though still felt it was a fine idea at heart. "The night is beautiful too, definitely. I like making shapes out of the stars; my own shapes." He almost wished it was night now, so he could see it again for himself. Though thankfully, Snapkit was quite patient.

Silverkit thought longingly of the night sky. It was dotted with so many stars, she knew that if she looked hard enough she could see pictures. It had never occurred to her to try to make her own pictures. She had always only known the ones her mother had spoke of. Maybe if I look long enough, I'll be able to see my own destiny in the stars. 
"That idea had never occurred to me. I'll try it, I think. Maybe it will be more magical than staring at cold meaningless patterns. I almost wish it were nighttime so I could do it now. Say, why don't we meet at sunset one day and find the patterns in the stars together?"

[Snap-paw]

Snapkit was surprised by the offer, though he was definitely not going to turn it down. "I'd love that, so long as you're not annoyed by my company." He supposed it took a certain kind of imagination to stray away from what had already been determined, and in a sense he thought that of Cloudclan's teachings too. What if he could use his imagination to find new rules and beliefs? After all, Cloudclan had made the rules one time. "Tonight?"

[Silvercloud]

Silverkit liked this cat. He seemed to be a thoughtful, interesting cat. Well, she hoped at least. "Of course I'm not annoyed. I wouldn't have suggested it if I were! Tonight sounds good."
She wondered how Snapkit thought of the shapes that he did. It seemed so difficult to think beyond the star shapes that she already knew. But she also knew, somewhere deep down, that she had to. For the first cats had to have made star shapes on their own, and who was to say that she couldn't make her own star shapes! Maybe Snapkit had simply never learnt the original shapes. But that made it easier for him to think of new shapes. Maybe, things are easier to change when you have no impression of them in the first place. Well, she hoped that, even with an impression, she could still see the myriad of new possibilities, even as she knew that she must never lose sight of the old ones.

[Snap-paw]

"Ah well, it's always good to check." He flattened his ears bashfully, but still managed to return Silverkit's smile. Perhaps this instance would be the first time he'd make a friend. The notion was foreign to him, as even though he was friendly and open by nature, he'd never had a friend before. "Then tonight it is. I'll meet you back here, ok? I think I'll sleep now, so I'll have plenty of energy to stay up all night!" With a brief nod of farewell he disappeared back into the nursery.

Silverkit mewed a cheerful farewell back at Snapkit, and padded back into the nursery. She was filled with hope at the new friend she seemed to have made. Maybe, with Snapkit, she could explore what could have been. He was a good friend to have.

TIMESKIP

Silverkit waited alone in the biting cold of the night. The stars were clearly visible in the sky, shining brightly down on the IceClan camp. The howling wind ruffled her fur as she sat waiting for Snapkit. I hope he comes. Surely he wouldn't leave me waiting here alone. But she had faith in the other kit.
