 ADDERPAW OF ICECLAN It was a breezy day in IceClan, and the camp was pretty quiet that afternoon. Everyone seemed to be out in the territory or staying cozy in their dens. Leaf-fall here was not quite as pleasant as it might be in a different Clan - the chill in the air spoke of the fact that leafbare was soon to come.
Huffing slightly, a pale tabby apprentice stepped into camp after his solo hunting trip. A large and rather dead viper was draped across his back like some strange ornament. He wasn't sure if anyone ate snakes here, really, but it was time to find out.

Shadekit jumped in surprise, shaken from his inspection of a strange patch of plants by a loud shout at the other side of the camp. Peering around the rock he'd found the plants by, the bright eyed kit found the source of the noise to be an older tom, an apprentice by the looks of it. Curiosity piqued, both by the cat and the strange animal he had slung over his back, the little tom scurried over to investigate, eyes dancing with curiosity. "What's that you've got on your back?" he asked, sniffing at the thin, sinuous form laying prone on the other tom's back. "And why are you yelling? Are you angry?" he added, circling around the cat to look up into his eyes.

ADDERPAW OF ICECLAN It didn't take long at all before a young kitten was approaching, little paws pattering along. Adderpaw arched his back so the dead snake slid off and landed right in front of Shadekit. "It's a viper," Adder responded flatly. "Want some?" The queens would almost certainly not approve of the apprentice doing this, which just made him even more determined to give this kitten a taste of snake.
Adder twitched his ears upon hearing the second question. "Because I feel like it. And normally yes, I tend to be angry, but I'm not really right now. Might change if you keep asking pointless questions." WORDS: 104 || WRITTEN FOR: Shadekit NOTES - n/a template by Margie @ Adoxography v2 |

The little tom narrowed his eyes indignantly up at the apprentice, annoyed at the other cat's attitude. "There's no such thing as pointless questions," he said defiantly, flicking his ears in irritation. His attention was quickly drawn to the strange animal- a viper, the tabby had called it- and his expression quickly reverted back to curiosity. Sniffing at the scaly hide of the dead prey, Shadekit hesitantly took a bite; though the texture was odd, he found he liked the taste. Looking back to the older tom, he said, "Thanks! Its really good," and took another bite to emphasize his point. "I'm Shadekit, by the way," he added after he'd swallowed, all traces of agitation cleared from his bright amber stare. "Who are you?"

ADDERPAW OF ICECLAN "Yes there are," said the tabby with a twinge of irritation. Clanborn cats really did seem fond of aimless chatter. Things were different where he came from - and Adderpaw didn't plan on changing his own habits anytime soon. He was stubborn like that.
Surprisingly, Shadekit seemed to like the snake. The apprentice nodded to himself. He'd never eaten his namesake personally, but maybe he'd have to try it one day.

Shadekit bobbed his head at the introduction, then cocked his head to the side, perusing his memories for any mention of a Viperkit. "No, I don't think so. I feel bad for him, though," he said after a moment, his sentiments genuine; being a kit didn't allow for a lot of... anything, really. That, combined with the knowledge that your brother was already an apprentice, would surely cause this Viperkit some understandable annoyance. "If he's as loud as you, I'm sure I'll find him soon enough," he added, immediately biting his tongue afterword; he wasn't sure how much Adderpaw would appreciate the gibe, though he had meant it in a friendly manner. Shrugging, the little tom noted that it had already been said, and waited to see how the apprentice would take it.

ADDERPAW OF ICECLAN Hmm, that was a shame. Adderpaw hoped Viper wasn't lonely in the nursery - nobody seemed to know him, which must mean that the kitten didn't talk to many cats.
He immediately snapped out of his thoughts when Shade commented. "Excuse me? You haven't even heard me being loud," hissed the former rogue, fur bristling a bit. Apart from that one yowl he might have actually been setting a record for least noise made in a day. Too bad that was probably going to change now. Ah, well, should have expected that, Shadekit thought to himself, cringing away from the bristling tom. "Right. Of course I haven't; I didn't mean to offend you," he remarked. It was true, of course, though whether or not Adderpaw would see it that way was another matter entirely. "Sorry," he added after a moment, realizing he hadn't formally apologized to the tom yet. Aside from his initial reaction, Shadekit had stayed relatively calm, as he had hope yet that he could salvage the conversation before it descended into an argument. The pale white kit thought about adding another comment, but decided against it; right now, it seemed the last thing Adderpaw wanted to hear was another attempt at a joke.

ADDERPAW OF ICECLAN The apprentice lashed his tail once before curling it around his paws with a huff. He severely doubted that Shadekit was being sincere, but at the same time, Adder didn't really feel like launching into one of his frequent rages. The kitten's eardrums would live to see another day.

Shadekit's eyes went blank for a moment, so thrown was he by Adderpaw's sudden shift in mood. His gaze brightened once again, filling with relief at Adderpaw's acceptance of his apology as well as excitement at a break from the rut that was kit life. "Sure," he said happily, glancing around the camp, wondering if the older tom had anything in mind; the kit desperately wished he could leave the camp, but that wasn't going to be happening for several more moons. So, he looked back to Adderpaw, and asked, "Did you have anything specific in mind?"

ADDERPAW OF ICECLAN Ironically enough, leaving camp was exactly what he had in mind.
A wicked grin spread across Adderpaw's muzzle. He'd be in deep trouble if they were caught, being the older one, but the apprentice didn't really care. It was either this or he'd end up doing something else forbidden. Adder never did have much respect for the laws of the Clans.

Shadekit's eyes widened, surprise written clearly on his face. He did want to venture outside the camp, of course; what kit didn't? But what would happen if some cat caught them? Would he be forced to stay a kit, never to receive an apprentice ceremony? "I dunno..." he said eventually, torn between excitement and fear. "Are... are you sure that's a good idea?"

ADDERPAW OF ICECLAN "Yeah, it'll be fine! We just gotta leave through the secret exit and make sure nobody sees us. Then we can walk around the territory for as long as we please. Aren't you excited to see the mountains?"
Adder really was a terrible influence. Regardless, once he got an idea, it was hard to talk him out of it. What little resistance Shadekit had demonstrated evaporated rather quickly at the mention of a secret exit; his curiosity would simply not allow for him to stand idly by at the possibility of knowing something few others knew. "Let's go, then!" the little kit exclaimed, practically hopping with excitement as he glanced feverishly around in an attempt to spot this exit on his own.

ADDERPAW OF ICECLAN The apprentice hissed a little at Shadekit's reaction. "Shh, act normal!" he ordered sharply. Luckily, nobody seemed to have noticed that they were up to anything yet, but Adder wasn't going to count on things staying that way.
"Go sniff around behind dens like you're exploring the camp. Then meet me at the back of the nursery when it's been a little while." With that, he prowled off, heading for the nursery as if to visit… but at the last moment he veered to the side and disappeared around the den. If they were going to do this, they'd do it properly.
