Wolfkit was silently lapping from a puddle. The water was freezing, and he wondered if the coldness would make his tongue fall off. Drifting off into thought, it took him by surprise as another cat appeared in the puddle. He looked confused for a second, but then a warm grin appeared on his muzzle. He lifted his head. "Hey."

Miatu noticed another kitten at a puddle nearby. He seemed deep in thought, which caused her hesitation. Unsure of what to do, she paused mid-step, considering backing away and disappearing, as he still had yet to notice him. Too late. The tom rose his head and smiled warmly, greeting her. Miatu took a hesitant step forward, briefly mirroring the younger cat's expression, though certainly more awkwardly, and without managing to hold it. Taking a few more steps forward, she paused at his side and bowed her head to lap at the icy water, allowing it to refresh her mind before she glanced up and bowed her head in greeting. "Silentkit" she mouthed I audibly, blinking curiously at the tom and gesturing for his name.

He perked his ears forward. He saw her mouth move, but didn't catch a name. Violentkit? Fly-antkit? He didn't know. It didn't bother him too much, he'd figure it out eventually. He slightly shuffled to the side, wanting to give her enough room. "I'm Wolfkit." He purred, wrapping his tail around himself. "You having a nice day?"

Clearly he didn't get it. Sighing silently, she shook her head and lapped up a bit more of the water before seating herself alongside the younger tomand pricking her ears to listen. At least inaudibility refined her listening skills, and so she often held no need to try and hear things. She smiled back at him and bowed her head again, wondering briefly if she should mouth her name again before deciding against it. She didn't feel like another game of lip reading charades with a cat who could just as easily ask one of the queen's or another kit. As he questioned how she was enjoying her day, or if she was in fact, she tilted her head to one side habitually, clearing thinking about it. She then when on to nod, holding no other valuable response that she could think up.

He watched her nod and grinned. "That's good. I'm glad that leaf-bare is coming to an end. I've never seen new-leaf before." He settled down on all fours. His stomach rumbled. Wolfpaw flattened his ears in embarrassment. "I think I'm going to go ahead and grab a hare. You wanna share?"

Miatu nodded slightly in agreement, she hadn't seen newleaf either. Though she had seen the other seasons. Noticing his stomach rumbling, the young she-cat purred amusedly and flickered her tail over his ears, feeling a little more relaxed. As he invited her to eat with him, she dipped her head in thanks and followed him toward the fresh kill pile. As he didn't grab one, she reached up and dragged one hare off the pile, being bigger and older than the other cat by two moons. She nudged it toward him and sat down, tail tucking over her paws. She'd caught one of these before, it wasn't that hard, though they were fast, and you had to be careful of their hind paws.

He watched her pick the meal, nodding as she dragged it down. He politely pushed it back as it was nudged toward him. "You can have the first bite. I don't need much." Wolfpaw turned the hare so that the larger part of it was closer to her. He yawned and looked ahead, realizing that his companion probably wasn't going to talk much. "I can't wait for the flowers to show up again. Some real pretty ones were growing in the nursery at the beginning of leaf-bare. Do you like flowers?" He turned to her, hoping his conversation starter wasn't a complete failure.

As Wolfkit nudged it back and decided that she should have the fist bite, she was almost tempted to turn it down, but she decided it would be rude. Instead, she bowed her head in genuine thanks and carefully bent her head to take a few neat bites before nudging it back toward him in a gesture that she'd rather he had some more. She noticed he had stalled in the one-sided conversation and yawned, gazing around. She followed his gaze momentarily before returning it back to him and smiling gently, settling down onto the ground properly. She didn't really want much more. She was surprised when he changed the topic of his portion of the single conversation to flowers, and stated about pretty flowers at the start of leafbare. She wasn't really sure how to react at this point, so she just nodded thoughtfully and twitched her ears, not sure what to do. Briefly, she fleetingly remembered something, and dipped her head, bounding off toward the nursery. She sniffed around her nesting area and found two flowers. One purple and one Blue. She was going to replace them or add another once she bacame an apprentice, especially because they wouldn't survive much longer. Picking them up as carefully as possible, she bounded back back toward Wolf and placed them before him, waving her tail slightly. 'My home' she mouthed silently, wishing like crazy that she could speak. Yet such was not the case.
(Wanna just pretend they were apprentice's the whole time since both are at the moment? Then we can continue thread without it being completely out of whack)

After she'd taken a few bites, Wolfpaw ripped a piece of the animal off for himself. He held it down with his front paws and chewed neatly. Swallowing, he turned to look at her again, but she wasn't there. Confused, he looked around and caught sight of the she-cat bounding away. Wolfpaw turned back to his prey piece and lowered his head. He wasn't hungry anymore. What had he done or said to make her run off? 'Maybe I was annoying.' Shrugging to himself, he sat up and started grooming himself clean.
A few colorful objects caught his attention as they were placed at his paws. He bent down and sniffed them. 'Flowers!' It was only when he looked up that he realized Silentpaw was trying to say something. He examined her mouth as it moved. 'My bone? High foam? No, my home! That's what she's saying!' "Your home? There's flowers there?"

They apprentice waited as he mulled over her voiceless words. She opened her mouth, about to try again, when he spoke up. Closing her mouth, she listened before nodding tentitively. Miatu missed her home. And her sister Yuki. Her brother too, though not as much. She missed her mother, and all their hunting practices, and their battles. She didn't, however, miss her father. Head teach her to fight with unsheathed claws, he'd threaten her, he'd attack her if she so much as put one paw wrong, and he was the reason she'd been cast out. A shiver ran up her spine at the thought, and her eyes fell solemnly to the ground before she dared look up again. Was his smile contagious or something? She wondered briefly as she almost mirrored it. He was making her smile quite a lot, probably his joyfulness. Continuing the conversation to her best efforts, she added a little more. 'My family also,' she added as best as she could, blinking toward the nursery to signal parents and siblings before glancing back at him. She was glad she was here, though at the same time, she wished she could go home.

He frowned as the apprentice looked down. "Are you alright?" He nudged her side gently with a paw. Wolfpaw watched carefully as she mouthed some more. By now he realized she was a mute, but it didn't bother him much. He'd just have to be patient with her to figure out what she was trying to say. He squinted at her as her mouth moved, and he followed her gaze to the nursery. 'Her family.' He kept quiet and thought for a moment before speaking. "You're not from here, are you?"

Yes, he'd finally clicked on to why she wasn't speaking.
The young apprentice met his gaze as he watched her lips moving, squinting and following his gaze to figure out what she was trying to tell him. He was trying so hard, it shocked Miatu that he seemed to care so much. Yet she was glad that if she couldn't have her sister and brother, she'd at least have this cat. Wolfpaw. As he guessed, she nodded reluctantly, nodding toward the mountain and signalling a sense of 'over' to symbolise that she lived on the other side of the mountain with her old family. She blinked slowly at her paws for a breif second before offering him a sweet smile and gentle nudge. "Will show you some day" she promised before signalling to the camp exit. "Hunt?" She offered, nodding to the fresh kill pile. She needed to get her mind of all of this, and hunting was a high skill of hers, despite not having been taught by a clan warrior yet. No, she'd learnt moons ago back home, especially when she'd had to hunt with her sister in order to survive before they were found by Iceclan.

He looked off toward a neighboring mountain. So that was her home. 'Did she make the journey here all alone?' "You definitely need to show me someday. I'm sure it's a rad place." Wolfpaw glanced at the prey heap as she mouthed and nodded at it. "Hunting? I'd be up for that. I'm not too good at it, though." He looked away shyly and started padding in the direction of the exit. He stopped and dipped his head. "You can lead, if you want."

The young apprentice nodded, but that was her only response. She'd officially made a promise to show him, and she couldn't back out now. As he agreed to hunt with her, she smiled happily, glad to finally have someone willing to hunt with the mute apprentice. Not that she hadn't had anyone. After all, even Robinstar had taken her out hunting once. At his sudden awkwardness, she nudged him and smiled, unable to purr. "I'll help you" she offered happily before nodding and trotting after him toward the entrance. She was surprised when he told her to lead, however she simply shrugged it off and brushed past, heading toward a different area from where she'd hunted so far, following a semi-stale trail of a hare to find a good hunting ground. It wasn't long before she came across a clearing on the other side of a bubbling river. Unlike most Iceclanners, Miatu ignored the possible fish and stalked off silently into the clearing, gesturing him to follow. She soon picked up the scent of a mouse, and dropped into a rather strange crouch compared to the clan cats. She moved forward easily before darting at her prey and grabbing it just as it went to run. Carefully, she snapped its neck and nodded her satisfaction before carrying it back to her friend and burying it. Leading him on, she caught the scent of more prey and flickered her tail in the direction, nodding him on.

He followed her, surprised that they didn't stop at the river. Then again, she wasn't from here, so maybe she didn't like fish. Wolfpaw shrugged it off and watched silently as the egyptian mau collapsed into a hunter's crouch. He tilted his head curiously, wondering if she'd pull it off. He wasn't surprised when Silentpaw returned with a mouse. He grinned and waved his tail. "Nice catch!" After she'd buried it, he followed her some more. There was a delicious scent nearby, but he couldn't tell what it was. Wolfpaw paused, looking a little confused as they halted. He looked at her and shook his head, taking a step back with his ears folded. "I can't. You go on ahead." His voice was quiet and he waited for Silentpaw to continue.
