Assessment Time! (P-wolf)

Wolfpaw huffed. He didn't think he was strong, but if Melodysong said so... The apprentice crept up on her from behind and leaped sideways, hoping to slam her down.

[Melodysong]

Melodysong rolled quickly to the side, hoping to avoid his surprise attack. However, as the apprentice slammed down on her, he smashed her tail. She laughed. "You're getting close. Come on! You're almost there! Keep in mind that I have superior hearing and speed, but not much else. You're also smaller than me. One more time, use that to your advantage!" She said. Not that she'd ever admit this to the apprentice, but hearing and speed we're pretty much the only good physical qualities she had. She wasn't very strong, so she couldn't cause much damage to enemies. She preferred hunting, climbing trees and sneaking up on prey.

Wolfpaw staggered up. He flicked an ear, indicating he had heard her words. He wasn't very good at being quiet, so her ability to hear well was a definite disadvantage for him. 'How in the name of CloudClan am I going to do this?' He wanted to give up, but knew that it wasn't an option.

The tom padded forward again and swiped at her muzzle.

[Melodysong]

Melodysong gasped as the apprentice's paw swiped out, surprising her. Such a simple move, but sometimes simple was best and most surprising. His claw swiped at her muzzle, and she grimaced. "Well, you've done it. Good job." She said, truly impressed.

He set his paw down, still gaining his breath from all the running. He was surprised that the move had hit her. It was simple, and he was standing right in front of her. Wolfpaw tilted his head, wondering if they were going to continue.

[Melodysong]

"Well, I think we've exhausted fighting and hunting.... What about climbing?" She asked, honestly not sure if climbing was a mandatory part of IceClan assessments. She was good at climbing, but she'd never really had an apprentice before....

Wolfpaw shrugged at the question. "If you'd like me to, then sure. What do you want me to climb?" He asked, looking around. Other than trees, there weren't too many climbing opportunities at the barn. Unless she wanted him to climb on top of the farmhouse. That would be a whole different story.

[Melodysong]

Melody song thought for a second. Trees were so boring.... What was a more interesting climb? Hm... There were a few trees, nothing really tall though. And other than the barn, all there was was grass....the barn. "How bout you climb the barn?" This should be entertaining.

Oh goodness. Wolfpaw took in a breath and padded closer to the barn. 'I can't jump that high!' He looked around for something to help him, quickly spotting a little tree with branches stretching to the roof. He trotted over and leaped up, grabbing the wood with his claws and climbing the rest of the way up. He stopped at a branch near the middle, and from there he heaved himself up and walked along it.

He could feel the little branch begin to bend under his weight. 'This has to be quick.' With that thought he quickly hopped along the branch, pushing off with his back legs once he reached the end. The apprentice closed his eyes. not sure what he'd feel next.

More wood. Though this was a different type, he could feel it. Wolfpaw opened his eyes. sighing in relief when he realized he was standing on the slope of the barn's roof. He raced up to the top and stood tall, looking down at the ground for Melodysong.

[Melodysong]

Melodysong cheered. "Good job! I think that's the last thing....you've passed your assessment! Now let's get down here so you can celebrate!" She knew there wasn't really much to do in terms of celebrating anymore, but she wanted Wolfpaw to be happy. He'd earned it.

Wolfpaw's ears perked up, and a wide grin settled on his face. 'I passed!' He thought, skidding down the side of the roof and jumping off. He landed with a loud thud and happily trotted over, dipping his head to the warrior. "Thank you, Melodysong!"

[Melodysong]

Elodysong dipped her head in respect to the apprentice and nodded. "Yes, you have passed." She said. "I'm so proud of you!" She exclaimed. She hadn't known the apprentice for long but she was glad she'd had the opportunity to mentor him and looked forward to getting to know him better in the future. "Now, we should probably get back to camp." She said, a little worried about her kits. What could they have gotten themselves into while she was gone?
