Redfang started the day in much the same way he started every day: hating the fact that he was awake before the sun. He'd bear it, of course; as time went on, he became more and more accustomed to early mornings, and besides, he had an apprentice to train. He was careful not to disturb any of the other warriors as he made his way toward the entrance, and once out of the den, he strode over to the freshkill pile and selected a rabbit from the top. Though it didn't take him long to finish the prey, he waited until the sun had crested the horizon before waking his apprentice; she deserved as much sleep as she could get, and the extra time allowed the ruddy tom to wake up a bit more. As soon as he saw the first hint of red in the east, however, he poked his head into the apprentices' den, calling out in little more than a whisper, " Tinypaw, time to get up. Fights aren't gonna..." the warrior trailed off, trying to think of a suitable add on. "...fight themselves?" Good enough. With that, the warrior headed back out into the camp, sitting down to wait by the entrance.

Tinypaw was in the middle of a great dream. In it, she was now Tinystarm leader of Fireclan and she was leading her clan to victory against the nasty clan of Deathclan. As her claws scoured the face of the leader, she heard her name being called very distantly. "Tinypaw." She woke with a start, head shooting up. She turned to see Redfang, her mentor, leaving to sit by the camp entrance and groaned. She stood up, stretched and stepped into the bright camp, eyes blinking to adjust. She turned her head to see her mentor, sitting beside the entrance and bounced over to him. Well she stopped at the fresh-kill pile and grabbed a pheasant looking bird and drug it over to where her mentor sat. "Good morning, Redfang", she said kindly.

Redfang watched as his apprentice stepped out into the camp, taking a moment to adjust, then made her way over to the freshkill pile for breakfast. She'll certainly need it, the warrior thought to himself; mock battles could be rough, and would take significantly larger supplies of energy than hunting, especially if a combatant had no experience with fighting before. Redfang offered Tinypaw a grin of his own as she made her way over to him, dragging a pheasant along with her. "Good morning to you too, Tinypaw," he replied, pausing for a moment to yawn. Guess I'm more tired than I thought. "When you finish," he continued after his yawn, "I'll show you how to fight in defense of your clanmates and territory. Fair warning, you may find it more tiring than hunting." Though the warrior was confident in his apprentice's skill, he knew from experience the endurance required for the first day of sparring.

Tinypaw nodded and hurried to finish the pheasant. As she took her final bite she stood up, looking eagerly at her mentor. She had never sparred before, but she was hoping she'd be somewhat decent at it. Maybe her small size would make her nimble. She was bouncing with anticipation, ready to learn how to fight like a true warrior.

Nodding encouragingly at Tinypaw's enthusiasm, the ruddy warrior stood and stretched one last time, enjoying the pleasant warmth given off by the morning sun. "Right. Let's get to it, then," he said, turning and setting off at a brisk pace towards the camp entrance; normally Redfang would keep at a slower speed when with his smaller apprentice, but the activity would get the blood moving in the young she-cat, and she would need to be ready and alert if she wanted to learn how to fight. The tom had set a course for the small hollow he'd trained Tinypaw in previously, and it didn't take very long at all to reach it at such a quick pace. He turned and sat in the center; he wasn't sure his apprentice had kept up with him the whole way, but if she had, he figured she may need a moment to catch her breath before they got started.

Tinypaw followed her mentor, struggling to keep up with the brisk pace. While Redfang was just trotting along, Tinypaw was running to keep up with her mentor. It didn't take long for the duo to reach the training center, due to how fast they were going. As they entered the center, Tinypaw sat down trying to catch her breath. After a few short seconds, she stood up and faced her mentor, ready to start training.

When it seemed as though Tinypaw had caught her breath, Redfang stood up once more and met his apprentice's eye; it was important she retained this information, because when her inevitable first battle came, it could mean the difference between life and death. "Learning how to fight is best done through experience, so for the most part, we'll be sparring." It was true; he'd learned more from practicing than he had from looking at postures, and he'd decided that he would focus his training on experiential learning. "I'll demonstrate some defensive moves first; they'll provide you with a base for expanding your knowledge in fighting. Now, try to attack me," he said, widening his stance ever so slightly to prepare for her assault.
