Brightpaw nodded. She was... Still trying to be better than her siblings, despite the rough bumps in the road that were painfully frequent. She kept her paws sheathed.
She bent her knees, in preparation for movement and lunged forward, but was actually trying to blow past Eveningwhisper and attack her tail.

When she seen Brightpaw prepare to leap, Eveningwhisper instinctively leaped to the side, and narrowly dodged Brightpaw's attack. The ginger warrior lunged forwards, and attempted to sweep Brightpaw's forelegs to knock her off balance.

Suddenly, Brightpaw found herself being flipped over and fell on her face. She hissed in pain, the snow's cold being sharp, stinging her face. She still got up, and she made to leap at Eveningwhisper's face.

Eveningwhisper was staggered by the apprentice when she had leaped at her face. The other she-cat wasn't big enough to completely knock her down yet, though. Eveningwhisper shook her head before sitting down. "Alright, I'm impressed. Now. Your fighting skills are good for your age, but your form could have been better. My sweep further proves my point." She meowed. "Try standing firm, and you should only be staggered by an opponent's sweep or headbutt." Eveningwhisper instructed.

Brightpaw didn't react to the praise. She was fine with the logical assessment of her initial skills. That's all it was to her. Just... Facts.
The whole... Standing your ground thing sounded a bit off to her, dodging sounded more sensible. However, she didn't question it, merely nodded.

"Alright. You did well. I recommend practicing in your spare time. You'll make a great warrior in no time. Now, we'll move onto hunting." Eveningwhisper meowed. "Are you familiar with the hunting crouch?" She asked, flicking her tail. Hunting was Eveningwhisper's strong suit, and she adored teaching it to others.

Who was Brightpaw supposed to practice with? She really didn't want to spar with Almondpaw, preferring not to accumulate scars too fast. Besides, she didn't want Almondpaw to see how she improved. That would be an advantage to the cruel she-cat. No, she'd keep her skills secret. Maybe Mudpaw would be up for practice... He said he liked fighting, so he'd probably be fine with a normal spar.
"... Yeah. I saw some apprentices practicing in camp." She replied honestly.

"Alright, could you please demonstrate your hunter's crouch for me." Eveningwhisper flicked her ear. She'd evaluate the apprentice's observations and how well she had picked it up from watching from the shadows.

Brightpaw took a deep breath, thinking about what she'd seen. She'd taken mental notes at the time, recognizing the crouch's importance. She began to crouch down, moving her paw's positions for a stable stance. She took another deep breath, lowering herself, allowing her tail to waver just above the ground. Testing her weight, she shifted which legs she was placing pressure on, so as to make sure she wasn't tensing herself to both jump and not jump at the same time.

Eveningwhisper circled the apprentice, observing her crouch. It was the best one she had seen in a while. "Hmm, I'm impressed." She sniffed the air for prey. There was a mouse nearby. "Smell that mouse. See if you can hunt it down and kill it." She said. Eveningwhisper would watch carefully.

Brightpaw released her stance, shaking herself out a bit as she returned to a normal standing position. She only took Eveningwhisper's praise to mean that she had taken good notes. Then she was ordered to find a specific mouse apparently. She lifted her nose to the air, sniffing out what smelled like mouse. Or at least, what she figured was a live mouse. It was like a piece of fresh-kill, except much more vibrant and without the stench of death hanging on it.
She nodded and went off. She was careful in her steps, not quite stalking yet, but making sure not to kick up a fuss as she walked. Eventually, she came within sight of it. She dropped down into her Eveningwhisper-approved crouch, and began moving forward slowly. She actually knew what her jumping ability was, having done quite an amount of exercise on her own. She crept up to an acceptable distance, and she pounced. Before it could even squeak, she'd snapped its neck. She picked it up in her jaws and looked around. She knew Eveningwhisper had been watching.

Eveningwhisper nodded to Brightpaw. "Excellent catch! Well, we should head back to camp now." Eveningwhisper instructed. The ginger tabby warrior began to head back to camp.

Brightpaw simply nodded, the mouse still dangling from her jaws. Once more, she failed to react to the praise. She followed Eveningwhisper as the older she-cat led the way back to camp.
