Bluepaw

Brightpaw slowly opened her bleary eyes. She raised her head and gently turned her head to look around. She looked up at the sky, which was a blue-ish gray, generally unobscured by clouds. Rare color splashed across the horizon in the color of flames. The sun was setting.

Her pelt was covered in snow, the tiny crystals sticking to her flank. She was laying down in the snow and she wondered what had happened. Ah. Now she remembered. She'd been... More than a little bit tired and had sort of collapsed in the middle of the territory into the snow. She shook her head, trying to rid herself of her drowsiness. Then she stood up on her paws, trying to shake herself out, trying to get the snow off. She huffed to herself.

Then she got a weird feeling and looked over her shoulder to see...

Someone she hadn't seen... Well, more than once actually. She narrowed her eyes.

It was Bluekit... Well, Bluepaw now. 

She didn't really feel like making the first move, so she simply gave a general unfriendly look to the newly minted apprentice.

[Bluepaw]

Bluepaw was headed toward her nest since the day was over, but she stopped to view the sunset. It was very beautiful. She loved the contrast between the warm and cool colors. Even a few clouds mingled here and there. The sight gave her warmth despite the cold. The sky really was a wondrous place... 


Just as she was about to go on, she stopped. A familiar face from kithood was staring at her, and not in the most friendly way... Bluepaw blinked a couple of times. I didn't know Brightki- paw was an apprentice now. I must have missed her ceremony. Blue felt the urge to be just as unfriendly to Brightpaw, but she refrained. I want to be rude to her, but that isn't the right thing to do, right? I know we've had a bit of bad blood between us, but that was when we were kits. We're apprentices now, so surely we can put all of that behind us, right? Blue certainly hoped so. Taking a deep breath, she headed over to where Brightpaw was. "Hello, Brightpaw," she greeted with a small smile. "I didn't know you'd had your ceremony. When did you get here?" When in doubt, small talk it out...right?

Brightpaw's ears flattened. She only had one thing to say... At first, at least. "Seriously? Small talk? That's what you're going for here?" She questioned, in a rather sharp tone of voice. They... Hadn't really parted on great terms. Admittedly, Brightpaw saw she'd been mean in return when she really shouldn't have. At the time, she'd sort of mentally lumped Bluepaw in with Aloepaw. Though... Admittedly, she seemed okay-ish at first. 

But then... She'd sided with Brightpaw's crueler brother. 

"The last I saw you, I hurled cruel words at you, and you're just... What? Trying to forget it? Creating a blank slate?" She questioned, rapidfire. She wasn't too sure as to Bluepaw's motivations, but honestly? She couldn't help but feel a tiny bit paranoid and concerned as to the actual goodness of the other apprentice's words and actions.

Bluepaw was a bit taken aback by Brightpaw's outburst. She blinked in amazement. She's still holding on to that?? I mean, I don't expect her to just forget it ever happened or anything, but she can't move on??? Blue felt frustration begin to bubble up inside of her, but she held back. I can't leave this situation where it is. I've got to try to make amends.

"Well, yeah," she responded, trying very hard to keep her tone even. "I don't expect you to forget about what happened when we got into a fight and everything, but I at least thought we could try to start over...Do you think we could?" Blue asked hopefully.

Brightpaw eyed Bluepaw suspiciously. She could see the signs of the other apprentice's frustration, but was apparently restrained. She was surprised that she had that kind of control. Well... She supposed maybe it wasn't that surprising. Still... She wasn't letting her guard down.

She could still hear the wavering in Bluepaw's voice, as subtle as it was. Heck, she was more or less looking for it. The hopeful edge to her voice actually... Cleared things up a bit. She might be wrong but... "Are you seriously that desperate for friends you're willing to forget the fact that I called you a terrible person?" She questioned, her tone not exactly... Gentle. 

[Bluepaw]

Brightpaw's words struck something within her. It was true she didn't have many friends. Actually, the only friend who'd stuck around was Aloepaw, but Blue had not seen him at all since coming to the Apprentices' Den. He's around here somewhere...I know it. Maybe our training schedules are just at different times. Besides, I don't mind being alone. I'm always alone. But it was getting harder and harder to keep lying to herself. Bluepaw had spoken to a total of three cats since her arrival in the den...which included her own mentor and Brightpaw.

What Brightpaw said to her began to crack a wall she placed in her mind. Maybe I am just desperate... Beginning to waver, Bluepaw cast her eyes aside. "I just-" My voice cracked. Wonderful. She cleared her throat and tried again, keeping her eyes down. "I just want to make amends..."

((.... BWAHAHAHA I just remembered I'm actually Aloepaw's mentor on my other account. My plans are to be a cruel, cruel mentor mwahahhahahahahah

Brightpaw shut her eyes and looked away. ".... Are you friends with Aloepaw?" She asked. She needed to know. She... She didn't want to be friends with someone who was on his side. They might not be a bully like him, but being a bully clearly wasn't a dealbreaker and that was bad. She couldn't be someone like that. Plus, it raised the chances of running into him. Fear shot through her at the idea of being forced to stay in the vicinity of Almondpaw and Aloepaw, with no escape. Actually, the idea made it a little hard to breath.

She... Honestly didn't think Bluepaw was all that bad but.... She.... She couldn't torture herself just to be friends with this one cat. Besides, she had Mudpaw. It was okay if... If she broke this she-cat's heart and rejected her pleas for friendship.

Bluepaw looked back at Brightpaw now and blinked. Obviously, my answer will affect how she treats me, but I can't just lie. Is she seriously basing all of this on who I'm friends with instead of who I am?? Even so, she still tried to be polite. Maybe they could find a compromise somewhere. "Would it matter if I was?" Bluepaw seriously did not understand how Brightpaw could base their potential friendship based on Blue's friends friend. She felt a cat should be judged on his or her personality and true self, not who he or she hung out with. It just didn't make sense...at least not to Bluepaw.

Brightpaw sighed. "... Yes it does." She said quietly. "And that means... We can't be friends." She flattened her ears and lashed her tail. "I don't expect you to understand... But I guess I should try to explain, at the very least." She forced herself to take a deep breath, it was shaky. "The point is... I'm very, very dedicated to avoiding my siblings, except for maybe one of them. That one isn't Aloepaw, alright? If you're friends with him, then the chances of me running into him whenever I try to talk to you... Is more than I'd like, which is to say... At all." She forced herself to take another deep breath.

"And you decided that Aloepaw's behavior wasn't a dealbreaker."

Bluepaw was frustrated that Brightpaw didn't seem to want a compromise. Be friends with Aloepaw or Brightpaw. No in between. Why did have to be so black and white with her? Nevertheless, Blue tried to listen to Brightpaw's explanation with an open mind. She sighed. "I guess that makes sense...but I can't just turn my back on Aloepaw. He's my first real friend. I think there might be more to him than what you see." Blue paused to take a deep breath, trying to accept that they couldn't be friends. "But I'll respect your decision. So...where do we go from here? Are you going to just ignore me whenever possible or what?" If she and Brightpaw couldn't be friends, then Bluepaw at least wanted to know what to expect from here on out.

Brightpaw knew Bluepaw was frustrated. However, she still wasn't willing to compromise. The other apprentice's words were... Touching, she supposed... But they really didn't change the situation. She flattened her ears. "He's my brother. There isn't anything more to him than what I can see." She couldn't afford to think that Aloepaw might be... Might be good. She couldn't let her compassion be a weakness. It would almost certainly be exploited, and she couldn't risk that. "... I sort of avoid almost everyone, so we won't see much of each other. It won't be hard." She took a deep breath.

"Listen, I don't like you. As long as you condone his behavior, we're not going to be on friendly terms." She gently shook her head. "But... I'm not going to be mean to you, or convince you to stop being friends with Aloepaw. Alright? It's your choice."
