Almondfire Stormfrost padded out of the warriors' den and realized, today was the day. He mumbled to himself about being late while he ran over to the fresh kill pile. Eating a mouse would be all right as long as he was able to stay full. He glanced over the pile for a mouse but a vole looked better. After eating his breakfast, he trotted over to the apprentices' den and called for his apprentice to join him outside. "Almondpaw! Ready to become a warrior? We have to go!"

Almondpaw woke up at her mentors yowl
'My assessment.' She hoped that she would pass so she could become a warrior before her whiny littermates. "Coming!" She groaned as she padded out of the den. The spotted tabby had to be respectful today or else she would never get to show Willowpaw and Brightpaw that she was better then them.

Stormfrost was happy she did not keep him waiting and began to speak about the assessment. "I recommend if needed that you grab a piece of prey to eat before we go. We may stop to hunt but that prey should be for the clan. Once we get out to a good spot in the territory we will first start with the hunting portion. You need to catch as much as you can before sun-high. I would say catching a bird would be beneficial to catch as it's the only prey we hunt that can fly. Only if you can. You do not have to...." He paused for a moment before continuing, "We will deal with battle once the hunting is done."

Almondpaw just nodded. She wasn't very hungry so she just ignored the fresh-kill pile and stared at camp exit quietly as she waited for her mentor to lead the way. Once she was a warrior her littermates had to respect her.

Stormfrost could tell she was ready to go and padded out of the camp and into the territory. He could tell she was a bit quieter than usual. It was ... odd to him. But he didn't question it. With her being respectful and quiet it'd make it easier and a faster assessment.
He wandered over to a spot in the territory where nobody had really hunted for a day or two. He hoped that meant plenty for his apprentice. Stormfrost took it easy on his apprentices though he knew life would not be so nice. Unfortunately, it is also leafbare, which means harder hunting anyway.
"So... remember what I said. You have till Sun-high to catch as much as you can. I recommend catching somewhere around four pieces of prey." Don't worry, if you catch anything less you will still become a warrior. He added the thought silently to himself due to not wanting his apprentice to take advantage of the situation.

Almondpaw headed off to search for prey.
As she padded deeper into FireClan's territory, the spotted tabby tasted the air to scent prey. A few long moments later the mouth-watering scent of a mouse entered her nostrils. She smirked and followed the scent until her eyes fixed on the small creature. Almondpaw got into a hunter's crouch and crept towards it. The mouse noticed her and began dashing away but Almondpaw was close behind. She leapt when she was close enough and sunk her teeth into the warm body.

Stormfrost was happy that his apprentice had already caught a piece of prey. Looks like she'll do well. He found a warm spot in the grass to sit where the sun shown down onto his pelt. Warmth in the middle of leafbare, seemed like FireClan was well suited to it's name. One down... but what next?

Almondpaw buried her first catch. Her eyes shone with pride but she knew she wasn't finished just yet. The she-cat started sniffing around for more prey but she couldn't scent any.
The spotted tabby padded deeper into FireClan territory, in search of prey. The scent of rabbits entered her nostrils. It took a bit for her to spot the rabbit but not that long. Almondpaw got into a hunter's crouch again before the rabbit started running. She dashed after it, trying to keep up.
Almondpaw wasn't as quick as her whiny littermate Brightpaw but she was still quick as a FireClan cat should be. When she was close enough the she-cat leapt onto the rabbit sinking her teeth. She smirked and buried her second catch
Now that she had caught two, Almondpaw was even more determined to catch a third. A mouse was nibbling on some food it had found. She got into the crouch and crept towards it. Somehow the mouse had heard her and was dashing away. It was too late to catch it now. Almondpaw let out a hiss of frustration. She would never pass.

Stormfrost stood up and stretched before following his apprentice even further into the territory. He tried to stay out of her way but he needed to keep an eye on her. She wasn't a warrior, not yet. But he was determined to see her finish proudly. He was happy that she had already caught two and when he saw the third catch get away he thought, Don't worry! You'll get another chance! He didn't want to yell, it would only complicate things worse by scaring away the prey.

Almondpaw was close to giving up. She knew she wouldn't pass anyways. She could never prove to anyone that she was better.
She started sniffing around for more prey, hoping that she did not scare it all away.

Stormfrost could sense that she was close to giving up somehow and frowned. He didn't want that for her. Come on kiddo! He thought. "You can do it!" He whispered encouragingly, hoping that she'd be all right. Stormfrost knew he couldn't help her but would she be able to do it on her own? He had faith in her and he didn't want her giving up.
He looked up at the sky. The sun was rising. It was getting closer to sun-high but it wasn't quite there. Would she catch another? Or would she give up? Stormfrost just had to wait and see.

Almondpaw caught the scent of a mouse.
"I can do this, I can do this." She whispered to herself quietly getting into a crouch. The she-cat took light steps towards the mouse and dashed after it when it began to run. Once she was close enough, the she-cat leapt sinking her teeth into the creature.

Stormfrost was thrilled though knew he should keep his muzzle shut. If he made a lot of noise it could startle the prey. He glanced upwards at the sky. Almost there. But he was glad she had some more time. He only wanted her to get four. The tom would go out later and hunt too. Perhaps a vole? Or a squirrel? He couldn't think about food too much or be hungry.

Only one more piece of prey was needed, Almondpaw sniffed around and soon caught the scent of a vole. The she-cat crouched down low but then accidentally scared the vole off with her clumsly stalking. The she-cat hissed in frustration and sat down. She would never catch another piece of prey in time.

Stormfrost's eyes widened as he saw the prey slip away. He didn't want to call her short so he just let her hunt. Some may say that's too nice. But once you're a warrior, you can hunt till you drop so he didn't feel too much pressure should be exerted. She was doing fine and he'd hate to disrupt that.
