Crystalbird huffed. "I can't speak for Arrowstar, but I was unaware if I was overstepping my boundaries in doing that. Apparently I wasn't." She told Squirrelpaw flatly. It's not like someone gave her a comprehensive guide on how to be the deputy, or anything.
She sighed and tilted her head. "You do realize I'm like that with everyone, right? I don't withhold my sarcasm from anyone, not Arrowstar, not you.... Not anyone." She clarified. She huffed. "Well, cats don't come programmed with knowledge on how to be a perfect leader and role-model." She snarked. She was a bit annoyed that she still didn't know why Arrowstar picked her, because the bratty apprentice had a point. She wasn't deputy material. She was far too immature and suspicious in general to be a good deputy.
She didn't get it.
"I'm here because I want to be." She said, instead. "I understand the rebel's point of view, believe it or not. I'm not that unreasonable. I don't agree with it, but I can relate to their mindset." She grimaced. "My main problem is that this is possibly going to schism the clan."
((I can't remember if I've been RPing Crys as being a hard-headed loyalist. ehhh actually I don't think she's ever said the rebels' opinion was wrong.... Or am I remember incorrectly??? ahhhh i don't know if i should pretend it didn't happen or if i should call it a case of crys saying things she doesn't mean))

Squirrelpaw couldn't believe that TreeClan was so terrible. Crystalbird had clearly no idea how clans worked, and yet, she had managed to become deputy, over dependable cats like Beechroot and Yellowburr. It was embarrassing, and she was surprised that another clan had not yet invaded and taken TreeClan territory for themselves.
"Some cats are better than others at leading." Squirrelpaw said with a shrug, and then sighed. "I don't want things to come to violence any more than you do."
She flicked her tail. "It doesn't seem like Arrowstar is going to do anything, though, and at this rate, he needs to or cats dying will be inevitable." Her expression darkened, and she looked down at her paws. "I don't want to just sit back and let it happen."

Crystalbird was fully aware of how she sounded. She was getting frustrated. Extremely frustrated with cats' impossible expectations that made her feel like she was constantly walking on eggshells, every little word pushing her back onto the defensive. It was aggravating. She couldn't afford to stop caring again, not now... Even when it was extremely tempting.
"Well, isn't that the truth." She sniped. She didn't want to say anything about the implications of Squirrelpaw's statement, especially since the apprentice clearly didn't believe the white-furred deputy actually cared about Treeclan. Hmph.
She flattened her ears. "It's not mine or Arrowstar's fault that this clan is full of cats itching to tear each other apart. And I thought teamwork was valued here." She snarked. "You might think there's some miracle solution, but I can't control the actions of others. There's already a massive divide with passionate cats on both sides. I can't stop cats from having their opinions."
((tbh i have no idea how to convey's crys' thoughts. it's all very complicated))

Squirrelpaw supposed there was no further point in trying to argue with Crystalbird. It wouldn't get her anywhere, and it would just make the deputy dislike her more than she already did. Neither of the two were going to reveal their true feelings, and they also weren't going to change their minds.
"Well, whatever happens, you don't have to worry about me trying to kill you in your sleep. Or Arrowstar, for that matter." The apprentice stated. "Despite what you may think, I'm not a murderous, power-hungry cat. I'm a regular cat who doesn't want violence, but I also think TreeClan has a few flaws that need to be fixed." Squirrelpaw added. She did not want for every non pure-blood to be exiled, that was completely ridiculous. Blood really didn't matter, intentions did. Even if Arrowstar and Crystalbird were clan-born, Squirrelpaw doubted she would like either of them.

((tbh if Crys was clanborn her personality would be different lol. Probably still someone who likes to keep to themself, but still fairly friendly and talkative.))
Crystalbird, despite her frustration with this whole situation, was starting to get bored of this conversation. It was going in circles at this point. She was the white-furred incompetent deputy to Squirrelpaw, and Squirrelpaw was a bratty, entitled apprentice to Crystalbird. It wasn't going to change.
She rolled eyes. "Of course I don't have to worry." She was actually a rather light sleeper... Meaning that she certainly wouldn't be taken by surprise by an apprentice. She was reasonably sure Squirrelpaw meant that the red-furred apprentice wouldn't even be trying it... But Crys had always been rather paranoid. "A lot of cats claim they don't want violence, but decide it's not a dealbreaker to get what they want." She'd lost count of how many cats who attacked her claimed they were 'nice guys'. It was really exhausting at this point.

Squirrelpaw shrugged. Crystalbird was judging her unjustly, but Squirrelpaw wasn't going to get her fur in a twist over it, she was used to it. No one would ever believe that she was worth anything, which was why she had to prove herself. It was a shame, really, considering that involved a lot of cats that she liked dying, but they could be replaced, or whatever. Maybe someone would kill Squirrelpaw before she got the chance to kill any cat.
"Yeah, cats lie." The apprentice responded blankly, losing interest in the conversation. "That's why I'm worried about letting so many strangers into our ranks." Of course, Crystalbird would never admit how dangerous outsiders could be, because she was an outsider herself, and she cared more about her well-being than the future of TreeClan. Typical.
((yeah, i think squirrel was kind of doomed from the start.. also, end of thread soon?))

((Yeah, sure.
Crystalbird yawned. She didn't care how rude it was, not really. "I think this conversation is done. You've said your part, I've said mine. We're not budging. I don't like you, you don't like me. It's not changing. So if you don't mind... I'm going to head out."
She didn't even wait for a response before she walked past Squirrelpaw, and kept on walking. The white-furred deputy was nothing but a white blur in the distance in no time at all, before she was completely out of sight. It wasn't as if she'd been afraid of losing the argument, she simply didn't see the point in hanging around squabbling with an apprentice for too long. She knew who she was. She knew what she thought. Thanks to Squirrelpaw, she knew how she was perceived. She was fine with that. Really, she was.
Just fine.
