"Hmm," Ashpaw hummed thoughtfully out loud, surveying the options. "Well, we could try a mad dash to the apprentice's den, but that's bound to get us soaked to the bone." Ashpaw frowned slightly. "If we were to clean ourselves quickly enough that wouldn't be too awful, and it means longterm better shelter. Or...is the medicine cat's den closer...? He only entertained that thought for a moment before shooting it down. "Nah, I don't want to interrupt them. That's a bad idea. This is not going well."
"Suffice it to say, I don't really like our options," he admitted, smiling nervously. "We could stay here and be kind of wet for however long this storm lasts, or we could get drenched for a minute and be dry after that until the weather clears. I'm...not really sure which is worse."

"I hate rain." Squirrelpaw grumbled, biting back a groan of frustration. The warriors den was fairly close, and if only they were warrior, dashing over there wouldn't be so bad. However, she felt no desire to run into a den full of warriors and spray them with water, especially with how high tensions were running.
She looked up at the sky, seeing dark clouds stretch in every direction. "Well, at this rate, we're going to catch a cold.." Squirrelpaw shivered again. It would be nice to press against Ashpaw for warmth, but the ginger she-cat was not about to get that friendly with him.
The short-furred, wiry she-cat let out a sigh, her teeth chattering for just a moment before she calmed it. "I guess we need to go to the apprentices den." Squirrelpaw said bleakly.

"I do not wanna get sick on top of everything else," Ashpaw agreed. "I'm behind enough without being nest-ridden for a week. Noooooo thank you." He suppressed the urge to shake out his pelt. He had a feeling Squirrelpaw wouldn't exactly be pleased to be sprayed with pelt-water, on top of the rain already reaching them.
"I guess we have no choice," he said, with sudden seriousness. He flashed smile a moment later that betrayed the fact that he was joking. "Alright. On the count of three, make a run for it," he said, adjusting his position so that he was more prepared to run. "It was an honor to meet you Squirrelpaw," he teased, as though they were dying, when really the worst thing that could happen was for one of them to trip. "Three...two...one...go!" Laughing, he dashed out into the rain, pausing for a moment to make sure that Squirelpaw was following before rushing to the apprentice's den.

Talking about making a run for it was one thing, but actually doing it was another. Squirrelpaw's paws felt like stones, and she had to swallow the disgust she felt as Ashpaw talked about having to go for it. Rain was something that she would have to deal with her whole life, and she wouldn't be able to hide from it. Only cowards hide.
Squirrelpaw tensed her muscles, looking at Ashpaw one last time. "Yeah, see you on the other side." She meant it as a joke, but her words came out fairly grim.
As soon as she saw Ashpaw move, Squirrelpaw darted after him. She had the body of a runner, with lithe, long, and muscular legs, but even at her speed, Squirrelpaw couldn't cover the distance fast enough, and got completely soaked.

"Cold!" Ashpaw breathed upon making it to the apprentice's den, with Squirrelpaw not too far behind. He tried to keep his voice quieter in case some of the other apprentices were sleeping. "Cold. Cold, cold. Really cold. Wow." He resisted the urge to shake out his pelt and instead started trying to clean himself rather quickly.
"That was an adventure," he said in between licks. "But it could have been a lot worse, you know. Imagine if we were in FireClan? There wouldn't even have trees to hide under." [[ wow that's short ]]

"Great CloudClan, this is awful." Squirrelpaw came to a screeching halt beside Ashpaw, and immediately began to shiver as the cold air hit her drenched fur. She took a note from him and started to groom herself as well, warming her fur in a slow and tedious manner.
She scoffed a bit at his comment, her gold eyes darkening. "I don't know what I'd do if I didn't have trees to cover me, I think I'd drown in the rain." Squirrelpaw resumed licking, now wondering what FireClan cats could possibly do to protect themselves from new-leaf's downpours.

"I just don't get why any cat would really want to live in a place so open," Ashpaw joked. "Yeah, I guess there's...more room to run or whatever, but I'd feel so exposed without anything to hide behind other than grass." He ran his paw over his ears a few times in an attempt to help dry them off, but even after a bit of grooming he was cold. Less wet, at least, but cold.
"I guess the open sky would be kind of nice, though," he admitted, upon thinking on it further. "Not when it's raining, of course. Just on clear nights. Must be nice to get a full view of the stars almost every night, right? Easier to see our ancestors- maybe it's easier for them to look back, too." Maybe that's why they weren't doing anything about all of this- because it was harder to see them under all the trees.

Squirrelpaw was built more like a FireClan cat, and if she had been born there, she got the feeling that she would've fit in just fine. Plus, she'd heard stories that FireClan cats were especially cruel and dark-hearted, which would make it feel even more like home. "I guess there aren't as many predators there, I don't think badgers or foxes live in fields.."
Her fur was starting to dry, and talking helped keep Squirrelpaw distracted from how cold she felt. "There's not much to be gained from looking at the stars." She said with a shrug. "If CloudClan wants to talk to us, we have a leader and a medicine cat."

"I guess that's true..." Ashpaw murmured. "I think I'd still rather have the option to hide than not, though. I'm too much of a TreeClanner at heart." He puffed his chest out theatrically for a moment before deciding to give the fur there a few quick licks instead.
"You seem to be a cat of few pleasures," Ashpaw teased at her comment about the stars. "So serious. All the time. Ever learn how to have fun?" She'd grown up with the civil war going on...of course she hadn't. Ashpaw decided to change the subject. "Yeah, maybe we're not the ones who get to really communicate with CloudClan...but it's still nice to know they're there. Besides...even without CloudClan, the stars are nice. They're pretty. Useless, sure, but nice to look at."

Squirrelpaw rolled her eyes, but Ashpaw's everlasting positivity was actually somewhat amusing. She wondered if he would stay that way after Yellowburr finished taking over and revolutionizing TreeClan. Probably not. A cat could only witness so much death and destruction before completely breaking.
"I do have fun. Training is fun for me." She countered. Just because she didn't play games like most cats didn't mean that Squirrelpaw was completely devoid of happiness. "I guess stars are nice." Squirrelpaw admitted, licking her shoulder. "It would be nice to live somewhere that isn't so crowded."

[[ is it wrong that i actually kinda like the dynamic between these two...? ]]"Well...I guess hunting is pretty fun, now that you mention it," Ashpaw conceded. "Can't say I'm a fan of the fighting, but I understand why it's necessary to learn. And sparring is probably fun but I wouldn't know." He shrugged.
"I probably spend a little too much time looking at the stars," Ashpaw admitted, somewhat sheepishly. "It'd certainly be quieter," he agreed. "And less chaotic. Maybe that's part of the charm of TreeClan, though." They were a bunch of cats who cared- sometimes too much, sometimes about the wrong things, sometimes in the wrong way, but they all cared. The problem was that they cared in different ways.

"Beechroot hasn't taught me a lot of fighting, but I think it sounds really fun.. And hunting's definitely really nice, and tree-climbing.." Squirrelpaw breathed out, looking past Ashpaw and imagining everything she'd described. TreeClan was really the perfect place for her, and one day she would go down in it's history.
Squirrelpaw nodded in agreement. While she would've done well in FireClan, she was glad that she wasn't living there. "I like it here." She mewed, yawning.
((hey, do you wanna end this thread and start another one with them as warriors?))

[[ yeah! I'll go ahead and start one in a bit ]]Ashpaw couldn't help but smile a little bit more when Squirrelpaw mentioned that she liked TreeClan. For a moment, he forgot there was even a civil war going on. For a moment he let himself forget they were on opposite sides of it. They didn't seem all that different.
He pushed the thought away. This wasn't the time to think about that. Besides- it seemed like Squirrelpaw was getting tired. The thought of curling up in his own warm nest was admittedly rather appealing to Ashpaw, as well. "Well, it was nice to meet you, Squirrelpaw," he meowed, making his way towards his nest. "Hope you sleep well!"
