( Heron, I briefly read your last training thread and do you just want this to be an assessment thread or a fighting thread?) Shiningflame always started her training sessions at sunhigh as she always made sure to be on camp at sunhigh just in case she forgot. In this case she hadn't forgotten; she was training Spottedpaw now. It would only be a matter of time until Falconpaw was a warrior, and she had a feeling she would be able to finish up Spottedpaw's training pretty quick. Glancing around camp after dropping some prey in the freashkill pile, Shiningflame spotted the other apprentice greeted the younger cat with a flick of her tail as she approached. "Ready?" she asked, "Did you already eat?"

Spottedpaw Spottedpaw bounced up with a large smile, Ahaa, training again! The snow bengal held his tail up high and walked out of the den. "Hello... errr.... Shiningflame, correct?" he mewed, his head tilted to one side. "Ah, I'm not too hungry," he mewed, shaking his head.

Notes - Maybe a longish assessment thread? Either way, I'm good!

"Yep, that's me. So first let's go over what you know and then decide what to do from there?" she asked, allowing the other cat to decide as they did know their training much better than her.

Spottedpaw "Uh.. all I really need is battle," he mewed uncertainly. "Not much, got through the territory and hunting." The tom stretched.

Shiningflame nodded. "Well then lets work on fighting. I think you can pretty much guess on the front strike and the pounce, so show me what you think those look like," she instructed.

Spottedpaw Spottedpaw bounced to his feet, standing tall. In the air, he swiped his paw quickly in the air, giving his impression of the move. He looked at his mentor briefly, before backing up and attempting the pounce. He bunched down, his legs strong, before lunging forward, almost like how you'd catch prey.

Shiningflame nodded. Both were pretty good, and would fix themselves with time, so she only gave a few pointers. "Good. With the front strike make sure not to reach out to the point where your body moves forwards. If you have to your enemy is just out of reach and you won't be able to reach them, and if you do you are putting yourself off balance and your strike won't do much damage," she said, focusing on the strike first, then moving into the pounce, "As for the pounce, there are many different types, but what you did is closest to a hunting pounce. It is good for when you want them to or think they will dodge, so you can land on their feet. For other pounced, you want more pressure of landing at the front, so the impact will have more of a chance to put them off balance. Then, for the crouches. There are really only two with a lot of little variation to fit each cat. For the defensice crouch you want to be light on your feet like this," she gave an example of the crouch, "While also being able to take a hit without being knocked off balance easily. This way you can quickly dodge or react well when you fail to. So try that," she said, remaining in the crouch for the apprentice to see.

Spottedpaw Spottedpaw nodded a few times, taking notes carefully. After he noted everything he was almost eager to try the crouch. Staying as balanced as he could, he crouched down like Shiningflame. "Ha, feels like nothing can knock me down!"

Shiningflame gave a small smile and a nod as the apprentice showed her the form. "Then comes the offensive crouch." she said, showing one herself. (Sorry short)

Spottedpaw Quickly, Spottedpaw mirrored her, shifting his position to try to get every fur of his body perfect.

Shiningflame watched Spottedpaw and nodded. "Once you know these two poses, the rest is simple. Paw strikes, pounces, lunges, and bites are all you have left to worry about, and then you can combine them in any way you want." she said, flicking her tail, glancing up at the sky. "Since you already know how to hunt and it's still pretty early do you want to do your assessment today or wait until later?"

Spottedpaw Spottedpaw smiled, he was proud to learn so quickly. he really didn't want to seem eager to her assessment offer, but some of his siblings were already warriors, he sat up tall and shrugged, "You're the mentor, it's your choice." He tried to hide the fact he really wanted to get it over with.

Shiningflame nodded. "Ok then. You need to get two peices of prey from two differently places, one being a well known landmark like the Blossompond or the Grave Yard." she said, flicking her tail to dismiss Spottedpaw and signify he could get started. (Make sure to make a den cleaning thread.)

Spottedpaw Spottedpaw nodded, he knew many animals like voles and mice liked the Reed Beds, so he started off there first. He got there, and almost immediately smelled prey. He crouched down and narrowed his eyes. In a big patch of reeds, was a vole. He was annoyed about how it was placed. Spottedpaw made his way close, and pounced forward, catching it as soon as he could, and biting it's spine. He noted it was small, but prey was prey. The tom walked away and buried it nearby.

Shiningflame allowed Spottedpaw to go faster than her, following behind like a shadow and making sure she was out of sight. It was a good thing that Spottedpaw knew how to bury the prey, although she's wasn't so sure about the position of they prey he had picke. But who was keeping count? He had caught it and that was that. Now he only had one piece to go.
