She wasn't too sure what Swanfrost meant about her precious innocence but maybe that was the point. "I think it might take more than a few words to do that," she pointed out with a purr. "But it's gotta happen eventually right? Not like I want to live life in a bubble." Hickorypaw had enough sense to know the world wasn't full of butterflies and rainbows, she just hadn't experienced hardship for herself yet. But it was out there.
Swanfrost seemed upset, or annoyed, at Hickorypaw's protests. Maybe she was missing something there but the logic seemed simple enough to her. "I have friends my own age," she countered. "My brothers and sisters. I don't think age dictates who and who can't be friends." The rest of Swanfrost's advice made sense and Hickorypaw grinned. She stepped towards the she-cat timidly, hoping she wasn't crossing any personal boundaries. When she was close enough the tabby stretched out a paw and gently tried to tap Swanfrost's shoulder. "We're connected," she laughed. "What now?"

Swanfrost rolled her eyes slightly at the smart aleck remark, but didn't bother drawing attention to it. It was obvious she wouldn't be able to shake the apprentice off, or, at least Swanfrost wasn't willing to make the effort to try. She was too drained to do much of anything really.
"Siblings don't count as friends." She sneered, curling her tail tighter around herself, letting her head drop onto her paws. Hickorypaw was lucky to be close to her siblings.
Although, that did change when the apprentice began inching towards her. Swanfrost's head slowly rose, a deathly glare on her face as Hickorypaw placed a paw on her shoulder. "Off." She growled lowly, baring her teeth. "Now." She had never been one for contact, especially when it was someone else starting it. She had only ever really had physical contact with Brightwing...
