Juniperkit squeezed her eyes shut and buried her face into the moss lining of her bramble nest. She groaned. She was having that dream again -- that dreaded dream about the shadow drowning her family and even Juniperkit's own body, while she watched, fully conscious but unable to move or even think about anything other than the scene before her.

Juniperkit finally pulled her tiny body up. She quietly stretched, then stepped out of her nest, careful not to make a noise. She started to make her way to the entrance of the nursery, when her foot brushed over one of the nests. Specifically, her brother's, Hollykit. Oh yeah, Juniperkit thought. Hollykit moved her nest yesterday.

Juniperkit guiltily peered through the darkness, trying to figure out if her brother had noticed anything. She soon saw the glint of Hollykit's amber eyes as she opened them.

"Ah, sorry Holly," Juniperkit whispered.

hollykit let out a low whine, opening his eyes slowly as he was awoken from his nightmare. he was hoping he wasn't going to have another one, and being awoken as soon as a giant paw was about to swipe at your face wasn't the most calming of things. the brown and white cat flinched, blinking several times, seeing that the cat who had awoken him was infact his sister juniperkit, and not a scary beast. he actually felt quite silly for being scared, but brushed it off and gave his sister a playful grin, "it's fine, runt," he lightly teased, letting out a quiet laugh, "why are you awake at this time, anyway?" he asked, concern laced in his soft voice.

"Oh, I was just going to get some fresh air," Juniperkit meowed. A knot was still in her stomach, and her breathing quickened. She really needed that cool, fresh air. The confines of the nursery started to feel threatening, and Juniperkit began to look visibly uncomfortable. "It's the nightmares again," she admitted. The entrance was just out of reach. She scooted closer, and stuck her head partway out while managing to keep her gaze on her brother. Juniperkit took a few deep breaths, then returned to her normal position, feeling slightly better.

hollykit nodded silently, watching juniperkit as she began to panic lightly and went towards the den entrance to get some air, "i can relate," he mumbled simply, lifting himself to his dark paws and stretching, opening his jaws to yawn widely. "should we just go out or something?" he asked, stepping forwards to nuzzle his sister, "get our minds off things..." he said, trailing off as his eyes began to focus on the camp outside. it was pretty dark out there, but it was better than being in the nursery.

"Sure." Juniperkit mewed, her eyes settling on the exit as well. Flashing a glance from her mismatched eyes to Hollykit, Juniperkit lifted her paws and started towards the moonlit clearing. When she poked her head outside, a refreshing gust of wind hit her face. Juniperkit flinched back for a second, before regaining her composure. She padded outside with no further hesitation, then glanced back to make sure that her brother was following.

hollykit smiled as he stretched once more and walked over to the exit, following juniperkit and grinning widely when they reached the clearing, deciding he could talk louder now as the risk of waking anyone up was now significantly lower. "so," he continued at normal volume, "what should we do out here? it's pretty weird with no one around," hollykit stated simply, lowering his head to sniff around at the ground, his nose filling with the scent of cat.

Juniperkit shrugged, going over to sit in a patch of moonlight a few tail-lengths away. "I do this all the time," Juniperkit admitted. "And I personally like the silence. I mean, I kind of feel like I'm being judged by other cats all the time. Out here, alone, no one's watching."

hollykit let out a small yawn as he followed juniperkit once more towards a patch of moonlight, smiling softly as he lay down in it and rested his chin own his paws. he nodded simply in agreement, "it does sound nice to be able to go out without being judged... i always feel like others are giving me weird glances, do you get that?" he asked, beginning to continue absentmindedly, "i think that's why i always try take control and prove myself all the time..."

"Same..." Juniperkit said quietly. "Even if it isn't the most obvious," Juniperkit tore her gaze from the sky to look at Hollykit. She gave the tomcat a glance, before letting her eyes wander the dens. "And yes, I know what you mean. It feels like everyone is always watching us, waiting for us to do something, even though we don't know what that is," Juniper shook her head solemnly. "I hope that changes when we become apprentices."

hollykit let out a soft sigh and swished his dark tail, "it hopefully will," he said simply, "or maybe we could stop them... i don't know," he stated simply, focusing his amber-yellow gaze on juniper, "i don't get what's so different about us... i mean, yeah we weren't born here but so what? who cares?" he grumbled slightly when he spoke, "we'll probably be better warriors than the rest of the clan so what's the point in discriminating if we're gonna be better?"

Juniperkit nodded in agreement. "Well, Crystalbird was a loner before she joined the clan." she meowed.

hollykit nodded, a wide grin forming on his face, "yeah, exactly! and she became deputy even though she was born outside the clan, so we should at least be given some respect," he said, staring forwards, his face showing slight anger.

[Juniperpaw]

Juniperkit nodded. "Well, I met an apprentice a few days ago... she said that she was adopted." Juniperkit said. "She told me that the same went for her. She didn't tell me much, and just went on to say that she found friends at some point."

hollykit let out a small 'mrrow' as he raised a brow and looked up at juniperkit through the corner of his eye, "really? what was her name?" he asked.

"Midnightpaw," Juniperkit answered simply. She looked to the spot where she last saw her, almost expecting her to be there.
