This is part one of a story I've been working on for almost three years. This part is the oldest, I made it in Seventh grade. It is also the unedited version, meaning ti has not been fixed, and all of the name changes I've made since then have not been applied.

"Pencils, notebook, binder, Lunch card, schedule, remote. Remote? Why is there a remote in my bag?" I took it out and stared at it. This must have been the work of my mother. She was just as nervous as I was about the new school, It must really be getting to her though if she put the TV remote in my bag. This isn't the first time though. I've gone to many new schools many times. I was used to it. It had all become one easy game for me I guess. Not that I think of life as a game, it's just, you can only be so emotional about moving so many times before it becomes just a life style.
My Mother and I are always moving to stay away from Him.
Him, the one who would ruin all that we've accomplished together in life.
Him, her husband.
Him, My father.
These kind of things are so common these days aren't they? Heh, the controlling husband and the weak minded wife who only comes to her senses after the husband does something way out of line, such as break his daughters wrist. That right. That how it all began for me and my mother. The end of her relationship was the beginning of our lives. Or so we thought. Being the controlling man he was, he would stalk us both. Constantly called us. Break the restraining order and come into our house.
One night he just came in, before we could do anything, he pulled out a gun. He was drunk.
He knocked me out with the handle of the gun that night so I will never fully understand what happened, and truthfully I don't think I want to. All I know is since then we've continued to run, But I'm done chewing that meal. Check please. Keep the change... or not. As I said. It's just too common. I guess that's all life is nowadays, just so cliché`.
I should slow down now, I'm going too deep too fast.
Moving on, my name is Kelsie, Kelsie Bethony Harker. I prefer to be called Barker though. I feel more comfortable with it. My father chose the name Kelsie so, yeah you can see where I'm coming from. Moving on once more. I have light brown hair, bright green eyes, Caucasian, and a slimming figure. My beauty is my curse I suppose. Sounds real shallow doesn't it? I'm not shallow though. I KNOW I am beautiful, and that's not something I like. Immediately when people see me, they go after me wanting me to join their little cliques. It's not something I enjoy. I do not like large groups of people. I prefer the 1 or 2 friend thing. It's much more calmer, and safer I might add. I would tamper with my look to look like the reject I am. I really would. There's just one problem. My mother made me promise to never purposely change anything about me. I have no problem with the promise really. This small sacrifice for my mother is the least I can do.
"Bethony, sweetie, breakfast is ready!" My mother called from the kitchen. Her voice had a sorta gravelly edge to it. It was an edge caused by all of the yelling through her years. "Ok Mom! I'll be right there!" I called to her. I zipped up my bag and lugged it to the kitchen. A warm scent of hard boiled eggs struck my nostrils. I sat down beside my mother and we both ate quietly. Her cooking wasn't all that great, I must admit, but I would live. I finished up and sat up. "Come on mom let's get going." I said with that smile that I knew she loved to see. She sat up and looked at me with her soft hazel eyes. She wrapped her arms around me. "You know I love you right." She asked rhetorically. I returned the hug and answered her. "I know ,I love you too." She squeezed me harder, it was kinda painful, but I didn't mind. I hugged back hard as well. It felt good to be in my mother's embrace. To know that we'll always be there for each other. I mean we have to always be there for each other. Because if we're not, who will be? She began to loosen at the same time as I and we released each other. We walked out the door and got into the purple Honda civic of my mothers. Purple was our favorite color. She drove through the streets of the town until we came up to my new middle school. I bid my mother farewell and walked towards the entrance. There was a gray haired man eyeing me from a distance and smiling. Creepy. I walked faster. I had to push my way through a mob of boys who were trying to tackle each other, possibly trying to make a wannabe moshpit. As I made my way through the mess, I heard someone whistle at me. I winced and tried to pin point the source. I couldn't pin point who did it. I continued on with a grunt. I made my way to the front desk, only to be greeted by a sweet looking old lady. She turned to me and smiled. "Hello, I'm Kelsie." I winced as I said the name. "Bethony Harker." I finished. "Ah yes the new girl, Your room number is 214." She smiled and winked at me. Apparently she already knew exactly what I was gonna ask. I guess I was just one more new student in the school. Common. I made my way to the second floor and found my room. I reached out to open the door, but pulled back as I felt a hand rest on my shoulder. "You must be Kelsie the new student." I looked behind me to see a short woman with dark red hair smiling a very fake and foolish smile."Good morning miss, I'm afraid I am ignorant as to who I am greeting." I did my best to sound intelligent and highly mature. "I'm Ms. Lore, your Vice principle." She smiled wider. Faker. "It's wonderful to meet you Ms. Lore." I told her with my very own, far more skilled, fake smile. This lady was going to be a real joy. "Please, allow me to introduce you to your class." Without waiting for me to protest she opened the door. "Good morning class, you have a new student. Kelsie Harker." I winced when she my first name and left out my middle name. "I hope you will make her feel welcome." Of course they'll make me feel welcome. I could already see one group of preps waving at me and gesturing for me to sit with them. I waved back and smiled. Always start your first day on the preps good side, it's the easiest way to get the most information about the school. After that, just flip me off and find some real friends. That's always been my strategy, and it works. There was a dirty blonde headed women smiling at me. A real smile. Surprising. "Welcome Kels- I cut her off before she finished. "Please call me Bethony, or Barker if you like." I could feel Ms. Lore suddenly glaring at me. I did interupt my teacher after all, what a horrible crime I commited! I will have to soak my remorse in some boiling pot of oil! Oh no! Oh lordy oh lord forgive me for my sins, I promise I'll never do it again! Forgive thy neighbor! Or something like that. "Ok Bethony you may choose an empty chair if you find one." My teacher pulled me out of my sarcastic mind. I looked around for a place to sit near to preps. Of course there was no chair open even close to them, the fact that they were begging for to come sit with them without noticing that small fact already showed me their IQ. I looked around and saw a girl sitting alone with an open seat beside her. The other desks seem to be facing away from her. The girl had curly black hair, raggy clothes, and a bandanna covering her mouth. She seemed to be staring at her desk lost in thought. I took a few steps forward towards the girl. Suddenly a Latino boy grabbed the chair away from the desk, startling the girl and causing her to slam her hand on the desk. The class laughed. The boy hit his hand on the table mockingly. My fingers curled into a fist. I felt an anger in me. "THATS ENOUGH!" The once soft voice of the teacher became harsh. Thankfully the VP had already disappeared with anyone noticing. "Sorry Ms. Dervy, just havin' some fun ya' know?" The Hispanic boy said in an arrogant hot shot tone. "Well Victor since you seem so keen on having that chair then you can put it back where it belongs and sit in it. Also Mr. Torez, my name is Ms.Dervile." The teacher said sternly. "O c'mon Ms.Dervile don't make me sit next to Dawn !" Victor whined. "Besides I didn't do it on purpose, I was merely pulling out a seat for the new girl." He winked at me. I shuddered. "Well then you can give Bethony your chair then and sit next to Dawn . Now." Ms.Dervile said a bit calmer. Victor got up with a groan. He turned to me and pulled out his chair and gestured for me to sit. "Here you go Barker." He said with his hot shot soft smile. The class found it necessary to all go "Aww". "Thanks kid." I said as I ruffled the top of his head like a baby sitter would a 6 year old. The class seemed astonished that I had just treated Victor like a normal child. I took my seat with a large inward smirk. I turned to look at Dawn, there was a small glint of amusement in the girls dull eyes. Victor smiled at me with a large embarrassed grin. He took his seat next to Dawn scooting as far away from her as he could. I had just beaten the class hot shot. I officially ranked higher than him with a single gesture. It's times like these that made me wish I was shallow, this way these moments would have more meaning to me. But sadly it didn't and I had nothing of rejoice in me.
