{This is before the war, peeps. For elders only.} Beechstar had a pair of sad yet nervous pair of amber eyes. Eyes that looked over a clan that could be dead in a few days. He needed advice. Something he never really asked for.
He would ask Spiritstep, the previous leader. They had always had a mysterious connection. Maybe thats why he became leader of Mintleaf. Who knew?
He saw a raggedy white pelt of the elder. Poor old things. I knew the white one was Spiritstep, I wasn't stupid. Gentleheart was brown and white, Spiritstep all white.
He cast his shadow over her, blocking the sun. Maybe she would wake up. He knew she was unpredictable.

( OOC: Akhaskjka. I'm so late. I didn't realize this was here! So sorryyyy. D: ) All day, she drifted in and out of dreams. Memories, twisted and broken under the influence of her subconscious appeared and disappeared before her.
What was,
What never was,
And what is.
Golden orbs did not need to open to sense a shadow fall over her, to feel the strength behind the graceful steps, to smell a familiar scent. Ear perked up, and waited.
"...Why do you come before me? I cannot see Cloudclan's spirits anymore, so my words are now purely out of experience. Is it not better to ask our fallen comrades, or to wait until I too am one?" Spiritstep meowed to the leader; eyes still remaining closed. A sensation began to mingle within her—one she had forgotten.
It is true, that she hated him, but she could not forget feelings that were when she was leader.
Beechkit, Beechpaw, Beechtree...
"Beechstar, speak to me. Listen to me."
She never could forget the past.

(I don't mind. :3) Beechstar dipped his head respectfully. "I'm here to talk to you about Fireclan." I meowed, my fur sitting on end. Fireclan is just a group of filthy rabbit chasers. I rather stay in the trees.
"I know we share the hatred for them." My eyes narrowed into silts. "But I'm considering using them for the battle." Beechstar hadn't said 'ally' he said use.

Eyes flew open, as gold met amber. They took in the twitch of his tail, the narrowed eyes, the hair on end. Hatred brimmed in both of them, and in one's hatred, pride in her successor's primary interests.
"You know what I think of Fireclan, what I think of Darkstar," the name tasted bitter on her tongue, but there was a new spice in it, jealousy. Jealousy that her worst enemy: the most undeserving, callous, egocentric failure of a cat could keep her position longer than Spiritstep could. Teeth were bared in disdain as the former leader continued, "But, tell me your plan. Why Fireclan? Why not our age-old ally, Rockclan? Or even Iceclan? Of all cats, why must you pick the most rotten bunch? I do not doubt in your leadership, Beechstar, only in the motives behind it."
Claws dug into the soft soil beneath as an realization dawned upon her. "...Or, has Rockclan already betrayed us?"

(Ugh, I had put a post here earlier but it went to no Internet connection and deleted it.*smashes head on keyboard*) The eye contact made his spine feel like ice. He drew in a deep sigh. "Everyone but Fireclan had betrayed us. We have no choice Spiritstep...." He didn't sit straight now, so it looked like he was leaning over.
"It's either side with them or be wiped out. And I won't let my clan get wiped out by a bunch of rock-dwellers!" It was hard to tell if they were fighting over just talking. Confusion.

( OOC: Super lazy post arghhhh. ) Her heart sunk. His clan...?
Reality was cruel. Spiritstep dipped her head. "You're right. It's your choice. At least it won't appear out of the ordinary, considering you're the new leader. They'll think you want to start anew..." she said solemnly, not meeting the leader's eyes.
Eyes once again flickered shut. "I put my, and everyone's future, in your paws, Beechstar."
She was no longer leader, and she needed to accept it.

(I LOVE THE YOUR AVATAR. I HAVE A STUFFED ANIMAL OF HIM IN MY ROOM. I should have checked this earlier... a lot earlier.) Beechstar could see the grief in her yellow eyes. "I've already told them it would be different." I look at her and lean over but then hesitated and started to padd off. He was unaware of what was to come.
But then at the last instant Beechstar ran back over to her and licked her ear quickly. "Take care of yourself...for me." He whispered and like a bullet he was gone.
