The Wind Academies;; Chapter three;; A report and an announcement
Kiba sat on Star-Prancer's back which was low enough to the ground for Kate to reach her ankle because the dragon was crouched substantially. The girl had refused to tell her story before a fire was lit and her dragon forgiven. So as Zack lit a fire with flint and steel and Kate tended to her ankle she stretched luxuriously and began, "Well, first of all I saw a East Wind--" she was cut off by gasping and Zack dropping the stick her was using to built the flame, "As I was saying," she glared, "I saw an East Wind before the wytherns attacked,"
She recounted the tale and finished with, "You see I believe Star-Prancer had to get me out of the air so she could fight the wythern better, and also she would look like a runaway dragon...." "Not a dragon with one of the most important and best riders on it," finished Kate for her. Kiba blushed, "Don't Day that." Kate didn't press her further but instead said, "Well you just sprained your ankle, you'll be fine." Kiba looked over at Zack who seemed relived, "Oh just get us some food, a day of riding has made me tired, I'm sure it has made Kate tired too." teased Kiba.

The three humans and dragons flew into the taking off and landing meadow where they had bed playing around the other day. They were awaited by Kiba's father, who when heard the tale grew very pale, "I must make an announcement." he said shortly walking away right at that second. Kiba's face grew grim, "I hate it when he gets like this, we better not be late for his announcement, let's put our dragons in."
They led the creatures to the stables, Kiba limping slightly. "I'll see you soon, Prancer." she said in the dragon's head. It simply nodded in agreement and thrummed it's affection. For speed Zack had to carry Kiba to the announcement and even then they just made it on time.
The announcement hall was simply a million year old hallow tree that could fit seventy dragons let alone, the what, thirty assembled riders. Kiba's father recounted the Flowing Wind's report and the riders turned pale. "However," he added, "This will not affect the Sun Ride.
A few of the younger riders pumped their fists as if to say 'Yes!'. The Sun Ride was a competition where even the bitter North and South Wind Academies came. So did the Eastern Wind Academies, but not even they would make war on that day. It was the celebration on which the dragon eggs hatched, newbies were added to certain teams, and the day spring had officially arrived out-side the weather barrier that lined each academy's territory so the dragons were in their own climate. This would be great fun for the children and even the matter of the East Winds wouldn't stop this day.
"Now rest up! As you all know the celebration is in two days! Chop, chop!" he ordered the children. As Zack, Kiba and Kate emerged the early afternoon sun was strong, even for their Autumn-weathered territory. "I suppose you should train; there are supplies for me to gather." sighed Kate briskly walking off. Zack looked at where she had left for a few seconds before saying, "Come on Kiba, the others are already setting up the practice course."

So, next chapter you'll hear about them getting ready for the Sun Ride. Should Kiba's team gain a newbie? Who's apprentice, Kate's or Zack's. Kiba's the age of an apprentice but she started riding when she was five and she's THE BEST rider in the West Wind Academy. ^^
