I was dreaming. As I’m sure of now, I could expect just about anything from my dreams. Anyway, I was in front of a mirror. Just a normal mirror. My eyes were reflected as that freaky indigo that was normal for my dream reflections. So I was used to it. Anyway, I noticed something in the background; something that just didn’t belong there—Mia; my best friends best friend. She was lying there, dead on the floor. Blood streamed from cuts on her arms. I knew that Mia was a cutter, but she never went this far. “She’ll not wake,” a voice stated behind me. I whirled around, and found myself face-to-face-to-face with two bears—one a polar bear, and one a black bear. The polar bear had blood red eyes, and a mottled, gray-tinted fur coat. The black bear, however, was the polar opposite, with electric blue eyes and jet-black fur. Somehow, I knew the polar bear was dangerous—at least as dangerous than the black bear.
“How did you get in here?”
“Simple, we—“ the polar bear started.
“—Simply walked in,” the black bear finished.
“Okay…who are you?”
“I am Jason.” The polar bear stated.
“I am Mason.” The black bear replied, a tad more politely.
“We, together, are the Bear Twins.” They said in harmony. They looked nothing alike, but I knew that symmetry in their movements—the way that they thought, and how they never left each other. I noted the slight red haze around Jason, and the blue-violet mist around Mason. Somehow, Mason seemed less intimidating, though equally horrible. They were both beautiful creatures, though how they came to be was beyond me entirely.
Anyway, they began to circle me. I didn’t know what to make of this. They weren’t stalking me, nor were they dancing. Just…circling. Something glistened in the distance. A flash of gold. I walked away, and Jason and Mason followed. I could smell fur and rain. There were hints of lavender, mist, and sunshine as well. Peace. The word suddenly came to my mind. Jason snarled and Mason nosed his pelt in what I assumed was a comforting gesture. A wolf was in front of us; it was pitch black with golden eyes. I could smell poison too. That didn’t bother me the way it should’ve, though. This animal before me seemed to be wise; it did not attempt to best Jason or Mason. It simply sat there, staring at us. “Leave us.” It said, and Jason and Mason stepped back. They disappeared; Jason in a flash of obsidian and Mason in an ivory-colored lightning.
"You ought to stay away from them." The wolf said.
"Why?"
"Because Jason is a practical terrorist and Mason is...unpredictable."
"They're the Bear Twins. That sounds pretty important to me..."
"Yes, they are. But you do not know what that entails. The Bear Twins represent aspects of human negativity. Mason is depression; the infector and the one who will eat away your soul. You've seen this happen plenty of times. The soul is a fragile being, and it is easily broken, but hard to destroy. Jason is self-inflicted pain and doubt. You've also seen this in your friends. Jason is, in a way, the least threatening one, as the soul needs to be gone for someone to have so much doubt and pain to wish more upon themself. I am Nightshade, the spirit of knowledge, power, and death. I am needed for both of them to work properly. You have no idea how they wish to kill you, but it shall not happen. Not as long as I am here. I should probably tell you something, but pain is necessary for your life to work. Do me a favor and stay away from tunnels, wil you?"
"Um. Sure."
"I must go, and you must wake. Goodbye, my child."

In case you're wondering, yes; Jason and Mason are based upon Jason. Of course, Mason only lives in my head. I am writing a book, and I want to know if you have any opinions on it. Thanks!
