Whiskers
This tribe is based off the TORF and the ancient cats. To avoid confusion heres a brief description
The TORW (Rising Waves) is lead by their elders. If there are no, or there is only 1 elder, they have the more experienced adults help with decisions. Broken Whiskers, Red Cloud and Bright Fern would be those cats. (Broken Whiskers is an elder, which you will see.)
K, here are chapters 1-4. Please criticize, but don't try to shatter my hopes and dream
Chapter 1
A pale dawn light filtered through the entrance and tiny holes of Broken Whiskers’ den. He twitched his short whiskers and sneezed as a piece of moss slithered off his forehead and onto his nose.
He slowly stood up and stretched. His joints, though rested, ached from the movement. Broken Whiskers sighed and made his way out of the hollowed tree trunk, looking around to see if the other cats had woken yet.
At the corner of blue eyes he noticed a white pelt and knew it was White Tiger. He turned his gaze at her den in time to see Grey Fire and Red Cloud follow the tiny she-cat. ‘They must be going out to hunt’ He thought, happy that he would have a meal in a short amount of time.
Broken Whiskers flickered his ears as a loud mrow sounded to his left. He turned his cream colored head to see Eagle Screech staring at a tiny group of black-birds flutter among an oak tree fighting for a worm. He growled at the brown and black tabby. ‘Don’t just sit there, stupid, go after them!’ He yowled silently. He would go after them himself, but he was way too old for that.
He slithered toward the tabby tom and hissed in his ear, pleased to see the grown tom fall over in complete surprise. “Eagle Screech, why aren’t you trying to hunt those birds?” He snapped. He could see fear sparkle in Eagle Screech’s green eyes.
Broken Whiskers stomped one from paw. “Well, why aren’t you?!” He demanded. Eagle Screech sighed. “Broken Whiskers, why can’t we just let them be. Those birds look like they are young. Why not let them grow?” He asked the elder, his voice shaky.
Broken Whiskers squinted his eyes. “Because we must survive! It is autumn. The prey is starting to get scarce. We both know we wouldn’t last long without prey. I just lost Berry Tree because of the lack of prey. And its not even winter yet!” He growled, his black claws flexing. “Now go get Scarlet Rose and go hunt!” He snapped.
Chapter 2
Broken Whiskers watched happily as Eagle Screech bounded off to the tortoiseshell, Scarlet Rose, so they could go hunt like he had ordered. He turned around and nearly bumped into Bright Fern and Dusty Cloud. “Oh, Sorry Bright Fern.” He mumbled. The golden she-cat shook her head. “It’s ok, Broken Whiskers. We are just off to make sure that the two legs have gone.” She explained. He nodded and watched them leave. He looked around the Tribe’s little home. Six dens, nine cats.
The camp was a large badger set. Tunnels weaved around for many, many fox lengths. The main dens, Adult,Young lingg, Elder and Nursery were in a large clearing. The dens were made of small dips in the ground or were inside the tunnels. Broken Whiskers, the highest ranking and only elder slept in a hollow tree trunk outside the main camp. Though he was old, he was responsible for warning the clans of any danger during the night.
The cream colored tom padded into one of the tunnels that lead to Little Fox’s den. He felt bad for the she-cat. She had been born a normal size but stopped growing when she was a youngling. He had to give her credit tough, she was one of the best hunters the tribe had.
He squeezed into the cave Little Fox slept in. “Little Fox, are you ok?” He asked, feeling the horrible wave of sickness coming from her body. At first he wasn’t sure if she was awake but then he heard her shift her paws. “N-Not really. I’ve been coughing up mucus all morning.” She rasped, it sounded like it hurt for her to speak. “What about your throat, does it hurt?” He managed to see her nod a little.
Broken Whiskers picked up the little ginger she-cat and carried her through the tunnels and out into the main camp. He settled her down in the general healing den. It was next to Broken Whiskers hollow tree trunk. It was a large clearing surrounded by a bramble thicket.
“Don’t move. I’ll be back in a few moments with water and some medicine.” He mewed, licking her shoulder. He padded off and out of the clearing. He navigated his way to his little herb store. He slowly pawed out some catmint from the back. Then he gently poured some honey into a large green maple leaf. He stalked back to the clearing and prepared the medicine for Little Fox.
Chapter 3
Eagle Screech led Scarlet Rose deep into the Tribe’s ‘territory’. He knew that he and his Tribe mates didn’t actually own the land between the rivers, but all the other cats seemed to think that.
He halted, raising his tail ordering Scarlet Rose to do the same. Something was wrong. He stalker farther along, hiding behind some brambles. ‘Oh great, the fox made a den!’ He thought bitterly. He turned around and made his way back to Scarlet Rose. “That fox made a den. And by the scent, it’s probably got a couple of pups. But I didn’t hear any.” He reported. Scarlet Rose nodded. “Then let’s forget about hunting and go see Broken Whiskers about this. He may actually decide to drive it off this time.” The tabby-tom grinned deviously. Last time the fox had been reported his father had just told the tribe to stay clear of that area and let the fox leave on its own. Now he knew they would have to drive it off, even if it was a mother.
He skidded to a halt in front of Broken Whiskers and explained what he had seen quickly. Scarlet Rose was padding into the healing den, since she had learned a little bit about medicine. He saw Broken Whiskers was debating very hard on whether to drive the fox off or not. Finally the cream colored tom nodded. “Ok, you may lead a patrol later on to examine the den. If there are more then two pups then we will have to stay away.” Eagle Screech’s ears drooped, but Broken Whiskers kept going. “But, if the pups are very young or there are two or less then we may attack. One patrol to fight off the mother and another few cats to get rid of the pups. One way or another.” He could tell Broken Whiskers wasn’t pleased foxes were making dens inside their territory. He nodded. “I’ll take Dusty Cloud and Bright Fern with me to examine the den.”
Soon enough Eagle Screech and his little patrol were off towards the fox den. After a while they stalked around the area of the den and settled down in a large clump of ferns about 12 tail lengths from the den’s entrance. Eagle Screech could scent milk, and rabbit. ‘Hunting to. Broken Whiskers will definitely let us drive her out now!’ He though excitedly. Soon he could hear a series of yaps and whines. He looked at Dusty Cloud by the brown tom just shrugged. Giving Bright Fern a look, she shrugged to. ‘Great, we can’t even make out how many pups there are. Perhaps three.’ He stood up and the patrol headed home, agreed on three young pups.
Chapter 4
Eagle Screech gave a bounce of excitement as he, Red Cloud and Scarlet Rose headed for the fox den. When he and his patrol had reported what they had heard Broken Whiskers had decided to drive the foxes off. Behind his patrol were White Tiger, Grey Fire and Bright Fern. He wasn’t sure he liked nearly the entire tribe coming. It left Broken Whiskers and Little Fox and Dusty Cloud awfully vulnerable.
But he kept going. The plan was official. He and his patrol were to fight off the mother while the other cats got rid of the stupid pups by killing them, or chasing them off.
Once they were about ten tail lengths away Eagle Screech and his patrol let out ear splitting caterwauls that got the mother out of the den immediately. But she had no time to react, soon Eagle Screech and Scarlet Rose were on her back clawing furiously, tearing out ginger fur. He managed to see Red Cloud nip at its front paws before the fox swung him off her shoulders. He hissed and pounced forward, helping Red Cloud weave around her legs confusing her while Scarlet Rose continued shredding her beck with her black claws.
He yowled in pain as he felt the fox tug on his tail, but Scarlet Rose and Red Cloud soon got her to stop as the knocked her front paws from under her, causing her to crash on her face. He grinned as he saw her eyes flicker in terror. Even though there were only three cats fighting her, she was losing horribly, all her energy taken away by the care for her pups.
“The pups ran off, Eagle Screech.” Said Bright Fern from behind him. He nodded, and together the two patrols drove the mother fox far from the den. The last saw her leaping over a thin part of the river that made the Tribe’s natural barrier.
The tribe cats were soon on their way home. White Tiger was praising her daughter for how well she did with the pups, telling her that she also did good managing to find her way among the den. He heard Scarlet Rose and Red Cloud chatting happily on how well they had both fought. Soon he was overwhelmed by a sweet scent. He turned his head to see Bright Fern next to him. He smiled and together they started walking home with their pelts brushing. He had been waiting for this moment since he had become an adult. He had always loved Bright Fern.
Hope you enjoy. More should be posted sooner or later..
