“I want to start a family!”
“A family?”
“Yeah! I want a family with you and I, with an adorable child! Just, one perfect family…”
“That was all I asked of you…”

“Yeah! I want a family with you and I, with an adorable child! Just, one perfect family…”
“That was all I asked of you…”
His golden eyes were wide in terror as his alarm clock’s annoying beeping awaked him. Panting, this nineteen year-old boy put himself back into reality. He hit the snooze button on his alarm clock and sat up, running his fingers through his long silver hair. “Morning already?” he murmured as he looked out his bedroom window. The sun was rising at a slow speed, bringing the early risers of America a gift of magnificent colors from a bright pink to a mellow orange. Thus, began the morning of Second Lieutenant Skye Meister.
Skye walked into the bathroom to clean himself up for another long day at work. He got undressed and stepped into the shower. Skye adjusted the knobs on the wall to fit the perfect temperature and quickly cleaned himself off. When he stepped back out he poked his head out the bathroom door and stared at the clock. “It’s only five o’clock,” he said quietly. “I’ve got two hours.” He smiled and closed the bathroom door and dried himself off. Skye gathered his clothes that he slept in and walked back into his room with a towel wrapped around his waist. He tossed the clothes he was holding in the laundry hamper and walked to his closet. Skye grabbed his military uniform and quickly put on his pants and a tight black top that does under his jacket. Finally, Skye grabbed his lucky golden pocket watch that his father gave him on their trip to London six years ago, and started to head down the stairs.
As he reached the kitchen he was greeted by a faint barking. Skye turned around with a smile on his face. “Good morning, Charlie. My, you’re up early.”
A Labrador Retriever padded up to Skye with his tongue out. Being the smart dog he is, Charlie stood up on his back to paws, wrapped his arms around Skye’s neck and licked his face.
“Fine, fine. Let me get you some food.” Skye said with a tiny laughed mixed in his voice. As Charlie jumped back down Skye walked to one of the cupboards and grabbed a meat stick from inside it. “Here, it’ll keep you busy for a minute.” He said concluded, tossing the stick to Charlie who caught it in midair. “Good boy.” Skye prasied as he grabbed a bag of dog food from the same cupboard and poured it into Charlie’s food bowl. Before Charlie noticed the food Skye refilled his empty water bowl as well. Putting his hands on his waist, Skye took a deep sigh. “Now since that’s done, I need to make my own breakfast.” He declaired and walked to the refrigerator. Skye opened the door to the fridge and stared in it for a moment. Nothing really seemed to satisfy him at all. Skye was able to notice a yogurt cup on the top shelf of the fridge, so he decided to have that instead. “Ah… Almost forgot…” Skye reminded “Brooklyn will need breakfast too…” he said. “She’s going to get cranky without food on the table when she walks down the stairs.” Skye quickly prepared toast with Brooklyn’s favorite strawberry jam to be spread on later. Brooklyn was Skye’s two-year-old daughter. And since Skye’s girlfriend, and mother of Brooklyn passed away when she gave birth to Brooklyn, and to top it off being only sixteen at the time, Skye’s been doing his best to keep his life under control. “I should also make something for Charlotte, she should be arriving soon.” Charlotte was Brooklyn’s babysitter. She was always there to look after Brooklyn when Skye was working, which was Monday to Friday. Skye made the exact same thing for Charlotte, because he knew she liked that to eat too.
Suddenly there was a soft knock on the door that almost made Skye jump. “I’m here!” declared a cheerful voice outside the front door.
“Speak of the devil.” Skye said. “Come on in!”
“Mornin’ Skye!” Charlotte said as she walked in with a sky blue satchel filled with toys and games for Brooklyn. Charlotte was nineteen years old the same age as Skye. She had dark red hair with a small white streak down the edge of her side bangs. She also had freckles around her nose and under her eyes.
“Good Morning, Charlotte.” Skye replied with a smile on his face. “Are you hungry? I made some food for you and Brooklyn. You can eat it now if you want.”
“Thanks Skye, but I’ll eat it with Brooklyn if that’s alright with you.” Charlotte replied as she place the satchel next to the door along with her black stilettos. Charlie ran up to Charlotte and jumped up at her just like he did to Skye a while back. “Hello Charlie! I got a treat for you!” she said and grabbed a dog biscuit from her back pocket and handed it to Charlie. “Here you go, boy!” Charlotte cheered and walked up to Skye. “I was thinking Brookie and I can go to the park today, if that’s fine with you.”
“Of coarse.” Skye replied and gave her a warm smile.
“We’re going to the park?” said a small voice coming from upstairs. A little girl ran downstairs wearing pink pajamas and short brown hair with big brown eyes to match.
“Brooklyn? Why are you up so early?” Skye questioned, turning his head to his daughter.
“I heard the door and I knew it was Charlotte!” Brooklyn responded with an exited tone in her voice, clutching the ears of a stuffed bunny in her left hand.
“Good morning, Brooklyn.” Charlotte greeted, crouching down to Brooklyn and gave her a hug.
“Good morning Charlotte!” Brooklyn replied, wrapping her arms around Charlotte’s neck to hug her back.
“What about your old man? I never get to hug you in the morning!’ Skye said with a grin planted on his mouth.
“Daddy, you’re not old!” Brooklyn cheered happily and ran over to hug her father.
Skye crouched down to embrace his daughter. He got knocked down when Brooklyn jumped on him. “Guess what?” Skye said and kissed Brooklyn on the forehead. “I made breakfast for you, it’s your favorite.”
Brooklyn gasped “Toast and momma’s favorite jam?”
“Of coarse!” Skye replied happily as he let go of Brooklyn. He stood up and looked at the wall clock. “Damn… I got to go.” He murmured to himself as he grabbed his jacket. “Time for me to go! Bye Brooklyn, behave for Charlotte, ‘kay?”
“Yes sir!” Brooklyn promised and saluted to Skye.
Before Skye left he looked at Charlotte. “Take good care of her.” He said with a voice of sympathy.
“Of coarse. You can count on me!’ Charlotte replied, saluting along with Brooklyn.
“Alright! I’ll see you guys later!” Skye said as he grabbed a pack of cigarettes, saluted back walked out the door, headed towards a long day at work.
