So I've decided to share my old, crappy story with everyone. I started it when I was nine, then slowly started to collect a sense of writing style, and made it better as I went. Don't judge on the awefulness....lol. Unless its constructive critisism. I enjoy those posts.
The chapters are short. Deal with it.

Chapter One
"Kiva, start the burner!" my mother called from her room. Her bad mood filled the atmosphere when she walked in. I narrowed my blue eyes as she turned her back to me. If I had to be born into a family, why not a nice one? My mother was horrible to me sometimes. I wished I was never born then. I jumped when my mother pinched me. "Why haven't you done that already?" she barked. I cringed and hastily started the burner. I heard a loud clatter and bang, and turned to see my mother clutching her right foot. A pan lay close by on the floor. "Go to school!" she hissed through clenched teeth. I didn't need to be told twice. "Yes mom." I hurried to gather all my things, put them in my backpack, and ran out the door, a faint glimmer of tears going down my face as I went.
I saw the school across the street and sighed. I hit the button for the crosswalk and scuffed my feet. I hate my mother! I thought angrily. The crosswalk light shone green, and I started walking. Halfway across, I saw a boy leaning against the pole. His body was twisted towards me in an instant, and he flipped his notes over, but he never looked up from them. Late? I asked myself. I was getting to stepping up on the curb. He looked up... AT ME! I panicked internally. Time seemed to have stopped at that moment. We stared at each other, my face a brilliant red. I ended up missing the curb. I tripped, feeling as if in slow motion, and landed softly. Softly? I repeated in my head. I opened my eyes slowly and blinked. My eyes widened with shock and embarassment.
I had landed on him! I struggled for words.
"I-I'm so sorry I did-didn't see where I was-"
He cut me off.
"Are you Kiva?" he asked curiously.
I stumbled. "Y-yes...?" I said, going a lighter shade of pink. The boy pulled me up by the elbow in one swift movement. Then I noticed something was different about him. His eyes were a crimson color, and there was something about him that I couldn't get a grip on...
"Kiva?" the boy asked. I shook my head, feeling slightly lightheaded. "What?" I said, coming out of my reverie. "Didn't you hear me?" he asked lightly. I shook my head. "Sorry," I said, flushing pink. "Im Kyoshi. You can call me Kyo." I nodded. Kyo smiled, and I blushed. He came a little closer to me, and I got instantly irritated. Can't he walk to school on his own? "Go away!" I said, swatting at him. He was...a little too kind. I stormed away, leaving him standing there. I grinned at the thought of him dumbstruck. I frowned. I swore I heard him laughing quietly as I looked away.

I sighed. All this homework I had to do! Like studying for the tests isn't enough? Growling under my breath, I headed out to the courtyard for break. I sat down and rested my head against the wall, closing my eyes. "Tired?" a familiar voice asked. My eyes snapped open immediatly as I looked around. Sitting next to me was Kyoshi. I grinned sheepishly. "Like you couldn't imagine." I laughed sarcastically. He smiled crookedly and looked up at the sky. Running a hand through his short black hair, he sighed and looked back at me.
I stared at his eyes, then allowed a small gasp. His eyes had shifted from blue, to a shimmering gold, and finally settled at a brilliant crimson red. My gaze snapped away at the sound of the bell. I gathered my books in hand and hitched my backpack on my back comfortably. Kyoshi bent toward me at last moment and brushed his lips against my cheek. When he pulled away my cheeks blushed bright red. "To class, then?" He asked me. I nodded. We walked to fifth period together and sat in our seats as soon as we entered the classroom. I looked at my schedule. Fifth period was science class. I sighed and prepared myself for the lecture on cells. "...so we'll start on the mitochondria..." Mr. Johnson began in his low monotone voice. Kyoshi made an irritated click in his throat and
reached his hand out to mine. He took my hand in his and held it there. Sucking in a deep silent breath, I blushed and leaned a little closer to Kyoshi. I slipped off into my thoughts. I imagined us swirling out on a beautifully decorated dance floor to a semi-fast music tempo, me in a silvery blue dress and him in a handsomly designed tux. Coming to, I noticed Kyoshi had drawn away. "Kiva, kindly open your textbook to page nineteen. I cannot afford you to waste my teaching time drooling about when you should be learning." Mr. Johnson said in his lame voice. I scanned my desk for any real drool and opened my book to page nineteen. My gaze traveled to Kyo. I desperatly wanted him to touch my hand again, or even talk to me, but he seemed absorbed in a book he was reading under the table. I would talk to him after school.
Chapter Two
The bell rang, loud and clear in my ears. Hissing in annoyance at its loudness, I scanned the crowd of rushing students for Kyoshi. My shoulders slumped. No sign of him. I started out the door and had just set foot in the hall when I felt a hand on my shoulder. I spun around with surprise to see Kyoshi. "Kyo!" I puffed. "You scared me." At those three silly words, he laughed and ran a hand through his hair. "I wanted to ask you something, Kiva." he said. I was mystified. "Will you...would you
go to the prom with me...?" He asked hesitently. I paused. The prom? I wasn't
All that good at dancing.....
"I'll help you." he offered, as though he could read my thoughts. After a few more moments of pondering, I agreed to go.
"What's with you and that new boy, Ki?" my best friend, Cheyenne, whispered to me. We were back in Trig for sixth period, which was almost over. "Nothing," I hissed back at her. "Why are you asking?" She opened her mouth to answer, but whatever she was going to say was cut off by a loud voice. "Miss Anderson, you'd better quiet the chatter and get back to work." Mrs. Abbott stated with irritation. I huffed and muttered, "Yes, Mrs. A.." and focused on my test questions. As I bubbled the last few questions, the bell sounded overhead. Students streamed out into the halls, eager to get home. We didn't have seventh period at our school, so we got out earlier than normal. "Seeya Ki!" Cheyenne, who was running down the hall ahead of me, shouted. I smiled and yelled, "Bye, Chey!" I walked over to my locker and was reeling my combination on my lock. I hastily put my books inside and closed my locker with the lock back on it. A shadow looming over me and a hand placed on my shoulder caused me to whirl around and give a frightened squeak. "Kiva, its just me. Calm down." Kyo said, putting his other hand over my mouth. Relaxing, I sighed and shoved his hand away from my mouth, smiling up at him. "At least it wasn't a serial killer, right?" I joked. He looked down at me with an unhappy expression. "Don't joke about that, Kiva. Follow me, and stay close." I wavered at his carefully placed tone, but nodded.
To be honest, I was scared. Wouldn't you be scared if your all-too-kind best friend starts to worry and pull me away like we were being chased by wolves? "Kyo, where are we going?" I asked him for the fifth time. Again, no response. Sighing and dropping back to stop, I hitched my backpack on both shoulders and hurried to catch back up to Kyoshi. I ran as fast as I could, but I lost sight of my friend. "Kyo?" I called. Oh no, I've lost him!
Chapter Three (Kyo's POV)
I stopped and looked back. "Kiva?" When her name had barely slipped from my mouth, a thick wall of fog rolled in, blocking the stretch of alleyway behind me. I gritted my teeth. Crap. This is such a bad time to lose Kiva. I felt a little guilty thinking that, but now was not the time to mull it over. Knife in hand, I ran towards the misty barrier. I broke through without a sweat, then a bouncing sensation flooded me, and I was being thrown back. I skidded on the ground, throwing my knife aside so I didn't cut myself. I coughed and sat up slowly. There was no way in hell I was doing that again. Then again, I really need to find Kiva. I hope she's alright. Pushing myself upright, I picked up my knife and started off to find a way around the fog.

(Kiva's POV)
I wandered around blindly in the fog. I felt a rejecting emotion swirl strongly around me. I blinked. The mist surrounding me suddenly felt unwelcoming and hateful, wanting to get rid of me this instant. I took a step backwards and felt something touch my leg. I squeaked and dropped my backpack, taking off running. As the mist thinned, I saw a tall shadow. I stopped. Was it Kyo? A pedophile? A homeless guy? Whoever he was, I wasn;t taking any chances. After a few minutes of searching, I found a corner to slid down into. I huddled up against it, my arms wrapped around my legs. Closing my eyes, I wished the fog would just clear up.
The faint of footsteps made my eyes snap open. I looked up, and saw Kyoshi looking down at me. The fog, I saw, had long cleared up. I must've fallen asleep. Looking back at Kyoshi, I found he'd extended his hand. "Well?" He murmured. For a long moment, I just stared at him. Two hours alone in the fog did a deal on me, that's for sure. Then I took his hand and slowly let him pull me up. As I watched the way he stared at me, I wondered how long it took for him to find me after I fell asleep. Tears welled up in my eyes. Why was I crying? Don't be such a baby, Kiva! I growled to myself. Kyo bent a little to look at my eyes. "Why are you crying, Kiva?" He asked quietly. I sniffled. "I asked myself the same thing." Smiling faintly, Kyo held out both his arms. I threw myself at him and sank into his embrace, and murmured into his shirt. "I dropped my backpack when I felt something touch me back there, Kyo. I'm glad you came when you did." Kyoshi laughed quietly and pulled back. "I'm sure it was nothing, Kiva. Come on, we need to go." I nodded and wiped my tears away.
I walked side by side with Kyo. I couldn't help but notice how the swing in his step jostled the knife sheathed in his pocket, and how his now-green gaze was fixed on the stretch of pathway in front of us. He glanced at me and smiled. "What?" I shook my head and looked away, blushing. Kyo chuckled, and we pressed on.
