( This is the second chapter of The Price of Love, which follows from this chapter. My other writings include: this. )
From the smile on my face, Ellie drew rage. More, even, then she had before. As her hand lashed out, toward my face, I ducked. Her open palm hit air, and in a matter of seconds, I was behind her. Ellie whirled around, lashing out at me again. This time, though the effect was slight, her fist hit my shoulder. I swallowed hard on the pain from the ring she was wearing; the only thing that really inflicted any pain. Naturally, because she hurt me, I, too, became enraged. My own hand flew to her cheek. The back of my hand made quick contact with her face, and, just as quick as the attack had come, it retreated. I moved backward, toward the large tree behind me. But Ellie wasn't the only one who was fast. She ran forward, as the shock from my slap wore off, and slung her foot foward. I dropped to the ground, my head a complete blur, as if this had been programmed into me. My mother had never encouraged me to fight, because she had gotten in so much trouble fighting when she was a child. Though it didn't help that she taught me all the best fighting moves. Her foot made contact with the tree's trunk, and I failed to hesitate in launching forward, toward her leg. As I grabbed it, Ellie became unbalanced. She fell to the ground, and gave me a freaked out look. I rose to my feet, dusted myself off, and crossed my arms. "I dare you to try that again," I spat, narrowing my eyes. Ellie's look of terror changed to one of disgust. Hate. She knew she'd lost. Again,
I just smiled.
