Spottedkit!

My tail twitched as I paced back and forth in my den. In the corner was Cloudfrost's nest, with the warrior inside. I was waiting for Spottedkit to come so we could run over the herbs some more. She was a natural, learning so quick and even saving someone's life today. She'd make a great medicine cat...I wonder where she is? The sooner we start, the better the training, the easier she'll become a medicine cat...Where was she?

Spottedkit fidgeted guiltily outside the medicine den, not yet seen by Snakefang. She wasn't sure she wanted to be a medicine cat, she wanted to be a warrior more than anything. Wanting to be a medicine cat more than anything, well, that was earlier. The four moon old kit sighed through her nose, worried that she would anger or disappoint the young medicine cat.
Finally deciding her decision, she entered the medicine cat den with distant bright green eyes. "Hello, Snakefang. Uh, I would like to talk to you privately." she murmured quietly, almost inaudibly.

[Snakefang]

I smiled as I looked over and found her there. "Hello, Spottedkit!" I meowed and sat down. "What would you like to talk to me about?" I was curious, for Spottedkit sounded...sad.

Spottedkit threw a guilty glance over her shoulder and continued to murmur quietly.
"Um, I, uh, can't be medicine cat apprentice..Um, I know that, er, you would like me to become a great medicine cat..but, er, well, I think, um, that I am, uh, not fit to be medicine cat."
Her bright green eyes were extremely apologetic, and she continued to shift her paws back and forth while her ears lay flat. The whole time, she held her green eyes against Snakefang's amber eyes. Not sure how he would react, she looked away with her ears flat.

[Snakefang]

"How come you think you aren't fit?" I asked, suprised, but I stayed calm. "You have natural skills of one, and you think fast. Why do you think you can't be one? If you want to be a warrior, I understand."

"I - I .." tears suddenly welled up in the kit's eyes. Turning to Snakefang, her bright green eyes shone like emeralds in the dazzling sun, glistening with unshed tears. "I faint at the sight of blood, broken bones, anything major. I - I just can't." she said solemnly, tears choking her for the first time in her life.

I felt sadness raise in waves. Spottedkit was going to become a warrior, probably, and I wasn't going to force her into becoming my apprentice. "Oh, thats...Thats...Well, ok, I guess..." I stuttered on my own words, and I had had hopes for this cat to become my appretnice.

"We can still be friends, I hope." Spottedkit said in an attempt to have a stronger voice. Brushing her long tail against his nose, she had tears falling from her eyes as she sprinted from the den, tears choking her. Not able to speak, she bounded on top of her den and approximately lying down and facing the rock. Her ears pricked when she heard the faint, powerful beating of silent wings, confusion and fear quickly filled the apprentice-aged kit.

"SPOTTEDKIT!!! LOOK OUT!!!" I ran out of my den as another eagle swooped down from the sky, it's talons outstetched, reaching for Spottedkit. I snarled and jumped onto it's back, clawing feathers out with all my might. The eagle's sharp beak left a large cut on my left front leg, blood seeping out. "Spottedkit! Run!" I yowled as I bit the eagle's neck.

Spottedkit froze as an eagle came into view, and Snakefang bravely got in the eagle's way to leap on it's back.
Having not heard the medicine cat, she scooted towards the edge in shock. Still, it's beak reached for her, and instead of picking her up, the eagle gave a sharp screech when some of it's feathers were pulled, startling Spottedkit badly. Having not noticed the medicine cat's leg wound, she toppled from the edge she was staring in shock at it, and hit the ground with a sickening thud, unconcious from the moment she hit the ground hard.

Snarling, I bit the eagle's wing, and it shook me off. I landed next to Spottedkit, and I looked over at her. "Are you alright?" She could tell me later, for the eagle screeched and swooped at us. I got over Spottedkit and slashed at the eagle's face. The eagle cawed in pain as my claws were raked over it. Then the eagle's talons were raked over my side. Ah! That hurt like fire!!! It burned, and I started to see spots, but I kept on my paws and gave all my strength into one last slash. The eagle screeched once again and took off, leaving me with a frightend kit and a nasty wound. I layed down next to Spottedkit, the blood flowing out of me. I couldn't treat myself...Could Spottedkit do this without fainting? "Help..." I whispered, pretending to be more hurt than I really was. Maybe her instincts would kick in...

[Cloudfrost]

Cloudfrost watched in terror as an eagle swooped in from the heavens, it's wretched claws outstretched. She saw the kit spotted kit hide and faint. She saw Snakefang dive onto the eagle with all claws and teeth. Eventually the eagle flew off without her assistance, but Cloudfrost could clearly see the medicine cat was injured. The injured white warrior nudged the small kit, "Come on, he needs your help!" she whined, she was trying to rouse the kit. She didn't know many herbs, any but the ones Snakefang treated her with.
Cloudfrost looked around confused, "Come on Spottedkit, your needed here." she edged on. With a fire to help, Cloudfrost dragged the two into the den as to make sure the eagle didn't carry them off.
"Come on you two, Spottedkit? Snakefang is in need of your help!" she pushed.

Spottedkit awoke in a hurry, hearing Cloudfrost's worried meows. She shook out her fur, and noticed right away that Snakefang was hurt. Shaky but still terrified, the little kit limped hurriedly towards the medicine den. "I need..marigold, cobweb, poppyseeds, burdock root, and dock leaves." she said, pulling out each familiar herb as she said them. Carefully grasping the herbs in a leaf, the calico she-cat limped rapidly back out and knelt beside Snakefang. She knew no other herbs but she thought that they would help.

Shakily, she took the burdock root and chewed it into a pulp. Gently squeezing the burdock root over the medicine cat's front leg, she squeezed until it was gone and she gently chewed a little bit of dock. Rubbing the dock quickly but accurately on the leg wound, she turned her head and let out a violent sneeze.

Sighing, the little kit wrapped cobweb over the deep scratch, and hopefully the bleeding wound would stop soon. Then she did the same routine to the four scratches on his side flank, worried the whole time he may die.

"Snakefang, eat these. It'll help with the pain, but it will make you sleepy as well." she tried to soothe, her voice still shaky. Grasping her teeth around the scruff of the medicine cat, she struggled to get him into one of the nests. Shaking still, in more of the fright from the eagle, she stepped back and began to wash her back left leg, which had a horrible bruise on it from the fall.

I smiled. "You did it! You didn't even faint from the blood or anything! You did it!" I stood up and licked the kit's head. "You have a warrior's heart and a medicine cats skills. Any cat with these together and bound to be a great cat!"

"I - I did what I just had to do.." she murmured, embarrassed by the medicine cat's praise. But her green eyes sparkled with joy, because he was still one of her best friends. Shaking out her dapple fur, Spottedkit patiently trotted outside, teeth bared and waiting for the eagle to come back. Having seen no eagle, the little kit tore across the clearing to the nursery to say goodbye to her friends.
