Koalpaw padded into the Apprentices' Den. It was strange to not be in the Nursery. Koalpaw took a deep breath and went deeper into the den. He looked around at the other apprentices, kind of hoping to see Frailpaw. He didn't know why. He just felt like he needed to see her. Koalpaw also wondered if he would make anymore friends. He only had one, and that was Tigerkit. But she was still in the Nursery. Frailpaw was defintiely NOT his friend; they just both weren't sure about each other. It was strange. They were like friends but enemies. Enemies but friends. They weren't frenemies, though. It was just weird. Koalpaw quickly shook his head from the buzzing thoughts about him and Frailpaw and thought about who his friend might be.

Frailpaw spotted kaolkit out of the corner of her eye. What was he doing here? He was a kit? Flashes came back to her as she remembered his ceremony. Oh yeah, that was right. He was an apprentice now. She better start calling him Koalpaw now. She padded up to him uncertainly. They had been enemies before the fight. But now, they were almost friends. They weren't but they almost were. She wasn't sure if it was right to talk to him. She looked at him suspiciously, "Hey, Koalki-paw." She said remembering paw at the last minute, "You're an apprentice now, huh?" She tilted her head, "Who's yoir mentor." She tended to make small talk when she wasn't sure what to say or was just bored. Right now, she was both. "You need help making your nest?"

Koalpaw was hoping to avoid Frailpaw in a way. 'Too late now,' he thought. "Yeah, I'm an apprentice now. My mentor is Rushingheart. So, where do you make your nest?" he asked toneless. He didn't mean to sound that way. It just came out. He also wondered why Frailpaw was even talking to him. Not like she never did. It just wasn't usual.

"Uh... wherever you want." She said, "You can make yours right by the entrance if you want. You know, so you can get out if you want to. Mine's over there by the corner." She shrugged. Unlike Koalpaw, she was comfortable and liked talking with people and could do it well. She took note of his voice. It was toneless. He usually sounded like that, she just didn't like it. it made him sound like a robot. Frailpaw shook her head. "Um... You liking training." She felt so stupid. She couldn't take it any more. "Oh! Are we friends or not!" She burst out, "It's killing me not knowing and just making small talk! I want to know whether we're friends and I can talk to you or we're enemies and I don't!" She looked at him in exasperation atwhat she had said, but was glad she said it.

Koalpaw wasn't expecting hearing this from Frailpaw. He really didn't know whether they were friends or not. "What do you think?" he asked. He waited for her to answer. If it took her too long, he would go ahead and start making his nest.

Frailpaw hesitated woth her answer, "I-I don't know what to think." She looked in his eyes, "I mean, things are so different now. We're older. We know more things. We're more mature." She shook her head, "Well... I'd say we are friends. we were young when we were against eachother and times have changed." She closed her eyes and whispered, "At least, I'd hoped that things have changed now. I-I-I... want to be friends." She then fell silent waiting for his response.

Koalpaw was shocked, yet he didn't know why. Didn't he expect this? Didn't he just want her to admit it? Maybe it was her hesitation. Koalpaw stared into her eyes as she stared into his. "So...what now?" he asked quietly. He apparently accepted the idea, but it was unsaid.
