Fernpaa looked around for her best friend Echopaw. Happiness sparked in her which had replaced her jealousy earlier that day ceremony. She was so jealous of Nightpaw about how pretty she was because she was scarred of losing someone else she thought loved her like Skywing.

Echopaw pretty much skipped into the apprentice den as happy as a clam. He was excited because he was an apprentice and he could hang out with his friends. Then he saw Fernpaw, his best friend. "Hey Fernpaw!" He seemed to call, his voice was happy, his eyes and everything seem to smile.

Fernpaw smiled at him. Echopaw! she meowed sweetly running over to him. She rubbed against him. I'm so happy that your an apprentice, she purred licking his cheek. She didn't realize she was being really affectionate until it was a little too late.

Echopaw smiled, but he wanted a little less, well what he felt was mothering, he wanted to be more responsible. "Fernpaw, I think we should calm down, I really want a little more responsibility and well don't take this as an insult, please, but sometimes I feel like your mothering me, can you just, maybe do it less?" Echokit meowed, trying to make it sound nice. He looked down, biting his lower lip, a little nervous that she would take it the wrong way. He felt something inside, towards her, but his unawareness of what is was, made it hard to explain. There was heat on the back of his neck that just seem to bubble and boil. His stomach ached with nervousness. He wasn't sure what to say anymore.
Echopaw wanted to say something, but he couldn't think of the words.
[he probably may admit more into his late apprentice days.]

Fernpaw's face flushed out of embarrassment and hurt. She took a step back and looked away from him. She flattened her ears. Ok that hurt. That hurt really bad. Oh Cloudclan I can't lose him too, she thought sadnened now. Oh....um...ok, she meowed quietly still not looking at him again.

Echopaw had noticed the sadness and his stomach soon felt as if it had been hit by a hard jagged rock. He felt bad, his tail seem to come and go around his paws as he seemed to shrank. "I didn't mean I don't like the attention, b-but I need to know what it is..." He felt he couldn't continue his sentences, couldn't. It was like his tongue had tied up in knots.

Fernpaw looked up at him. Oh no this is how it started before, she thought nervously. Know what? she asked nervously. He twitched her ears and curled her fluffy tail around her black paws.
