[ I've had problems with this story, but I've decided to write it out first before I draw a comic for it. Now, before I get started I figured I'll explain some things. I'm not a professional writer. My punctuation and formats might bother you. I apologize if they do. This story is being written for your own amusement. Not for you to suffer. So if you don't like it..don't read it! Duh!]
{This is what Beech's childhood/early teen years were like in my head. It will not be from his point of view. Third person only. Also, this story will contain slavery and death. If you are offended by either, read what I said above. Thank you and I hope this will answer some of your questions!~}
-Prologue-
Three newborn kits mewled as their white mother protectively wrapped around them. Her green eyes filled with worry as she stared at the third kit. He was smaller than his brother and sister. This normally wouldn't be a problem. But the white she-cat had learned the hard way with her first litter why size mattered in these parts.
She heard pawsteps. Was there another cat here? No, that was more then four.
The mother began to hiss until she realized who they were. "Coon! Dog! Come here and meet your new family members."
Coon raced past his brother, almost tripping the cream colored cat. He was more excited than a little boy on his birthday. Dog rolled his eyes and padded slowly over to their mother like a regular cat. "What did you name them?" Coon asked, sitting down and scoping the kittens out.
"I decided to name them after the trees Forrest told me about. Do you think he'll like that?" She asked, a smile on her muzzle. Dog rolled his eyes and got a bit snappy. "He better. How do you even know those stories he tells you are real anyways? Cats that work together? Yeah right."
The mother sighed and didn't even respond. She had to believe her mate. What else did she have to believe in? There was no hope here. "The dark tom's name is Oak. The girl is Willow and the little guys name is Beech." She began to purr. She loved their names. Usually the names given to cats here were nothing close to cute.
She watched as Dog glanced over to Beech when she called him little. He didn't say anything though. "So..how was your day?" Now Coon finally spoke up. "Ace told us we're getting really close to go see the fi- We get to go places." The way he stopped himself would of course make his mother suspicious.
"He's letting you see the fights?!" She almost stood up, but remembered she had other kits that needed a lot more attention at the moment. "What he's teaching you boys....isn't right. There's nothing wrong with not being perfect."
"Frostbite? You here?" Another male voice called out, making all three of them jump in fright.
"Forrest, you scared us half to death!" Frostbite snapped, her tail lashing as her mate went over to the group. The ginger tom raised one of his cat eyebrows and chuckled. "Why would you be scared of?"
Frostbite eyed her second son. Forrest looked down as well. Now he knew why. "They'll make an exception. I know they will." Forrest tried to reassure her, although he didn't feel like he could believe himself either.
Hours past and Frostbite started to believe that they were all safe. But no. They came. They always do.
A black and white tom and a dark tabby with matching blue eyes were now among them.
Ace and Alice.
The tyrants of the alley.
Ace leapt down from a beam and circled Frostbite and her newborns. "I'm so happy to see that you had your kits, Frostbite. May I examine them?" Forrest began to growl, but was silenced by Alice quickly.
Frostbite nodded and slowly unwrapped her tail to reveal all three of her kits. She flinched when he reached over and grabbed each of them by their neck. He picked them up so gently. So nicely. Like kittens should be handled. Ace was sick. Disgusting.
"I'm so sorry to say this, but.. this one doesn't pass our test." Ace kicked Beech across the ground with his front paw. Why wasn't he gentle then? "You know what has to happen!" He meowed as he unsheathed his claws. "A death must occur to cover up a mistake. That is law."
Forrest suddenly pushed Alice out of the way and jumped in front of Ace. "I..I volunteer. You're not touching my son ever again." He sat and tried to act brave, but he had just volunteered for death. Ace did not looked pleased. "You are one of my prized fighters! I would never take your life." He suddenly smiled. "I can't, but another cat can."
Ace turned to face the two brothers. "Dog! Coon! Do as I taught you!" He ordered, then picked up a white paw to point at Forrest. They glanced at each other and Coon shook his head, but the other brother whispered something to him.
The two bounded over to Ace and bowed. They turned to Forrest and hissed in unison. Coon leapt on the ginger tom and pinned him down. Dog barred his teeth, but Ace motioned for him to stop. "Have any last words, outsider?"
Forrest glanced over to Frostbite, who now had her kits in her protection.
"My son will stop you. He'll prove you wrong and do something great."
Ace rolled his eyes and flicked his tail for Dog to continue. The young cat closed his eyes and bit down on Forrest's neck until the body below him was limp.
[Writer's Note: If you have any questions please ask. ^_^" Also, if you were wondering, Forrest named himself liked forest because he used to be a clan cat. Not an official real member of VWW though. I have no idea which clan either. Coon and Dog were Frostbite's first litter, but with another tom. Hence the reason why Dog doesn't not like Forrest.]
