(Private to Beech.)
Lately, Koisplash had delved into her work as deputy more so than usual--which was saying something. She wished she could say it was for a selfless reason--that she was just being devoted to her Clan, doing what was right, all that jazz, but really, she just wanted to keep her mind off of Hawkstar. Her father. Her RockClan father, who had other kits that were her half-siblings. Shut up! she mentally scolded herself. Whining about it won't get you anywhere. Now, as she padded into camp, the sun was dipping below the horizon. The once blue sky was now a dark, burning orange melded with pink, and the shadows in camp were growing longer and longer. Koisplash sighed, dropping her kill--a mouse--on top of the fresh-kill pile and moving towards the warriors' den. However, she saw something out of the corner of her eye: the leader's den. Normally, this wouldn't bother her. It was just there, as regular as the medicine den and nursery. But just seeing it drew her attention immediately. Beechstar was in there, wasn't he? He seemed to be in there all the time. She had rarely seen him over the past week, and it worried her. Was he ill? No, he couldn't be. He'd be in the medicine den. Besides, he'd looked fine when she last talked to him. But...then again, he hated the medicine den. He'd made that quite clear to her before. If he was sick, he probably would avoid going in there until it was obvious his disease was fatal. Or maybe he was just sleeping. Maybe she was just over-thinking things. Maybe she only was using this as an excuse to see him. The calico made her way over to the leader's den, then, and stepped inside. It was a bit dark by now, so she couldn't make out a clear outline of the tom. "Beechstar?" she called. "Are you in here?"

Beechstar pawed a dead mouse that had been in his possession for a few hours. It sort of stank, but it still wasn't the reason why he wasn't eating. When he heard pawsteps, the leader's head whipped back to look at the visitor. Oh, it was just Koisplash. He couldn't stop a cough that escaped his mouth. No, don't give her hints that you're sick. "Yes, I'm here."

If cats had eyebrows, Koisplash would be rising one right now. A cough. Not showing up outside his den for days. Not eating the mouse in front of him. These seemed to be a little too perfectly placed, as if they were lined up as signs that he was ill. "What's with you?" she asked. She tried to sound irritated, but she couldn't prevent the concern that leaked into her voice. "I hardly see you around. You never seem to leave...this." She waved her tail tip vaguely around to indicate the den. ...Okay, no more beating around the bush. Koisplash plunged straight on. "Are you sick?"

"No." Beechstar looked away from her, knowing she would probably try to get him to go to the medicine cat's den. Getting scolded by Waspwing was the last thing he wanted. "Maybe." So what if he stayed in the den a lot? It was where he always was. "Sort of." Oh god, she's going to make me go to Waspwing, isn't she? "Yes, I'm sick. But I'm not moving. I don't need that icky plant stuff to make me better."

Wonderful. Her suspicions had to be right this time. Koisplash let out a noise that sounded very much like a combination of a sigh and a groan. "Lying around in here and playing with a mouse isn't going to make you better," she said a little snappishly in response. "You could have greencough, or something worse." And in the middle of greenleaf, too. Without another word, she reached to try and push on Beechstar's shoulder. She'd drag him to the medicine den if she had to, dang it.

"Then let the herbs be used on someone who really needs them!" Beechstar snapped, hissing when she gave him a shove. So he responded by attempting to smack her back, but on the top of her head. Beechstar had done much worse before, so he definitely wasn't scared to give Koisplash a little slap. "Why do you even care?"

"If you don't do anything about it, soon you'll be the 'someone who really needs them," Koisplash answered shortly. She felt a smack to the top of her head for a response, but it wasn't too hard. She only scowled and continued to push on Beechstar's shoulder, though a little more roughly this time. She stopped, however, at his question--being taken off-guard for a moment. However, Koisplash recovered quickly. "Why wouldn't I care?" she retorted. "You're my best friend! No--you're more than my best friend, you're--to me--" She fumbled with her words for a moment. "--Never mind. I'm just...I'm worried, alright? I don't want you to...to lose another life if you get severely ill."

Beechstar pressed his ears against his head and turned completely to her. Sitting up, he got more angry. "See! You don't even know what I am to you! Why would you care?" Gosh, he was being ridiculous. Maybe because of the sickness? "And so what if I lose a life? I'll be fine after I do. It's not like I'm on the brink of death. Quit worrying so much."

He's delirious, Koisplash thought. She gritted her teeth, now using her head to shove him forward and trying to ignore him. But it was hard to pretend she wasn't listening--his ramblings kept affecting her, as if drilling a hole into her head. It was the last sentence, however, that caused something to snap within her. Quit worrying so much. At that, she lifted her head and stared at Beechstar, long and hard. Her emerald eyes were cold with fury, and her fur was standing up along her spine. "'Quit worrying so much'?!" Koisplash shouted. "Why shouldn't I? Almost everything you do nearly kills you! You always do stupid, stupid things, but you know what?! You always make up for them, and you do things brave and heroic and--and--it makes it harder, to be angry at you when you do that! You're--you're smart and you care and you try, you try and you work so hard and you constantly think you're not good enough, when you are! You're good enough for me, you're good enough for your Clan, you're--you're good enough! But you don't believe that, and you keep trying anyway, and I hate it when you beat yourself up over everything because--because I--I love you!" She stood there, panting slightly, eyes still blazing. It took a few moments before her words sunk in, and she realized what she had just said. Her eyes widened, and suddenly her fur felt very, very uncomfortably hot. And prickly. Oh, CloudClan, why did I say that last part out loud?! I don't love him in that-- that way...right? I--never mind. He's delirious, right? He won't remember what I said... She shook her head to clear it of those confusing thoughts, quickly regaining her brisk and no-nonsense manner. "I--right. Never mind. Forget I said that...well, you'll forget anyway...now, come on." With that, she leaned down and clamped down on Beechstar's shoulder fur. Desperate times called for desperate measures. She had to drag him.

(WHAT IS LOVE? BABY DON'T HURT ME. DON'T HURT ME. NO MORE)
Beechstar stood up and started to move out of the den. "Okaaaayyy. Just stop touching me. I'm not your kit." But then he paused, acting as if he didn't even hear the love confession. "Do you have kits? Do we have kits? ....I'm so confused." The sick leader stopped at the entrance of his den. "So...you think of me...as your leader? Right?"

(-head moves back and forth-)
Finally, he was moving. Koisplash tried to take deep breaths and assure herself that no, he wasn't going to remember her confession. Nope, not at all. She followed him to the entrance of the den, keeping close in case he fell over. "No, we don't have kits. Yes, you're my leader. Now let's go," she replied curtly.

Beechstar tripped over his own paws and landed face first onto Koisplash's shoulder. After a few moments, he turned his head slightly to speak. "Do you want kits? I can make that possible, you know." The leader paused, smacking his lips. "Hmm...but you're deputy though. Can deputies have kits? When I was little no one wanted to have kits. I don't know why my mom had me. Everyone haaattteeeddd me. Maybe it's because...I started things. Hmmm...what did I start, Koisplash?"

If Beechstar kept this up, Koisplash's head was probably going to explode. She was practically gnashing her teeth at this point. "For the love of CloudClan, shut up," she snapped, pushing at him so he wasn't putting all of his weight on her. She continued trying to walk towards the medicine den, hoping rather futilely that the other cats in camp wouldn't notice.
(So, should I make a new thread in the medicine den?)

(no Zach can get his butt over here)
Beechstar tripped once more but landed on the ground this time. "Can you not do that? I don't want to move." He rolled onto his back and started to kick his paws at the air. Beechstar coughed once, but then began a coughing fit, not able to control it and make it stop.

(fffttt whyyy)
She opened her mouth as if to snap at him again, but only ended up letting out a sigh. The sight of Beechstar on the ground like this was...sad. Not worrying in the least, though. Nope. Not at all. Right now, forcing him to walk would most likely be dangerous for his health--however fragile it may be. "Okay, okay," Koisplash said. "I'll...go get Waspwing. Or Fernpelt. Or either of them can come over here, or..." Oh, great. She was rambling now, too.
