Mistypaw padded into the medicine cats' den. "Forestbreak! Clovepetal! Sorry to bother you but I have a thorn in my pad and it is bothering me." The she-cat took a few steps forward then waited for one of them to answer.

Forestbreak nodded. "All right, come over here," she mewed, gesturing with her tail. She glanced at the apprentice's paw. "It doesn't look too bad. I'll take it out and then put some marigold on, just in case." The medicine cat padded to the edge of the den, fetched some marigold, and padded back. She set the marigold down next to her and sat in front of Mistypaw.
"Hold your paw up," she said simply.

Mistypaw nodded and lifted her paw. She was thankful the medicine cat was here, her paw was getting bothersome.

Forestbreak wrapped her teeth around the base of the thorn and swiftly yanked. The thorn slid out smoothly and easily, and she spat it out, sending it skittering across the den floor and into the corner. Then, she took some marigold from next to her and hastily chewed it into a poultice.
Once it was chewed, she began applying it to Mistypaw's pad. "This will fight off infection," the medicine cat explained as she finished smearing the pulp on.

Forestbreak nodded. "Anytime. If your pad doesn't stop hurting in a few days, come to me as it may be infected." She flicked her tail in a goodbye and padded to the back of the den.
"Goodbye, Mistypaw," she replied, and began sweeping some dried herbs into a corner.
