Viperpaw made her way eagerly inside the spacious den, her serpentine eyes alight with mirth and energy. In her jaws she held a wad of moss to be made into a nest. The Turkish Van, though obvious to her that the den was practically abandoned, was more than excited to live in the Apprentices' Den.
Viper made her way to the center of the den, where she knew it would be kind of warmer. She made her nest and tried it out, sighing in content as the plush feeling washed over her. "This is so[/i much better than the Nursery," she murmured.

Nightpaw's eyes twinkled with excitement as she looked around the apprentice's den, satisfied with her newly made nest. She circled around a few times, then lay down, relaxing in the warmth and softness of her bed. She closed her eyes for a few moments, then blinked them open again when she heard small scuffling noises. She spotted Viperpaw over by the center of the den, and heaved herself to her paws in order to greet her. "Hi!" she mewed. She never really had formally met Viperpaw, but she would probably be seeing her more now, so she might as well get to know her a bit. "Why are hanging out over there by yourself?"

Viperpaw looked up in mild surprise. She smiled brightly at the greeting. "Hello~ Enjoying your first few days of apprenticeship?" Viper asked casually. Her sleek body lifted up with little effort as she stood. Her tail sweeper against the ground.
Viperpaw tilted her head. "I was merely trying out my nest. It turns out I took longer than expected," she purred, just dancing in her eyes.

"I am, Fadingecho just took me out to see the territory," Nightpaw mewed Viperpaw. "What's it like having your mom for a mentor? Well, she's my adopted mom, I don't remember who your mom is. Have you started your training yet?" She sat up, wondering what to do next.
(Sorry, lazy.)

"That's pretty awesome! Sandleaf hasn't taken me out yet, but I guess she's still a bit busy with all her other duties, like looking after kits," she mused absently, the glimmer in her eyes a tad stronger than before.
Viperpaw shrugged absently. "It's familiar but alien at the same time, I guess. Like, you know that you have some connection with her because she partly took care of you, and it's alien because you never knew her as something other than a mother."

"Maybe we'll be able to train together!" Nightpaw mewed excitedly. The thought of having another friend she could train with made her happy. She hadn't seen her kithood friends, Sweetpaw and Wetpaw, since they were made apprentices, and she had felt a bit lonely when she first came in. "Do you miss all the kits everywhere?" she asked quietly, not sure if Viperkit would feel the same about leaving the nursery as she did.

"We could! That would be so much fun!" she squealed in delight. Viperpaw bobbed back and forth on her heels in excitement. A grin was evident on the Turkish Van's face. At Nightpaw's question, Viperpaw lowered her ears and the happy face she wore slowly deteriorated. "Kind of. I haven't seen my sister Milkpaw in ages, actually. I'm starting to worry for her," she muttered.

Nightpaw enjoyed watching Viperpaw smile, and when Nightpaw mentioned kits, she was sad to see it fade from her face. And she couldn't relate to much, since she had no blood relatives in the clan. Not knowing what else to say, she murmured, "I'm sorry. Well, at least you know who your relatives are. I don't even know where I'm from." Somehow the thought hadn't bothered her much, but lately she had become aware of the whispers around the clan. Nightpaw didn't know where she was from, and for all anyone knew she could have been kittypet or a rogue. "Sorry, I shouldn't annoy you with my own worries," she mewed so Viperpaw didn't think she was being selfish or annoying.

"What? Bother you? Of course not! Why would I be bothered by someone like you? I know how you feel. Even when I met Milkpaw, I just don't feel .. connected. Like I'm really her sibling, you know?" she sighed.
Viperpaw shook her head. She tried for another winning smile, but ended up a half-smile. "Why not take our mind of this? D'you want to eat? I'm hungry."

"Yeah, let's do that, Nightpaw agreed, pushing all thoughts about her past to the back of her head. A bit more of her cheerful self started to appear once again as she padded out of the Apprentice's den to get some food. She picked a plump bird off the top of the pile for them to share and scurried back to Viperpaw. "How does that look?" she asked, hoping that Viperpaw was satisfied with her choice.

Viperpaw felt a gush of relief surge through her. At least the awkward sadness and tension was lifted off of the two.
A happy smile replaced his somber expression. Her stomach grumbled at the sight of the blackbird that hung in her jaws. "That's perfect! Come sit by me, yeah?" she purred, patting the spot beside her with a paw. Her serpent-like eyes brightened considerably.

Nightpaw padded over to Viperkit and settled down next to her. The scent of still-warm blackbird filled her nose, and she guessed that it had been freshly caught. She opened her jaws and laid the prey gently on the ground, then took a juicy bite. "This is really good," Nightpaw mumbled around the feathers. She made sure to leave a bit more than half for Viperpaw to eat, and when she was done she started to groom herself. "Hey, if the feathers aren't too messy the elders might like some for their bedding," Nightpaw suggested after she was satisfied with her clean pelt.

"Oh, we could decorate their nests with the leftovers too~" she suggested with an excited little giggle. Licking her lips, Viperpaw bent her head and took a bite out of the blackbird, letting the juices flow into her mouth and over her tongue. She inwardly sighed at the taste. She finished her half of the meal. Viper lifted a paw and cleaned herself off, using her tail to gather up all the nice-looking feathers into a pile.

"I'm they would like that," Nightpaw joked with Viperpaw. "That way they won't have to get up to eat." Nightpaw observed the clean feathers that Viperpaw had placed in a small pile. They looked suitable for a nest, and it was hard to tell they were ever part of something that was eaten. "They look good. I can't even tell that they were from a piece of fresh-kill," Nightpaw meowed happily. "We'll take them to the elder's when we are done," Nightpaw suggested.
(New thread in the elder's den?)

Viperpaw burst out laughing again, ears slightly burning with all the amusement coursing through her. "I'm a genius, aren't I?" she joked, playfully bumping her shoulder to Nightpaw's as an act of friendliness. She nodded in agreement, rising up to her feet. "We should. Can we go now? Like right now? That way we can get a start on our apprenticeship duties."
(Yeah sure.)
