It had been some time, maybe over a moon, since Beechstar's return from whatever journey he'd taken to who knows where. Whatever it had been, Koisplash didn't have any idea of. She could only guess that he'd perhaps gone back to the Twolegplace for some time, visited his old home, but again, it was just a guess.

She flicked her tail as she studied his den from some distance out in camp, in contemplation, a sparrow she'd meant to eat left neglected at her paws. Maybe she should go in. She hadn't seen him for a while, and it was bothering her. Beechstar was more than just her Clan leader: he was her best friend. He meant more than enough to her. It was her job, for crying out loud, to help him, and CloudClan be Xed if she ever let anyone or anything hurt him.

He was one of the few who were still around from when she was a kit, an apprentice, a young warrior. Almost everyone else had died or disappeared, and there was still something that always got lodged in her throat, somehow, whenever she remembered Oakspirit. Koisplash hated taking things like memories of that for granted, something she had sworn not to do again, especially after the little...revelation that she'd had with Maplefrost being her half-brother (and it was here that she mentally gave Hawkstar a sarcastic thank-you). She had responsibility on her shoulders and a place to maintain, it would do no good to be weak at this time.

So that was, naturally, why she now got to her feet and walked into the den. She strode in, head nearly brushing the ceiling, and then paused. She stared into its depths, back paws still at the entrance.

"Beechstar?" Her voice was loud and clear. "Are you in there? Come on. I want to talk to you."

Beechstar lifted his head slowly from his moss nest. He had been curled in a ball and was sleeping quite intently. His eyes blinked at the deputy and he almost put his head back down. The tom struggled to his feet and smacked his lips a few times. "Yes, I'm here. Not quite awake I'm afraid."

It probably said something that Koisplash wasn't the least bit surprised to see that he'd been asleep. She sighed, taking a few more steps before sitting down, tail curling around her paws. Her whiskers twitched, as she paused for several moments.

"Where were you?" Her question came out more harshly than she'd intended. The calico realized it the second the words left her mouth, and she had to cough a little to clear her throat before continuing, less loudly. "When you left on that journey you said you took. Where did you go? How do you know you've changed?"

More questions were tumbling out of Koisplash the more she spoke, and she had to clamp down on the third so as not to get carried away. She didn't want to sound as if she was interrogating Beechstar.
