Hey! I'm new, and though I've roleplayed before, I'm still confused about certain aspects of this particular site.
How do you, for instance, get to see if people replied to your post?

So if you see the participated button next to your name press it and it will say new. If it says new then someone replied.

You can also edit your settings (by editing your profile) so that you get a Notification if someone replies to a thread you're in. That may just be the Participated thing Dove mentioned, though.
But other than that you basically just have to check the thread regularly, or talk to people via PM about it.
