Lyric trotted toward the river, sighing. She looked around when she heard a noise. She noticed a cat coming her way. The gray and white cat crouched down, narrowing her eyes at the figure.
"What do you want?'

The skinny youngling had been on his way to the river for a drink, but it seemed that another cat was already there. Unfortunately, Lyric didn't seem awfully friendly. Ears half-flattening, Vortex stopped a few fox-lengths away and spoke.
"I'm just here for some water. No need to be so hostile." He unsheathed his claws uncertainly, hoping that he wouldn't have to fight. The river was usually neutral territory.

The cat - a youngling - didn't seem as dangerous as she thought. She probably looked like an idiot, lifting her hackles to something that small. Lyric stood up straight, flicking her tail.
"My apologies." she meowed quietly, staring at him with an uncertain light in her eyes.

The she-cat was swift to go from hostile to neutral. A little too quick, in the American Shorthair's eyes. He wasn't sure whether or not he could trust this DeathClanner, but better to be safe than sorry in a place like this.
Not responding verbally, Vortex hesitantly padded upstream and crouched to lap at the water. Provided that he wasn't going to get attacked, the youngling planned on leaving as soon as he was done.

Lyric watched the younger cat drink the water. So, she decided to speak up. "What is your name? I am Lyric." she meowed, sitting down once again.

He was startled when the older cat spoke again, abruptly sitting up and turning to face Lyric. "Uh, I'm Vortex," the brown-and-white feline stated. She could probably tell that he was new, which wasn't necessarily a good thing. Inexperience could be fatal in DeathClan.

Lyric looked him up and down once. He seemed normal enough, like he wouldn't attack her. But, he was still a youngling, and she could probably beat him easily. "Nice to meet you. How long have you been here?"

That wasn't a question which Vortex wanted to answer. He'd only been in DeathClan for about a moon, and telling the truth would expose his weakness. "I've been here for a while, but I've mostly stayed close to my den," the youngling meowed. Maybe it was a transparent lie, considering that he probably looked young. Besides, Vortex didn't even have a den yet. He'd been sleeping in bushes and trees, but the she-cat didn't need to know about that.

Lyric gave a small shrug. "That's nice, I suppose." she meowed, yawning.

Was the older cat really not suspicious of his reply? Tail-tip twitching, Vortex decided to keep this cat talking. Perhaps he could find a way to get something valuable out of her, whether it be a free meal or something else.
"How about you? You seem like you've been around for a while, Lyric."
