I walked along the tree branch, silently balancing myself. I was trying to look above the fences over by the twoleg place. I stretched my neck, trying to get a closer view. Maybe trying to see my birthplace, but alas I was too short to stretch out long enough. Sadly though, I didn't pay attention to that factor and I ended up going down. Straight down into the sucking mud. I struggled around, being able to pull out my forearms and down, but the lower half was being sucked down. The shoulder strength I possessed wasn't going to be nearly enough to pull myself out.
I winced, the pulling force was starting to crush my lower half. I was gritting my teeth, my rusty vocal cords not willing to croak out any noises. I looked around, almost too calm to be sane. When my eyes spotted something moving towards myself.

His eyes narrowed, looked down at the creature below. How many times were small cats going to get themselves stuck into the depths of the swamp. "Should I let this one drown? The last one ran away." He leaped down from the fence. The large gray-blue tomcat sighed and manuevered through the muck calmly, letting his strides be slow. Struggling only made you sink faster. He attempted to grab the cat by the scruff and toss it out of the muck.
After that he got out of the mud and shook his pelt. "Tch.. Look what you cats make me do. I don't usually keep my pelt exactly awe-worthy but this is ridiculous." He muttered while cleaning the mud from his pelt. "What is with pitiful felines being sucked into muck? We will lose more members to muck then battle. What kind of reputation would that be?" He sighed and lashed his tail.
"Surrendering to mud, brat?"

I almost gasped as I was pulled out and tossed. I walked with light feet the rest of the way onto land, silently observing the mess my little fall had mad. I grimaced briefly, thinking of what could have happened to me if this older cat had not appeared. I looked over at the gray cat, blinking expressionlessly. I bowed my head down at the older cat, my sign of thanks. I finished the bow and sat down, starting to clean the much out of my dark coat. I tore out the chunks of rotted moss and licked away the water grime. I ended my little cleaning session by spitting on the ground.
My blank gaze was set on the other cat and I brought my head into a motion as to were I was beckoning him forwards. I could at least help clean his back. This older cat did in fact save me skin. I whipped my tail and let my eyes soundlessly burn into him.

He shook his head and flicked his tail. "Perfectly capable of keeping myself neat, thank you." I'd rather drown in that swamp then let a stranger groom a hair on my body. He thought coldly. "But you can do me a solid and give me your name, also maybe a reasoning for why you were in the swamp in the first place. Did your mother never tell you to watch where you swim?" He grinned.
"My name is Vale, if that counts for anything." He flicked an ear and sat down. "I'd say pleasure is all mine but this is certainly to no degree pleasing me." He flicked his tail, which made drops of mud splatter the ground. "You are the second cat to stupidly scavenge the swamp. Just what went through your mind, or did nothing go through, was this all a mere freak accident of some sort?" He inquired.
"Likely, I suppose."

I cocked my head. Fine, I offered. Don't complain about it then. I looked down for a moment when my name was asked of me. I knew my name and I wasn't that fond of it, but I didn't hand it out freely considering I didn't speak all that freely either. Well, I rarely spoke at all. I looked back up and Vale and started walking towards him. At my current distance the only thing heard would be something resembling the croak of a frog. As I neared the gray tomcat I leaned towards his ear.
"Holly..." I finally spoke or at least made a noise that could resemble speaking. My voice was very deep and cracked. It sounded far beyond my age. Far too quiet. I walked backwards, edging away from Vale. Slightly relaxing my body, but staying light, I listened further to the other cat. Mentally, I was frowning at his comments on my fall, but I lacked the knowledge of expressing myself. I tossed to head to indicate that I had been on the bent and hanging branch above our heads. I looked back at him, keeping my silence like a precious item.
