Misty peered at the humans and her friend mers. Studying her newfound "friends" making signs. Slowly she approached the glass, her eyes narrowed the whole time. M-i-s-t-i. She traced the symbols on the glass.

Seeing Allure approach the glass, Jinta floated after her, amazed. Without speaking for a moment, she simply studied the motions that the Coral Mer was making with her hands.
She didn't understand any of them, and she drifted her gaze to the humans. The man who seemed to be in charge and another woman had their heads slightly cocked. The woman's face lit up suddenly and began gesturing and talking animatedly to the man.
She lifted her hand towards them, two fingers bent in a typical Moon gesture. Realizing they probably couldn't understand that, she offered them a cautious look. Not quite a smile--they didn't deserve that--but not disdain either. She let her pale hand fall to her side, accidentally brushing her ribcage. She inhaled sharply, her face contorted with pain. The water helped... Just not much.
Returning her gaze to Allure, she noticed that the scarlet Mer was still making her hand signals. Curious, Jinta said quietly to her, "Are you... communicating with them?"

Coral was waiting for a reply, but she answered the Moon Mer that approached anyway. "Yes. It's one of their languages called sign language." She shrugged. "It's kinda easy actually."
***
"That one right there, the one with the long tail, she said her name was Coral. She's waiting for you to say something," Chloe said to her boss. When she returned her attention to the glass, however, her hand went to her mouth. "That one is injured," she said, half factual and half out of shock." Chloe walked closer to the glass, eyes on the Mer that had cringed at the touch of her ribs. "Where are you hurt?" She tried to say, hoping one of the other mers that seemed to know sign language could translate.

(You needed to ask me permission if you want to know any English language. You can't just understand all of it, more like fragments of words. That also goes to Rainpaw. You can't know how to write your name in English without asking. >.<) Allure nodded, not realizing she had slipped into English and that nodding was a human sign. Upon remembering she was actually around other mers again, she looked momentarily at Jinta and mouthed "yes" in their language. She could recognize some of the words that the female human was saying, but it was harder. "Where...you...hurt...." The human's question was now directed at the Moon Mer. Allure hadn't realized what had happened back there. The male human had seemed to know what was happening, however, and after his eyes widened he had rushed away immediately. *** How could he have been such an idiot? Not realizing one of the Mers was injured. The man threw off his white coat and rolled up his sleeves as he ran up the stairs. He burst into the area that was located above the tank, seeing the rippling water that the mers were under. This is such a stupid idea, Tristan told himself, realizing he very well might be attacked by one of the mers. He stuck his hand in the water, swishing it around to let the mers know he was there before taking out again. With that, he sat down with his knees up, waiting for hopefully the silver mer to come up and accept his offer for help. And that hopefully he wouldn't be face to face with the more hostile mers. Tristan was aware that they could maneuver on land for a bit, and he didn't want to have to leave the Moon Mer untreated.

"Um..." Jinta stammered. The human had noticed. And the unidentifiable mer could understand. Shaking her head as if to rid it of thoughts, she stuttered, "Uh... My... ribcage? I don't know how to--to communicate..." She trailed off. "The first... Fishermen..." she said lamely, then noticed the male coming to the top of the tank. He reached a hand in, and she recoiled as she felt the disturbance in the water, then glanced to the mer with the thick scales, remembering her translation of what the human had said. Jinta swished her thin tail in the water, propelling her closer to the surface. She lifted her head out of the water a tail-length away from the male, pursing her lips and contracting her eyebrows, trying to determine exactly what this was. Her auburn hair now felt cold on her back, hitting the cool air. (she's kind of naive. )

(I asks permissions?)
Coral watched the male and female usher about. With a frown, she watched everyone burst to action.
***
At the same time, Chloe was watching also. With a frown, she looked back at the other mer who understood sign language and said simply, I help you? In water? I mean no harm. Stupid idea. They'll say no.

(Depends on how Coral learned it. She can know a bit of it, but keep this realistic. She still can't be I PERFECT TRANSLATOR BACK OFF or anything xD) Allure's ear fins twitched again as she felt the disturbance in the water from above. Her eyes narrowed, unsure as to whether the male human really wanted to help. Cautiously she approached the surface of the water, staying a bit farther than Jinta and letting out a small low hiss. She wanted to be sure of the man's intentions before getting closer. ***
Tristan could tell the red mer didn't like him. It was pretty obvious. He didn't exactly know sign language, which made communicating with her a bit more complicated. A drop of sweat ran down his face, as he didn't want to provoke any of them. The scary part was that the scarlet mer wasn't even the most hostile one. That spot was occupied by the swamp mer, who had yet to appear. "Help," he stated, hoping that Allure at least knew that. He pointed to Jinta and said it again. "Help her."

Jinta felt Allure rise up behind her in the wster, and she turned her head, sensing the scarlet mer's hostility immediately. She retreated a bit from the male, glancing nervously from him to Allure. She had instantly developed a certain following of ALlure's actions--she seemed sensible, and at least to know what she was doing better than Jinta.
"What's he saying?" she whispered to her, biting the inside of her lip hard, her face scrunched up in shadows of confusion. "Do you know?"
Not being completely submersed in the water, breathing was becoming a bit harder--though she was a Moon Mer, and accustomed to living near the surface, and she could survive for almost a full day out of the water, no Mer could survive that long completely comfortable.
Air being harder to reach, her breaths became more ragged, and they pulled at her ribcage, demanding a certain level of freedom. She cried out in pain, ducking her eyes to the water. The sudden, sharp movement of her gills did nothing to help, and she allowed herself to sink underwater, closing her eyes and taking a couple deep breaths.

Chloe's eyes widened at the sight of the Mer sinking. Without waiting for the others to reply, she rushed to the supply room, grabbed a wet suit, pulled it on with her clothes, and snatched a pair of goggles, slapping them on as she ran back to the tank. The doctor swished her hand around in the water, as Tristan did, then slipped into the cool liquid, careful to avoid any mers. I wont harm you, Chloe signed quickly. I'm here to help. Chloe then turned in the water, very slowly, and sunk to the bottom a good ten feet from the mer that was injured. Taking light steps forward, hands out to show peace, she approached the fallen creature, hoping no others would attack her. She knew it was a stupid idea, but the lives of the beings captured in a glass box mattered more to her at the moment than her own health. Now was the last act of courage for humans and the test of hostility the Mers gave them.
*** The Cave Mer watched with interest as the others communicated. Her small knowledge of the hand-language had been discovered by her when she watched divers use them as signals underwater. Soon she had made herself a mental dictionary, but still was fuzzy on many words, and all the words spoken "Yelp," The man ordered. That didn't seem right. "Halp har." Coral still had no idea what he was saying, but the sight of Jinta falling with a gasp made her bold to action, darting around in search of a way to bring her to the surface. But Coral gasped as the woman splashed into the water and huddled against the glass. Mustering her courage, she fought her instincts and swam to Jinta's side, ensuring she would manage for a while long, as far as she could tell, then rushed back to searching.

(Jinta isn't really sinking. She is completely conscious, just needs to breath a bit.) Allure didn't have the chance to answer before she saw Jinta sink down a bit. She was still breathing, and awake, but apparently the other human didn't know that she was okay. As she jumped in the water Allure positioned herself protectively in front of Jinta, letting out a loud hiss. She didn't trust these humans. The male had at least looked sincere when he said he wanted to assist them, but so far this one had only stared. There was no guarantee that whatever this human could do would make things worse. *** Tristan saw how the silver mer was having trouble breathing long in the air. The red one wasn't having a problem, and seemed a bit surprised at the other's sudden sinking. The man could tell that the mer had been in pain. But jumping in after to help wasn't ideal. "Chloe! Back now!" he ordered, hoping that she would hear him from underwater, however unlikely it was. If she tried to help she could potentially harm the mers, or get hurt by one. At the moment, however, Tristan was more certain that Jinta was the one in danger.

(Check her earlier post)
Chloe frowned when there was no reaction from any of them, not hearing the man in charge. Even if she had, she wouldn't have cared. Chloe had spent years practicing with marine animals, even once lightly communicating with one many years back. She was certain she could help, and waited patiently for the other mers to accept her help.
~~~
No matter how hard she wished it, Chloe wouldn't leave. Soon, she realized the woman wanted to help, and shook her fist in a simple, Yes. But, seeing as she had no control over the others, turned and said, "She wants to help. Will you let her?"
(Marsh mers have quite a large interaction with humans, due to living near lakes and in reservations etc)
(Stop spamming mah thread with OOC posts and next time just ask me, as I am the creator of this thread. Not Petalfur. I think no, however, since that would mean just about everyone knows sign language, and that's a bit too much. On another note, I might possibly put another character in here, once I've finished his design. TRIPLE CHARACTER FTW) "I know she wants to help," the scarlet mer growled, not moving, eyes still locked on the human. "But she can't do much good here. She's out of her element. Underwater she's clumsy and practically useless." The mer didn't advance on the human, since she was aware of her trying to help. But if she was stupid, she was just going to make it worse. ***
Tristan had run into the lab again and gotten out a stretcher, along with several wet towels. There was a smaller tank back there that had been designed to keep the mers who couldn't breathe oxygen well enough able to breathe while they were examined. He was very glad to have done that, given the current situation. He ran back, sweat starting to form on his brow as he pulled the stretcher again. He tapped the floor, hoping the noise would catch some of the mers attention again.
Coral grunted. "She could at least get her looked at. I think humans are smart enough not to heal someone in water." A tapping brought her attention elsewhere, and she nodded to the man to show she would do what he asked.
***
The other mers seemed to be arguing, so Chloe stepped closer to the fallen mer, assuming her director was retrieving items, and offered a hand to the fallen female. Chloe's goal was to help get the fallen mer to the examination room by lifting her out onto something to carry her into a room to heal her and fix up injuries.
(Was that confusing? It's like 12 pm here)
