I Was Born For This [o]

[Delphine]

The sun was shining bright in the blue sky. The temperature was rising and the air was getting uncomfortably hot. Luckily, Delphine had a thin fur coat and it wasn't as harsh for her. She was proud to be a guardian, but these were the days she wished she could find a shadow and cool of for a couple of hours. But the day was her shift and she didn't regret agreeing to it. Delphine had been a guardian for a whole year and she was loving every minute of it. Ever since she was a kit she wanted to protect her tribe and now she finally could. Delphine sat unmoving by the farmhouse door, as still as a statue. She only had one problem. Her mouth was dry. She hadn't drank water since morning. Delphine was silent, but she really hoped someone would provide the liquid without her having to ask. Which was more impossible than possible.

Looking out of the farmhouse door, Jade saw a cat standing still, really still. Carefully walking over to the cat, Jade asked, "Are you a guardian?" Scared for the reply, Jade shrunk back, just in case the cat looked at her.    

[Delphine]

Only Delphine's eyes shifted to look at Jade. Her body remained vigilant. "Yes, I am a guardian. Are you in need of help?" Her voice was stern, but willing to jump into any kind of situation. This calico seemed familiar to her, but she couldn't pinpoint a name to the body.

Jade looked at her paws, "I was just wondering, when I become 6 moons old, I'm thinking of being a guardian." Jade shifted on her paws. I could learn more from this cat."By the way, my name is Jade That Shines In The Dark. Do you think you could tell me some stuff about being a guardian? But before you tell me, do you need me to get anything for you?"

[Delphine]

Delphine dipped her head. "I am Delphine. A guardian of the day." Her mouth became even more dry at the thought of water and now this cat was offering her a favor. "If you could fetch me some water, I would be immensely grateful." She was embarrassed because she made a flaw, but couldn't look down at her feet. Delphine distracted herself with Jade's first question. "If you wish to be a guardian, then you may. Don't let anyone stop you. I hate to break it to you though, but most cats become hunters. For every one guardian, there is two hunters. It's a tough job." She was very passionate about her job and she was very willing to share with Jade. "Imagine waking up every morning and knowing you are the protector. The guardian of your tribe. If a badger comes, you save the day and chase it out! Guardians are pretty much the heroes of the tribe!" Delphine exclaimed, getting very excited. She realized this and became embarrassed again. "I apologize. Sometimes I get overwhelmed.."

Before turning around to get some water, Jade looked at Delphine. "It's ok, I'll go get the water."
As Jade slowly walked away from Delphine, she gave herself some time to think. I'll go get the water, come back, wait for Delphine to drink it, hear the story then go to sleep, problem solves. Sidestepping around a bush, Jade saw a mossy rock, she stared at it for a heart-beat the padded up to the rock so she was just a mouse-length away. Far enough to collect the moss and not get hurt. 
After collecting the moss, Jade went to a stream and soaked the moss and returned to hear Delphine's story. As Jade carefully put the moss down on the large cat's paws, she stepped back and waited patiently for him to tell her more.

[Delphine]

"Thank you." Delphine lowered her head and lapped up the water from the moss. "Is there anything else you need to know? If not, I must go back to watching for danger." She asked once she finished, her paw running over her mouth to wipe the water off.

Jade sighed, I want to know more, but I should go back to the nursery. "You can go back to your job, I will go back to the nursery and rest," Jade yawned, a sign to show how tired she was, 'I'm pretty tired, I'll ask you more questions tomorrow, I have a lot more, see you later,"
