Solstice strode across the thick grass, a heavy rat dangling in her mouth. It was large, and Solstice's neck was starting to get tired of carrying it, so she set it down on the earth, then stood up and shook herself. She wasn't in a hunting party, just doing some extra hunting. The summer grain had brought abundant prey, and she was determined to catch most of it before winter set in.
The aching in her neck dulled, and Solstice was starting to feel that she was not alone. The fur on her spine rose a little and she heard the grass rustle. Then it stopped.
